How does your game fit the theme?
Its your classic Reversi, but built to a GRAND scale. ... Meaning bigger pieces. As big as we could get away with.

I enjoyed the chill vibe of the music and visuals. Interesting out players could basically skip ahead small moves by putting down a bigger disc.
The big discs do add some extra flexibility that way. :-)
Thanks for playing!
Super relaxing game, and despite never having played the original format before playing this game I was able to pick up the GRAND version fairly quickly. Everything feels super polished - the animations, the sound effects, the character sprites, and the score UI. Great entry. Enjoyed it a lot. :D
Thank you for the very kind words !
fun game idea! works very well! good job on this one :)
Thanks for playing!
Feels super polished! I might recommend putting The Grand at the top of the main menu since that's the one that has a lot of unique and fun new mechanics! Great job expanding a classic <3
Thanks for playing, and that good suggestion.
What would you say if I made "The Grand" just a bigger button ? That would also fit the theme more, as a bonus. And it would keep the games in order of progression.
Coming from more of a UX perspective, we want to prioritize the most important action for our players from top to bottom. Since you've got such a cool new twist, we should have players engage with it asap in my opinion! But if you want to do a sense of progression, how you have it now isn't bad, it just runs the risk of players only trying one game mode. Hope that helps <3
Thanks, it does! :-)
A nice twist on classic reversi, the visuals and audio feel very nice and polished as well. Nice work on this game!
Thank you!
Startegy games aren't my thing so i can't judge the gamepley very well, i can however judge the audio and visuals, which are superb.
Also i wonder, how does the ai work, is it like chess ais where you create a tree of all possible moves?
Disclaimer: the "AI" was written by my friend Jan, not me, and I haven't dug into that part of the code. I do know there is no deep search of all possible moves several steps in the future. Instead, we were given some basic rules by a professional player (a Belgian Champion in Othello), which Jan implemented, and then optimized. Those rules just look at the current board state, and no more. The different difficulty levels just apply more of these rules, making the AI player smarter.
Indeed. At this moment he doesn't look forward. Only some basic tips you should give to a player. So not using the calculation power of the pc.
I was thinking about the tree that you mentioned. That would actually be easier (less possibilities than chess and max 60 moves). But I was afraid that the game would be barely unplayable.
I have the plan to extend the AI with just that
Damn this made me feel dumb… but so does regular reversi so what was i expecting ? Superb visuals and incredibly smooth gameplay experience! The big pieces broke my brain trying to understand the diagonal interactions. Great game !
Thank you so much for the very kind words !
That's a really good game! Everything is really smooth and polished. Really enjoyed the overall atmosphere. Huge well done!
Thanks for the kind words!
I didn't know that reversi was so much fun. Nice implementation!
Thanks !
That was a fun twist on the game! Very polished, great job!
Thanks for playing!
Haha, a Reversi game that’s twice the size is so much fun! I used to play a lot of Reversi as a kid, so I cleared it quickly. Thanks for the big laughs! And the design quality is outstanding!
Reversi was a game I played a lot as a kid too. So this was both a trip down memory lane, as well as a fun challenge. :-)
The sheer size made me laugh! Getting flipped over from all directions added an extra thrill compared to regular pieces. It was a lot of fun!
Glad you had a good time !
Im gonna be honest, this game confuses the heck out of me... but it's really fun and really polished so nice work!
Thanks for your honesty :-D
It's sick to see a twist on a classic board game like this and I think you found a creative way to incorporate the scale alongside a new mechanic. It's also just very satisfying to play the big disks, although I'm not sure if they're strategically the best play? But I kinda suck at this so I have no idea haha. Good submission!
Thanks for playing! The big disks... they're a give and take, aren't they ? :-) They can help you take a corner more quickly, but then that corner is not as safe as with the regular disks, as the big piece can still be flipped and so you might lose the corner...
Really polished game, and a simple but cool twist on Reversi.
Thanks for the kind words !
Very stylish, and exactly the right cosy ambience for a chill board game. I’m getting obliterated by the AI, but I did manage to win once :D While the larger blocks are interesting and fit the theme somewhat, I am unsure what dimensions they add to the game beyond being easier to take from all sides. Great entry!
The AI is rough. I can beat it at medium now and again, but at the higher levels... oooph. :-)
We weren't quite sure whether the bigger pieces would add to or subtract from the game. But it's interesting to try out, no ? I actually do feel they give an interesting twist, as they add an extra choice to consider, and bring pros and cons with them.
Anyway, thanks for giving oyr game a chance. And sooo glad you enjoyed the atmosphere we went for!
I didn’t mean to sound dismissive of the scaled piece mechanic - it does definitely add to the game, as it markedly changes the feel of how the game plays, just I personally started to struggle more, as the AI is just that good - and I’m a pretty lousy Reversi player it seems :-)
No worries, we took it as constructive criticism. You had the same questions we still have: do the bigger pieces add anything real to the game, or not, beyond being bigger ? :-)
Never played reversi so this was a pretty cool twist for a first time
Thanks for playing!
overrall , pretty interesting game ! , i have never played it and i didn't know but I WON
Well done !
Apparently this is well known board game, but the execution and artstyle is really well done. The "built to scale" theme is also apparent, though Im not quite the fan of it. But great nontheless.
Thanks for the kind words! We had a hard time with the theme. When one of us suggested the idea of Grand Reversi to a professional Othello player he was really interested, and so we decided to just go for it. :-)
Never heard of the orignal but I very much enjoyed this and it was explained nicely.
Thanks for playing !
