Nice tiny game with a story! Quite nice with the levels becoming increasingly challenging.

The ship minigame could be more difficult, but it was fun anyway!

Developer

Thanks for giving it a shot :)

It really reminded me of Super Mario Land and its ilk. It was also really nice to go through the whole game, with a good ending. Nice job!

Developer

Dr Dre????? Is that you????? Glad you liked it :)

I agree, one must have shanties to sail! Fun take on the theme and lots of area variety for a jam. Nice work!

this game reminded me a bit of a great game called Minit. Movement could be improved, but that's already a solid start. Good background music choice as well

Developer

I love Minit! Thanks for playing :)

Love the cheeky name, but damn, you have to hit z to start, and it doesn't tell you to do that anywhere? That's rough, you might want to put it in the description at least, and as close to the top as possible. I tried two different browsers before figuring it out.

Other than that it's a bit of a mixed bag, love the artstyle, but not a huge fan of the music, great that you've implemented checkpoints, but those slippery platforms could use some sea salt on top. That said, you've got all that, two different movement styles, and cutscenes, and that's a lot of work in 96 hours.

Thanks for checking it out, I will definitely be adding "press z" to the description lol

Nice little game. Very impressive for a first game jam. I'm very glad I took a little time to reach the end.

GG !

Thank you!

Loved the retro look! It looks amazing and well done, and the story makes it so endearing!

Developer

Thanks! You made my morning :)

This was very fun and cute. I like the gameboy graphics and the little world you've build there!

I thoroughly enjoyed playing through your game! the art and music were both very pleasing, huge congratulations on finishing your first game jam! I really appreciated the regular respawn points, my only constructive feedback would be that the player felt very slidey and I think the friction could have been higher :)

Developer

Thanks for checking it out! Hoping it's not my last game jam lol

I forgot that GB Studio existed so it was super cool to see a project using it!
I loove what you did visually! Its pretty authentic to the Game Boy, but also not quite? I'm not sure how to describe it? I guess its kinda like an enhanced sgb game? Well regardless, I really enjoyed the visuals :)
Gameplay-wise its pretty basic but still enough (would've been nice to see some more complex levels tho)
Theme-wise I think its a bit of a stretch but I'll let you off because I liked the pun ;)

Developer

Heck yeah, pun crew ;)

Really nice art style and fun game! The first time I played I was able to walk straight off the dock without doing any of the caves and still beat the game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking it out! Yeah, thematically I liked the idea of him being able to leave whenever he wanted (and that people could check out all the levels even if they got stuck).

The game appears to just be stuck on the intro screen showing your website. I tried in both Chrome and Firefox.

Developer

Interesting, did you try hitting Z? It runs fine on my end on Firefox and Chrome.

I finally got to relive my childhood of playing Disney Adventures in the Magic Kingdom for NES mixed with Super Mario Bros 2 combined with other various Gameboy games!

I really loved the style of this game, it felt like a real Game Boy color one!

I enjoyed this game so much! It is incredibly cohesive--the art, story, and sound all blended together to create a simple but unignorable atmosphere. The ending was a pretty fun twist as well. One thing I would suggest would be about keybinds--the [J] control was hard to infer and a prompt in-game would have been helpful. Apart from that, though, awesome job!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad you dug it.
