Nice game, the graphics give off those old-school pokemon vibes! With a bit more diversity in controls (like different mini-games for different types of catch) and some more sound-effects this could go in the direction of Papers Please!

Developer

Yes! I plan on expanding this with more mini games and possibly a speed run mode after the jam!

Submitted(+1)

This was surprisingly addictive! I really wanted a high score! Nice work!

Developer

Thanks! There is definitely some balancing to do to scale the difficulty better so that hiscores feel better too lol

Submitted

Nicely done!I think just a couple minor tweaks would make this play better:

  • Add keyboard support for the main menu and/or a way to quick-restart the game, because the jump between keyboard <-> mouse feels a bit awkward
  • Maybe as an optional feature, find a way to visually distinguish the arrow keys a bit more - with the very limited color palette and low resolution, it's really easy to misread the keys when they shift over. Maybe they could have separate background patterns, or shift over in a more animated way so your eyes can track them better?

Regardless, it was fun!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I had planned for different sound queues and animation for the keys but ran out of time. All great ideas, no idea how I missed keyboard support for the other pages lol

If there had been a game like this when I was a kid, I would have played it for hours.

Developer

I definitely played something similar on my gameboy advanced! I plan to expand this after the Jam because my childhood self would have loved it haha

Submitted(+1)

I think this might be the first game I've played that's a fish based interpretation! I love the 1 bit game boy graphics and this feels like it would be at home on one of those little game&watch knock offs from the 90's early 2000's

Developer(+1)

Oh for sure! I loved playing with those when I was a kid. I also love fishing so seeing scales made me immediately thought of fish haha. Thanks for playing and commenting! :D

Submitted(+1)

I love the style! What a nice pocket game. Its would be very nice on mobile xD

Developer

I am thinking of expanding it to mobile and maybe Switch if I can manage it lol!

Submitted(+1)

i love the color palette! the font is a bit hard to read, especially in the tutorial, so maybe something a little more legible could have helped. in general, though, i really enjoy this type of game! great work!

Developer

Yeah, the "How to play" section was done at 4am on Monday morning and not the best decision was made for the colors! Thanks for playing and leaving a comment!

Submitted(+1)

yeah, we all do the best we can for a game jam, and sometimes the tutorial has to be sacrificed to make a better game ¯\_(ツ)_/

Submitted(+1)

I always suck at these games, but nicely done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I'm honestly not the best either but practice makes perfect XD

Submitted(+1)

Very fun game kind of like rhythm heaven if it was for the original gameboy, and without the rhythm part

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I can see that! I have it under the Rhythm genre because I really don't know what else to call it LOL

Nice snappy handheld gameplay! Obviously this game draws inspiration from WarioWare, but once I figured out that the motions in the clean up phase depended on what you caught in the fishing phase it actually reminded me of the tagging minigame in Jet Set Radio. The cool thing about that minigame that could be applied here is that you could actually input before the icons showed up to complete it even faster, good way to reward players who are paying attention.

Developer

Exactly! That is mostly why the cleaning phase does not have a time limit, so that those who remember the motions can blaze past it. I did add an input cooldown at first but it just felt awful and like it ate actions lol.

I had actually forgotten about JSR's spray minigame, man I need to play that game again! XD

very cool game, I love the artstyle

Developer

Thanks! I actually started with most of the art and made the game around it lol

Submitted

It's simple but well made! The art and sounds are nicely done. It's nice to only  have arrow keys and not the others one so it's less confusing, good job.

Developer

Thanks! I was going to bind "wasd" and controller d-pad so you could use those as well but ran out of time.

Submitted(+1)

I greatly appreciated the arrow key input system since I am currently away from my mouse.  Overall I thought it was really charming reaction test, nice job!

Developer

I'm glad the arrow keys were a good decision! I was going to make it mouse controlled but the arrows just felt better ☺️

Highscore of 14... skill isue

Developer

It ramps up pretty quickly LOL

Thanks for playing!

I like the art style a lot, and the minigames are fun!

Developer

Thank you!

I found arrow keys on my keyboard because of this game!
Nicely styled , cool animations and sfx. Fun and addictive!
Thank you for your game!

Developer

Thanks for playing! 😁

Helldivers 2's strategems really prepared me for the arrow inputs in this game.  Great consistent artstyle, pixel animations, and sound effects - very fun.  Nicely done!

Developer

I didn't really plan for it to similar but noticed it when I got it working well lol. Not that it was a bad thing haha

Love the wario-ware style. Simple but enjoyable.

Developer

thanks for playing

Submitted(+1)

Cute but challenging! Took me a few tries to get a good run. Really well done!

Developer

Thank you! Your game was extremely well done! <3

Submitted(+1)

Really cool! Reminds me of warioware a bit

Developer

That was the base inspiration! I really wanted to make something fast and fun! Thanks for playing and leaving a comment <3
