really beautiful game! dying felt a little frustrating, especially after evolving since you don't have any debris to protect you, especially if its just a tiny bullet and you're an eldritch space monster. but the tidal waves was really cool and a great idea to add to the game!

I have such mixed feelings about this game... I love the concept, and the feel of slamming down into the Earth and seeing it rupture is awesome. But the difficulty feels very cheap and completely unnecessary. The bullets are tiny and very hard to see, getting hit while transforming feels out of the player's control more often than not, and even with debris, sometimes it all just gets eaten up and suddenly you're super vulnerable with zero margin for error to survive. It's incredibly frustrating when you reach the stage of becoming a super huge, tentacled, Earth-destroying fiend of destruction... and then you get dinged by a tiny bullet and it's game over. That just feels so, so bad, having what's supposed to be incredible power only to be undermined by something that shouldn't perceptibly be even remotely close to your power. The entire game is building up to that point and yet it ends up being the most frustrating part of the entire experience.

I see that "bullet hell" is part of the description, but the screenshots and premise of the game don't give that impression at all. In fact, I'd say the bullet hell aspect of the game detracts heavily from what it makes it so great. Even if the game was a total pushover, who cares? You're an unsettling, planet-busting, otherwordly entity destroying the Earth by slamming into it and gradually growing into a colossal size. It's a super cool concept, and the feel of this game was nailed so perfectly that even if it was mindless rampaging with no challenge whatsoever, it'd still be so incredibly fun.

Hi!! I want to say thank you for your comment, I truly appreciate all the time and effort you put in it and to be succinct, you’re right!! We’ve received a Lot of feedback on the difficulty and it’s something we had trouble with While making the game too (believe it or not, this is the easiest version of the game so far).

I think a couple of us do appreciate the difficulty, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of enjoyment. A lot of players feel frustrated and it’s a testament to the potential that the game has and we’re so very grateful for it. We’ll make sure to not just make the game easier, but actually coherent with the experience of DESTROYING THE EARTH AS A GIANT MONSTER, because it’s a fucking awesome concept

breaking character to tell you good job. honestly, really really enjoyed the art, idea and execution!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so so much!!! <3

Having you dodge from the rockets by attacking is such clever design, well done!!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We did our best to hone the double-use of slamming into the earth so attacks felt more than just a means to grow!

I love the art style and theme. Especially the animations on your character and the waves splashing.

Developer(+1)

thank you!! we definitely have a lot of sprite sheets, some unused. We hope to be able to refine the game further in the next patch and show players the other cool things we have planned :D

This game is really good and polished. It also has a really creative concept.

The look and feel are polished to perfection. The gameplay itself is pretty simple, but I enjoyed playing it -- it's very satisfying. A couple of times I died without being 100% sure what got me, though. Great work overall!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! We're working on a patch to make it a bit clearer and easier to play and see what's going on, so please look forward to it!

Submitted(+6)

Wowww the polish on here is insane. I think I’d like a way to be able to see how much health I have left. Really hard too, but really good!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! We are aiming to patch the game soon with some clearer visual cues and more enjoyable gameplay since it seems our intended difficulty as well, too difficult ^^; But once again, thank you so much!!

awesome art and animations, the main mechanic is cool and thematically works well! it can be wonky to dodge the projectiles, but with some tweaking it could feel really good!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, man! Yeah, we can understand that sentiment, so we're gonna work on patching the game as soon as we can!!

I love the art, great animations! I found the game a little hard, but very fun.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing our game!!

Really addictive and a cool concept, I wish there was more visibility of your health though.

Developer(+1)

Noted!! We're gonna work on making some things more clear and readable in our next update!

Submitted(+6)

This is so cool, love it! It would be the perfect power fantasy but it's so damn difficult xD Great work!

Developer(+2)

UGH we know!! We're gonna be working on a patch to balance the HP and attacks a bit more so players can have a really fun experience being a COSMIC HORROR!!! Thank you so much for playing and the feedback !!

Game is hard because I have skill issue. Not fair mechanics, die to random bullet after upgrading feelsbadman. Cool art and style. Overall pretty fun though :D

Developer(+1)

We're working on a balancing patch to fix all those issues!! Thanks for checking us out though!!

This game was definitely a breath of fresh air, something that you could really just chill out with, calmly sit down and rage with your friends.

Developer

the perfect way to play!! thank you so much for checking us out <3

This game makes me frustrated and makes me want to have fun!

Developer

Best of both worlds!! Thank you so much for playing!!

This game is very beautiful! In sound and in 2D art at all! Congrats!

I just don't get the mechanic. I had a bit of difficult. Maybe more explanation or just a tutorial?

(This game should be very good to play in mobiles too!)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We tried to hone the art and sound on this one <3 As for mechanics, we did add a small tutorial but if you mash through it, it can be missed. We want to make it clearer to players in our next patch. As for mobile, we noticed right after how perfect a mobile-compatible version would be, so we're open to exploring that avenue and adding it as an option. :D

Incredible art direction! Super cool!

Thank you so much for playing!!!

That was clever and charming! The concept and setting is cute, creepy, and engaging, and the gameplay is satisfying. It felt great slamming into the earth and creating chaos.

Playing it was fun; actually winning was unpleasant. I find the difficulty completely inscrutable; I actually downloaded the windows build to make sure I wasn't getting weird web errors.

I rarely ask to be spoon-fed information, but I had no clue how health works. There were several times when I died when I thought I had only been hit twice, making me wonder where I actually lost all that health. I was also never sure how much damage each specific tower actually dealt. I'm not necessarily suggesting a literal health bar, just more specific feedback on damage and health.

Volume settings are appreciated, but the default audio volume is a tiny smidgen loud; later parts sometimes peak above +0.0 dB.

All-in-all, good work!

Developer(+2)

Yes based on other player feedback we are gonna work on balancing the game more for player enjoyment while also trying to maintain the challenge. Visual clarity is one of the main things we're aiming to fix along with projectile speed, damage, and visual pollution. We did originally intend for the monster to shrink in size when hit, but the gameplay became more tedious than we expected, so we often for a "die upon hit route" while using debris as shields. As for volume that's a fix we are doing! Hopefully, we'll be able to get this patch out as soon as gmtk ends! All in all, thank you so much for playing and for the feedback!!

Submitted(+6)

Was very unclear until I saw that you need to eat what rises.
Hitboxes are very strange, random stuff keeps hitting and killing me with no way to dodge.
Sounds are disturbingly good, but can't fully appreciate it cause of gameplay

Developer(+1)

Our sound design team just uploaded the OST to YouTube for all to enjoy if you're interested!  https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLy5W_ZwiAd8N67_Raw_7WNmgSjIMwtn5a  !!
There was a tutorial at the beginning, but after discussing and getting feedback it seems to be easily missable. We're gonna address all these issues and more in a patch after the jam ends. Hopefully, we can balance gameplay to make the game more enjoyable and feel as immersive as possible. Thank you so much for the feedback!!
