It's really good but I wish I had more lives before a game over and an alternative higher-contrast colour scheme might help. Generally speaking I like the retro style, I just wonder if it could be easier to know what's going on with a little more detail, like 2x the pixel resolution might still look retro enough. Overall very cool game jam game with a fun gameplay loop.

A bit confusing at the start, but overall a fun arcade title

Developer

Thanks!  :D

Interesting game. I had fun playing it. My only negative feedback is that I think the colour scheme makes everything blend together a little? maybe a bit more contrast would help

Developer(+1)

I fully agree! I am working on this more and am adding another color that should help contrast! Thanks!

Simple concept executed well. I do wish for a 3 live mode like you suggested, but that's no biggie. I like the pixel art aswell. Nicely done :)

thanks!

One of the more unique interpretations of the theme. I loved the presentation as well.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

nice

Developer(+1)

Thanks! :)

I like the game visuals !

Developer(+2)

Thanks! It was hard with only 7 colors to work with haha

Cute and fun game! Setting several chances for miss before game over might give players more chances to practice.

Developer

Im going to have two modes after the Jam, easy (3 lives) and challenge(1 life)!

Super cute art!!

Developer

Thank you! I focused on the art a lot this jam lol

Submitted(+1)

Fun mini game! Love that cute pixel art. Tho the game is a little bit diffcult, my best score is like 9. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I am tweaking the difficulty for after the jam to be a bit easier!

Submitted(+1)

Really well polished, and cute, but, as you've mentioned, the difficulty does ramp up a bit too steeply.

Developer

I believe I have it sorted now. The keys increase every 2 rounds, longer time limit for the fishing phase, and instead of real-time reading the keys, I have made a key queue so no false fails! Thanks for playing!

Very cute art style and sound! Maybe this is just me, but I had a bit of trouble distinguishing the different arrows as fast as I would have liked when things got quicker. Maybe it would be useful for each type of arrow to have a more distinct style (colors? shapes? maybe just draw the arrow shape and not the square frame?), which could make the player be faster and play longer. Great game!

Developer

Not the first suggestion for this, I am going to update it after the Jam and this will be in my first Release. Thank you for the good feedback and playing the game!

Submitted(+1)

whoa this was very fast paced for me. The colors were cool, polished. The sound was responsive. I liked it, congrats on a solid entry!

Developer

Thanks! I think I made it scale too fast lol, I am already working on updatesso it will be better in the next update :D

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely amazing game, i love the style of the art and the pallet used, it really gives it a retro feel and the mechanics of the game are super well polished.

Also the sound design is probably some of the best in the jam I've seen so far!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, this comment means a lot! <3

I used the same SFX (jsfxr) generator as a lot of the other games but I am glad I generated good ones! The intro jingle and game over jingle I made in BeepBox (no idea what I was doing but it turned out well lol)

Submitted(+1)

Love the art style! Very polished and cute. The gameplay is fun as well. It ramps up in difficulty pretty quickly, so I made it only up to 23. Congrats!

Developer(+1)

it was not supposed to scale this quick, made a last minute change to the timer on the fishing phase and it was too quick haha. Thanks for playing and leaving a comment!

Nice game, the graphics give off those old-school pokemon vibes! With a bit more diversity in controls (like different mini-games for different types of catch) and some more sound-effects this could go in the direction of Papers Please!

Developer

Yes! I plan on expanding this with more mini games and possibly a speed run mode after the jam!

Submitted(+1)

This was surprisingly addictive! I really wanted a high score! Nice work!

Developer

Thanks! There is definitely some balancing to do to scale the difficulty better so that hiscores feel better too lol

Nicely done!I think just a couple minor tweaks would make this play better:

  • Add keyboard support for the main menu and/or a way to quick-restart the game, because the jump between keyboard <-> mouse feels a bit awkward
  • Maybe as an optional feature, find a way to visually distinguish the arrow keys a bit more - with the very limited color palette and low resolution, it's really easy to misread the keys when they shift over. Maybe they could have separate background patterns, or shift over in a more animated way so your eyes can track them better?

Regardless, it was fun!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I had planned for different sound queues and animation for the keys but ran out of time. All great ideas, no idea how I missed keyboard support for the other pages lol

If there had been a game like this when I was a kid, I would have played it for hours.

Developer

I definitely played something similar on my gameboy advanced! I plan to expand this after the Jam because my childhood self would have loved it haha

Submitted(+1)

I think this might be the first game I've played that's a fish based interpretation! I love the 1 bit game boy graphics and this feels like it would be at home on one of those little game&watch knock offs from the 90's early 2000's

Developer(+1)

Oh for sure! I loved playing with those when I was a kid. I also love fishing so seeing scales made me immediately thought of fish haha. Thanks for playing and commenting! :D
