great work, its a really fun concept. i love games with ever expanding army's, reading the comments below i might need to check out Overlord in that case. then there's getting progressively more naked as i get hit (built in nude mod), that's pretty sweet.
id love if it had controller support, i assume it was keyboard only.
Great game, it remind me of the game Overlord. It’s metal af too.
I was just a bit surprised by the end boss, he lasted 3s and then I won. Some time I was charging a pig/a building and half of my recruit would far away. You also can have your camera inside the moutain, which can be disorienting.
Overlord was the main inspiration actually! Yeah the boss is a bit random due to the AI I think. On rare occasions your pigs will basically all focus Boarminius instead of choosing a few different targets.
Glad you enjoyed and played through the end :) Thanks for playing.
Great AI and controls, overall great game. Love the concept :))
Thanks! Some people had some trouble with the controls but glad you didn’t.
Nice! A very complete game for the jam. :D
I wasn't sure when pressing 'E' to recruit the defeated enemies worked, if I had to position me correctly in front of them or was any other thing.
Thanks for playing! Recruiting does not have a cooldown or cost anything, it’s just the hitbox that was hard to hit then. You don’t have to be in front either. I know the game runs a bit poorly on some machines too, that could make it harder.
Cool game!
Overall cool game concept!
I don't get to control well as they are not very responsive (maybe pigs are just not very obedient?).
Understandable that the control is a bit heavy to move around because they are fat XD
The music and sound effects suit the theme well.
User interface even though is immersed but some of the texts are a bit difficult to read.
Yeah the pigs AI and orders was quite a challenge to implement correctly. Basically they automatically aggro near enemies or raid nearby huts, you can recall them with right click or send them to a target location. But the automatic AI takes care of the combat.
I think some of the impression has to do with the bad feedback on hitting or getting hit too.
Thanks for playing!
Wow, what a cool game! I managed to get a pretty strong army after recruiting most of my enemies. I liked the fact that you must recruit within a certain time period, that made it nice and challenging. Also love the soundtrack, it fits nicely with the gameplay. And great job on the graphics and animations!
We wanted to make the “recruit or not” choice harder but with the transmutation wildcard we didn’t have time to come up with an easy alternative.
Thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed the game and the music!
Awesome 3d game! Very impressive for the time limit. I really liked the music and it was really funny when the player takes enough damage to lose their armor!
I thought it was fun commanding the army. I do think it would be nice to have a more clear indication of how much gold I currently have and how much my current costs are, that would make it a bit easier to determine if I should convert more pigs or make due with what I currently have.
All in all though, a very fun and impressive game! I felt like a villain tearing down those poor pigs huts! (They should have made their houses out of brick!)
I totally missed the opportunity for the brick houses you are right haha. Since the upkeep cost is per pig having the cost display on the banner wouldn't have made sense since they each have their own timer. What I would have liked to have added is a sound effect, and a -1 above pigs when the upkeep cost ticks, this would make things a little more clear.
huh I hadn’t made the comparison with the three little pigs tale :D
Yeah the immersive UI wildcard made it challenging to give good visibility to the currency system.
Thanks for trying it out!
Great game! I've got two small gripes though: it's really hard sometimes to fight one of the barbarian pigs, they don't really care and just walk away, intent on their own target. They won't stay put for a second, damn them! :) Another is that camera becomes wild and out of control inside huts.
You got me, you caught the only major bug I am aware of in this game. Sometime a boar will break and kind of wander like that. Fortunately the bug is not game breaking as if you ignore it your pigs will eventually KO the bugged boars.
ha I wasn’t even aware of this bug. Good catch. Thanks for playing!
nice and fun game.
Thanks for trying it out :)
Great 3D game. Cute graphics and very fun to play
Thanks for playing and the kind words!
Really fun!! :D I loved controlling a huge army of pigs and swarming the enemy. A couple of times I had some serious framerate drops, but it didn't ruin the game for me, it cleared up once the combat calmed down. The controls seemed intuitive and fun, and I really really really liked the audio! Definitely 5/5 for the adaptive music, that was great!
