I got lost numerous times on the tutorial. For some reason my natural inclination of which direction to go was rarely where the next instruction was. Because of how long it took me to complete the tutorial (ashamed), I didn’t get to play the actual game much, and ran into some green guys that killed me instantly. But very polished, and I may come back to it. I liked that I could whip enemies with the package I’m transporting!

Developer(+1)

I think I'll make the asteroid corridor tighter still in the final build because I noticed that seems to happen for some people once they fly through the asteroids. Thanks for the feedback! We'll upload a build with some bugfixes after the rating is done so if you decide to come back to it it might be nice to wait for then ^^

Great entry! Feels really polished, graphics and sound are very nice :) I’d prefer using the cursor to aim, but still managed to deliver some packages. It get really hard really quick

Submitted(+2)

Oo really nice, although i got a bit annoyed with the controls...

The game was really solid, maybe a bit too hard.

Developer

Hey TimeSauce, thanks for playing the game! Could you elaborate on what annoyed you about the controls

Submitted(+1)

Hey nice game! And really hard hahaha. Or at least I didn't manage to deliver a single package, I was always killed before reaching the destination. Nice art style and superb music. Congrats!

PS: Do you mind telling me which joint node you used to join the ship and the package together?

Developer(+1)

Hey! Thanks for playing the game... Delivering the first package shouldn't be a problem but I can't fault you for any other ones :D

I used the https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/classes/class_dampedspringjoint2d.html, I like the final result but I think I will add some custom logic to it because I found it rather hard to control.

Submitted(+3)

Cool game! The situational music is underrated. Really solid experience and I love the tutorial. Great work all around

Submitted(+3)

Loved the art and music. Game is though, specially the green enemies that just ram you continuously. The music getting intense during a battle was a nice touch. Congratulations.

Submitted(+2)

Very well made game. Nice idea, great execution. The difficulty curve hits like a truck when you're just strolling around oblivious to the universe around you but that's fine I think. If I had to reach for a critique, the controls are a little confusing - when not accelerating you retain velocity but you lose it quickly when you accelerate in a 90 degress direction so it's getting used to. Great job!

Submitted(+2)

This was such a cool experience. Amazing pixel graphics.

It was a bit hard at times, but not flying in straight lines helped a lot.

It continues to amaze me what people manage to put out in a week. Congratulations!

Submitted(+2)

First of, really impressive work for this short time. I think I agree with the others, the game looks and sounds absolutely amazing, but man, is it hard. I really can imagine this as a full game. With better learning crurve, balancing or maybe even an easy option (for people bad at action games like me). I would love to explore this world in a bit more relaxed pace :D

Submitted(+2)

Superb spritework and real nice to have music variation between the combat/non combat moments, i like the overall idea and having the controls be more physics based/asteroids like seems fitting for space.

But damn ! That difficulty curve is insane :o

I could never reach station 2 either by trying to fight or by making a run for it :(

I think this needs some rebalancing as is, now with that said still the game has qualities like mentioned with the graphics and music and some of the little touches like enemies that can blow themselves up trying to follow you through asteroids etc... plus gotta praise the full on options menu.

Solid core concept, just too bad about the difficulty, other than that still the effort and care shows :)

Developer(+1)

Really appreciate the feedback, Wolf. Thanks a ton.

In a nutshell; I was incharge of the balancing and well.. Ever game I play is always set to the highest or second highest difficulty lol. I play FPS games with handguns and anti-meta arms.. I- am a terrible judge of difficulty I've realized. Sorry about that. I don't imagine most people will reach the other ships in game. But they get pretty damn powerful.

Thanks again for playing though!

Submitted(+1)

Haha well i'm no reference for skill,  so that has to be taken into account as well :p

but yeah the enemies on the way to station 2 felt a bit tough compared to the starter ship and i don't know if you could farm to upgrade if you collected drops from ships and work towards better hardware (i suppose the numbers on the Postal ships are prices for stuff you can buy ?)

Hope i didn't come as too harsh on the game cause that wasn't the intent, like i said the game has qualities despite the difficulty :)

Developer(+1)

You should be able to use the coward's route:

Submitted(+1)

Welp i guess i went a bit too bold on my "run for it" approach cause i didn't try that big of a detour XD

This route is probably smarter for sure

Also like i told @D4ys i hope i didn't come as too harsh on the game cause that wasn't the intent ^^

Developer(+1)

No man, I think all critique and opinions are valuable 😁 The marks shown on the ship are how many kills of that faction you still need. We definitely made the starter ship pretty weak but I think after you unlock the red and the black ship you'll have a lot more fun with fights, if you'd like to try again :D

Submitted(+1)

I'll try and give it another shot to see the other ships in between playing and trying other games of the jam ^_^

You guys don't like to make it easy on yourself! This is a very ambitious project - for better and worse.

The good:
* The visuals. It should go without saying at this point that with D4yz on the team, the game is going to be a looker. There's a lot of artwork here and it's all clean and stylish.
* The music. Lau's adaptive soundtrack works wonders in setting the appropriate tone, and the fact that it's all one big song makes the game feel... big. Instead of being a section of little levels and little songs, everything is contained in one big expanse; the music peaks and dips with the action but never cuts out entirely. It really helps to immerse you in the world.
* The writing. There's a beautiful dark humour that pervades every sentence. It's witty, it's funny, and it pulls you into a sordid world where you're asked to risk life-and-limb just to bring someone a pair of undercrackers.

The bad:
* The gameplay. This is where the game's ambition comes back to haunt it. Running errands interspersed with combat encounters is a great premise (it's pretty much Elite Dangerous, come to think of it), but the execution here lets it down. The moment-to-moment combat isn't very satisfying: given how fast and agile the enemies are compared to my ship, beholden as it is to the fickle whims of Newtonian physics, there's not much incentive to do much more than sit where you are, point at the enemies and plink away with anemic-feeling weaponry. That is until you run into those green things! If those ever show up on your screen, it's game over already. You can't outrun them, and you can't outgun them. Did I mention that you'll encounter them on your way to the second mission objective?
* Poor explanation. There's a lot that the game leaves you in the dark about, such as where you're supposed to take each package, or how to see how much money you have, or why I suddenly couldn't pick up items left behind by destroyed enemies. Given that there are a fair few systems at play here, it's quite frustrating.

Like I said, there's a lot here - maybe too much - so I can't be certain that I've given it a fair shake, in all honesty. I'll come back later and have another go at it.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the detailed feedback John, very much appreciated. I went a bit crazy with the difficulty and that really doesn't serve anyone well. But I hope people still find some enjoyment in it all.

Submitted(+2)

Damn being a space courier is hard work! One small issue that I had was that when the game asks me to deliver something to, say, station 2, I wasn't quite sure how to figure out where that is, or which icon represents it.

Developer(+2)

Hey man!

Once you unlock some new ships, especially those with lasers, it should become easier! Especially after unlocking the black ship. That's a relief to hear, by the way, after a night of tetris effecting about all the potential bugs 😂

Tab should show you a map, and the station will be highlighted with a little smiling post letter icon... Maybe the flag would have been more obvious. I didn't get the marker to show the right station in the HUD with a special icon unfortunately.
