One of my favorite games, I'm not joking. There are a lot of similar platformers, but you made your idea super simple, at the same time broke the limits by expanding the scale range to fractals, and you pumped insane amount of pure fun into the game. Screw complex puzzles, I want to become the size of the map and I want to squeeze into tiniest holes, all within seconds! I feel like mechanincs and physics of movement is polished very well, it's somewhat finicky, but that adds a fitting foddian vibe to the game. Visuals are simple but nice, maybe some more polish to make style more consistent would work. I like this game a lot, great job!

executing the shrink-jump feels great

very cool to see secrets in a jam game

i can't help noticing a slight jitter in the player or camera movment. it looks like what i get when my camera have position smoothing enabled but it could be any number of issues

overall 10/10 really made me feel like bob

Developer (1 edit)

It's almost certainly a scaling issue, it could maybe be fixed by making the default size larger, we did have position smoothing on iirc

This is my favorite 2D side-scroller of the game jam.

I have seen a bunch of the 2D side-scroller "get big then get small" gimmicks, but I haven't seen any other game capture the "fractal" angle of it all. It's such a cool feeling going by and seeing an entire little level that you pass by in 0.1 seconds while you're big, just to be fighting through it a bit later when you're small.

I personally think the level design was pretty great, and the visuals were generally quite nice as well.

Overall great entry, well done.

I do appreciate the fact that checkpoint sort of indicate the required scale to see/beat the section of a level.

I also had a thought on how to give a non verbal feedback to the player describing your current size. The pitch of the soundtrack could adjust it’s pitch based on the size. The lower you get, the higher the pitch. The bigger you get, the lower the pitch.

Great fun entry! Well done!

Developer

That was the idea but we ran out of time

It's a cool concept with cool visuals, the level design is pretty solid. The only thing that was missing for me was some personality to the character. If it's gonna be a box with a face, give it some color, or something more interesting that matches the background. Overall, good job!

This is a great paltformer, loved the music and the intro.  I had a great time playing this game.

Developer

Always good to hear!

Really love the concept! I didn't at first how small you can become but it was nice to discover! Music is a bit short so it feel repetitive (because it loops rapidly). but otherwise I loved it!

Submitted(+1)

Simple, and elegant. Good job!

The controls felt responsive, which was a pleasent experiance for having loaded it in a web browser. The volume was a tad loud, but much less so than some of the other games I have tried recently.

I like the idea of scaling yourself to navigate the levels. I also liked the simpler art style with the lighting effects. Gave a very "Thomas Was Alone" vibe. The music didn't quite fit the vibe for me. It made me feel like I should have been rushing, but I wasn't aware of any time constraints.

Regardless, good job! Fun game!

Developer(+1)

The music was intended to speed up or slow down depending on size but we didn't have time to implement that

I really like the changing scale platforming mechanic in this one! My only two critiques were that the music didn't got pretty tiresome quickly, and the controls for growing and shrinking (pressing X and C) didn't seem very intuitive. The visuals were great though, and I could see this one being a fun little platformer if more mechanics got added!

Cool game! Very interesting mechanic; I really dig that. I think this is one of the best platformers involving resizing mechanics in the jam, as you've dug a bit deeper to incorporate the resizing into jumping as well. Also love the idea of having secrets in levels, these are in my opinion the cornerstones of a great game. Nicely done!

Fits the theme well, very fun, good sounds! great art! but just one thing.. the fonttttttt! that was hard to read xD. but the game was very intuitive so i fine without most. very solid! GJ! :)

Developer(+1)

Godot does not like smaller font but I'll see if there's a better way of doing it

My game is also made in godot it is possible, but ye the in my last game it was also a problem for me

Nice game, let's start from the things that I enjoyed the most: first and foremost, the level design. You got pretty creative and managed to always keep the game interesting, which is not an easy thing to do! Then the mechanic of changing size to fit through gaps is pretty cool (and also makes level look cool) and the music was amazing!
Now, here's instead a list of some small things that I would change to improve the game:

- explaining keybinds in game: even though the controls are listed in the itch page, it would be nice to have them in game so I don't have to tab out

- can't see when jumping while being very tiny: to solve this problem I would either reduce the jump height when you're being small or zoom out the camera while jumping

- distracting background: a pretty niche thing tbh, but for the background you probably want to use more dark/desaturated colors, and use vibrant colors only for the level layout. I suggest this article about Celeste Tilesets, it was an eye opener for me: https://aran.ink/posts/celeste-tilesets

Overall absolutely solid game, keep making games dude!

Thanks for the feedback, really helpful advice! All stuff I will try and implement in a later build of the game with the help of my friend

This is my 3rd 15/15 game. The only not so good thing is the tutorial at the start. Some better UX will make the game more easy to understand at the start.

Absolutely amazing game

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, yeah the tutorial could have been a lot better

Best of the grow/shrink self puzzle games I have seen so far. It was interesting seeing what looked like a small, simple room and then noticing all the tiny obstacles your going to have to go through. The lighting effects were great too.

Na man i didn't see bob but i did see and play an incredible game

Nice, saw alot of content here, loved the level variety and all the unique layouts, the music was great, and I really liked the character controller it was really sooth to use, nice job

Simple concept but really really fun. The difficulty is perfectly balanced, not too hard not too easy.
It seems that Bob's lore is bigger then I expected.