Awesome submission! :D Congratz!
Hello, I built the navigation system for War Pigs. I am truly sorry about the frame rate drops. Unfortunately the 3dNavigation system in Godot 3.3 is very bare bones, and I was limited in time to better optimize my use of it. I thought of limiting the number of pigs more heavily, but decided that detracted too much from the fun of recruiting a large army. On the plus side there are major reworks to this system due for Godot 4.0, hopefully that addresses some of the performance issues we ran into.
Thanks for playing and glad you noticed the adaptive music :) It was a bit of a headache and stressful to implement and debug it the day just before the deadline.
That was so much fun!!! Love the music and audio - perfect match for the game. I really enjoyed having the option to recruit lots of piggies and have them do all the work. The piggy losing armour made me laugh :D very clever game, well done. Graphics were great, game was super fun, the controls were spot on.
Thanks for playing!
Glad you liked my music :) Don’t know if you noticed that some layers fade in or out depending on how many pigs you have (the lead guitar and strings for the march track, and the synth and lead guitar for the combat track).
The pig booty does have its effects 😏
Awesome games guys. I love the low poly style and graphics. And I realized something while playing this game. Watching pigs fight each other is awesome. Well dome guys
Thanks for playing! Glad you found it fun
Honestly did not expect it to be so fun and addictive at first glance. It was really fun to command a huge battalion of pigs and so satisfying when they all just lined up so neatly. Great game!
Glad you found it fun! Maybe the game page could be improved, he visuals aren’t super impressive too maybe that could make it more attractive.
Anyway thanks for playing :)
That was really funny. Reminded me a bit of the dungeon keeper series, where you had the ability to play in ego perspective. But you also added another tactic component on top, which is really cool. The management of the pigs works flawless, so good job on that! :)
A better damage and hit feedback (e.g. screenshake, enemy throwback, more animations) would have been cool. Most of the time I was unsure if I do any damage at all and the fights felt a bit dull.
Nevertheless it made a lot of fun to play this game! Great work! :)
Yeah Oeslian was inspired by Overlord, which is a game well tied to the jam’s theme. You should checkout the “Dungeons” series which is a somewhat modern Dungeon Keepers.
We should have focused a bit more on the hit feedback, have a small animation, maybe a grunt sound (at least for the leader), some metal spark VFX.
Thanks for trying it out :)
Amazing what you did in a weeks time! Really fun to play as Pig Centurio :D
Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it :)
I was also impressed how big the game is. Having two programmers helped a lot. Since I also know how to program, I didn’t need a lot of help to integrate audio and implement the dynamic layers and track switching.
Oeslian was also the 3d artist so definitely props to him.
Really funny gameplay. Had a blast playing the game. Really liked the sounds and music. Was fighting as a naked pig one time which cracked me up.
The feedback of getting hitted or hitting is a bit strange and I just went in and pressed my sapcebar on every barbarian pig I could find. Sometimes had big frame drops when too many pigs were fighting.
Overall it was really fun!
Yeah the leader loses a part of his armor when hit, it’s the way of showing a health bar without UI for the wildcard. When you’re naked it means you’ll die at the next hit. Also pig booty😏
I agree there isn’t enough feedback on hits/getting hit. I forgot to add a specific sound for the leader like a pig grunt. The lead programmer was also the 3d artist so he didn’t have time to do more animations as well.
For the frame drops we suspect the navigation to be the problem when there are too many pigs. Multithreading would help, also Godot 4.0 brings fancy Navigation stuff like pathing around moving objects.
Thanks for playing!
I love this game! And instead of thinking too much about the theme "You aren't the the hero" You did the exact opposite and became the villain, the shop is very simple but gets the job done. I love the pig models too and how you could change the key binds to your likening. This game is awesome!
Thanks for playing! Glad the rebindable hotkeys helped. I’ll give the code to the GWJ accessibility repository as well as the volume sliders.
