An interesting little game!

With a little more polish on the trick game and virus pong, this would be a tidy game with a great loop!

Not my stile, but still intersting! :-)

Submitted(+2)

same thing! the game art's really nice too

Submitted(+3)

Not a genre of game I enjoy but have to say this was an interesting game to play and the pixel art is incredible. The team have done very well.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for giving it a try despite a dislike for the genre ! I don't even know myself what genre it is. Turn-based action strategy ? How would you call it ?

(+2)

Really nice game. As a very passionate board player, I could only notice and enjoy the inspirations. Seeing others people comments, I think they didn't like how wordy the tutorial was which is not recommended in video games (unlike the many pages you can get opening a brand new board game). People only want to read and go more in depth with the mechanics when they already got to see what was fun in the game. Maybe a tutorial run even if it is very hand holdy could be a nice addition : a very small map sprinkled with informations in bubbles ( just like your screenshots ) with first, the type of tiles you encounter, then with the different ressources you collect and how they affect your deck, and finally a practice run in the village to understand the card game.

But the art definitely sells it and keeps you hooked on trying out for yourself and see what happens. I wish there were sound design and music building the intensity and setting the exploration mood even better. Keep it going !!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and for your feedback !

Totally agree with what you said. Reading long tutorial texts is not very appealing in a video game. We have a lot of ideas to improve the game, and the tutorial is definitely something that need to be improved.

We plan on making some kind of tutorial run like you said. Where basically the player would start with a very simple game with very few mechanics to help understand the basics. And as he progress, more and more game elements will be introduced (fog of war, new tiles, new resources/card type, virus card, virus game, etc...). And some much needed quality of life improvements in addition.

Hope you can give our game another try when a new version will drop ! :D

I appreciate the effort put into this.

Nice and short card game with great art.

Interesting gameplay, but it often felt too random regarding the cards I have and the enemy ai

Not too sure what part is built to scale here though. Is it the deck size?

Edit: I didn't look at the description

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for playing!

I think all of your ideas are true. There's a little too much randomness in the card-drop. We've already corrected this in our "what next"-plan. I'll definitely send you a message after the rating period to show you how we corrected these small balance issues when the new version is uploaded.

So glad you tried the game and left a comment!

As a board game designer myself, I really appreciated seeing a clever take on a card game.
Tying a map exploration with survival elements to a trick taking game that hides inside an arcade minigame is brilliant.
I'm definitely interested in playing your future games. ;)

Developer(+1)

Hey, I'm a board game creator myself and I'm super, super, glad to see your comment. Seeing that someone likes the "depth" of our game is very satisfying.

We plan to make other game jams with the same team. We know each other for years and have a real advantage to communicate as a team.

+ the motivating factor of our talented artist is real !

Great! I'll look forward to your future games!

Awesome art and gameplay

Developer

Many thanks !

The art look really good and u got greate game loop

Developer

It will be even better in the next update, after the rating period. I'll keep you posted!

Submitted(+2)

The art is amazing, one of the bests I saw until now.
The card game is really cool and well thought for a game jam.
I felt that the brick-break moment when we are infected were way too fast, and I couldn't even see what was coming.
Since I liked the game a lot, I wish we had a limit of movements to explore, or a more intense resource consumption. I am pretty sure you all thought about it as well, it was just a matter of time. Any way, great entry, congrats!

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for you smart comment and ideas !

Yeah, when the first comments arrived, we realised the balance was imperfect. But that's already solved for our next version, which we will publish after the rating period.

Should I send you a message when the new version is there ?

Have a nice day !

For sure, I would love to play a new version =)

Interesting cad game, simple and good mechanics, well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks ! It's probably my best game so far and I'm so glad to read that other people like it.

Thanks for playing !

Submitted(+2)

I would lIke to say that the game should be included in the top 100 games because of its visuals and the way it sticks to the theme, its just amazing

Be sure to check mine :>

Developer

That, of course, is our biggest dream ! If we can be in the 100 or even appear for 1 second on the post-jam video that Marc will prepare, that would be an incredible achievement.

I'll check your game when I'm back from work, around 8pm (Brussels).

Your comment is heartwarming !

Beautiful aesthetics. The virus part gives the game some very cool vibe. Wish to see what else can a player do with virus.

Developer

Thank you so much! 😄 We definitely had more planned for the virus part but time ran out too fast!

Submitted(+2)

Really cool game! The virus part did feel a big weirdly tacked on for the sake of the theme, but it was still fun!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your comment! At first we wanted to make a lot of mini-games variations for the virus infection, but we sadly didn't have the time to do so :) Our intent was to have very distinct gameplay between each scale
Glad you enjoyed the game!

Submitted(+2)

Gorgeous pixel art. I'm usually not that into trick taking games but I liked it here.

Developer(+1)

Yeah ! Happy to hear that ! I'm so glad you gave us a moment to test our game !

Submitted(+1)

Interesting take. I thought I understood the card game, but I don't think I quite got it actually haha. Still, it's well done and the art is neat. I thought there would be a continuous thing of going from one island to the next and keeping your resources from a previous island, but it was nice anyways. I don't think the virus thing had quite a big impact as I thought it would

Developer

The virus thing, if not taken seriously, can impact your deck. Especially in the early stages of the run. It will add useless cards to your deck and make you lose a lot of resources in the negotiation phase.

Thanks for playing and leaving a comment, glad you found the game interesting ! If you need more explanations, ask !

Pro tips for the trick-taking card game ;)

  • if the first card being played by a opponent has a higher value than any of yours of the same type, play your lowest value card of any type, as you want to loose as little resources as possible.
  • Keep track of the cards being played by your opponents. Any cards in game exist only once, if they're being played, you know you're not gonna see them again
  • the more resources you have before starting the card game, the more chances you are to have good cards in your hands
  • Have some luck!

great concept and terrific graphics. Loved it.

Developer(+1)

I have no idea how our artist nailed it so well. He's talented but he never ceases to surprise us !

Submitted(+2)

Amazing graphics! I love the style. I could not understand how to play though

Developer

Appreciate the comment ! It might not be the most intuitive game but it's not that hard. So make sure to read the tutorials before each different phase of the game. You can reset them in the starting menu, or/and also look at screenshots on the game page. (But we'll definitely makes some QOL updates once the Jam is fully over :p)

Hope this can help and hope you'll give it another shot !

Submitted(+2)

I got the flu :(
I think the theme is a stretch but I still enjoyed the game!

Developer

Make sure to bring some tissues next time

The theme is not very obvious but it's there :p . Tanks for playing !
