Really nice music and cute animations/art! Very polished submission!

I tried normal and easy but did not notice a difference. I was hoping it would add air resistance or change the gravity a little. The game seems to run fine so I do not think it is related to frame rate.

Developer

Oh, no, easy mode just gives you a lot more health. 😃 Thanks for playing and the kind words!

Really cool graphics and audio. I also enjoyed the animations of the player. The controls were a bit hard for me to have something else than Space for jump. The game itself was very cool, I had no accessibility problems. The UI Healthbar was also pretty nice and looked so good. Well done!

Developer

Yeah, it's much easier with a controller, but I understand your point pretty well! Sorry about that. I'm glad you had fun though!

Submitted(+3)

Excellent audio & visuals! The controls were a bit twitchy for my taste - like others have said, maybe some sort of drag or air resistance would make them feel more controllable. Overall great entry :)

Developer

Thanks!

Yo the music is a BANGER (good thing). It felt like a simple, fun, and polished platformer. And the animations were so crisp - really awesome game. I especially liked the fireball spit animation.

It would be nice if there were some air resistance just when you're moving mid air. I feel like I move out of control in the air trying to land perfectly on the platform.

Developer

Makes sense, thanks!

This was really fun! Nice job slowly introducing the new attacks. It reminded me of like an old school mario game. The animations, music and general gameplay all felt really polished. Great job on the submission!

Developer

Thanks so much!

Submitted(+3)

I had to much fun playing this title! Animations are great, music hits right in the feels and game feels good and polished. Congrats!

Developer

Thanks a lot!

This is a good game.  Loved the art and animations.  Especially the death animation.  The controls are floaty though.  My hunch is that the horizontal deceleration/friction needs upping just a tiny bit.  However, it is a lovely and fully realized game.  Really liked it.

Developer

The friction is massive - pretty sure it's something else, but we'll look into it! Thanks for your feedback, it's appreciated!

Submitted(+1)

Sorry, I should not have said friction.  The deceleration in the air is what I mean.  Anyway, good luck :)

Developer

Oh okay, fair enough! It's a good call out - that I didn't have any of, and had considered it, but when I added it, it was way too much. I didn't think to try just a small amount, so will try that and see how it feels!

Submitted(+3)

A fantastic game! Love the artwork, the animations, and all the different abilities you can unlock.

The controls are a bit floaty, and the platforms a difficult distance apart for how little control you have in the air.

Other than that, it was super fun!

Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the feedback! Yeah, we knew it was a bit floaty and platforms weren't distanced perfectly in all cases, but didn't have time to resolve it. We will work on it!

Submitted(+3)

That's some serious entry ! The only negative thing I personally find is how abruptly the left/right speed changes when you fall, it makes aiming platforms a bit frustrating

Developer

Yes, absolutely agreed! We intend to fix that post-voting (actually we've already started working on it). Thank you for the kind words!

I think you smashed all the possible ways that a game could be good, great art, great sounds design, great idea, great theme.  This feels like a full release game that found it's way into the Jam.  Amazing work all of you!!!  Also I appreciate the easy mode.  I had a crash after acquiring the 3rd ability gem (probably my fault for hammering all the keys tryin to see what the ability would do) and had to restart.  The contrast between the 2 difficulties was really night and day.  Much more my speed but I appreciate that the regular mode was so difficult.  Literally the only minor nitpick that I have is that sometimes you can get wombo comboed by a couple things in a row which doesn't feel great esp on the difficulty where you can only take like 3 hits.

Developer

Yes, it can get very difficult at times. Was really hard to test all the changes we were making to the design near the end, but I appreciate that someone found and used the easy mode! I had forgotten to merge it to my git repo with 10 minutes left and couldn't figure out why it wasn't showing up in the game itself, so had to scramble to re-upload after realizing my silly mistake. :P But in any case, it was a last minute add because I was struggling, too! Thank you so much for such kind words.

I love the sound of the petrifying spell! So satisfying.

A very cohesive game for such a short time period. Really liked what you made of the theme.

Developer

Thanks, we're pretty proud too!

Fun art, great mix of utility + combat abilities - really enjoying the game. I could get lost in a game like this. Really appreciate the directional pointers indicating when you need to backtrack to use new abilities and the like. Really well executed, well done!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words - bringing a tear to my eyes!

quite an amazing game , I'm very impressed

Developer

Thank you so much! Means a lot to us.

Submitted(+2)

What a great game! The art is all so well done and the character's abilities are super unique.
The jump was tough to get used to but not bad at all!

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad our choice of abilities felt good! That was something we weren't sure of early on with this concept. Thanks for the kind words!

Submitted(+3)

I love the look of the imp.  Some good ideas with the powerups - I liked that to handle the dogs you just make them run away.  Controls were a little hard for me but by using a controller and maybe a little bit of easy mode I just about managed.

Developer(+2)

I'm glad the controller helped! Our designer and artist Kai insisted on having the controller work for it! Thank you for the feedback!

Submitted(+3)

I love the music animations and sfx! I think a delay on the player's hurtbox would help the gameplay, and a delay for doors as well. I had a lot of fun playing, great submission!

Developer(+1)

Yes, absolutely great ideas! I'll need to add something like that into my toolkit. Thank you so much!

Submitted(+3)

Love the animations! Great game. I have much respect for anyone who can implement a metroidvania with the requisite foreshadowing and reincorporation of previous elements. Good job.

Only teeny tiny nitpick is I didn't hear any audio feedback for the standard jump.

Developer

Very true! I had it for landing but not for the jump itself, good call out. Thanks for the feedback and playing!

Submitted(+3)

Awesome visuals, and great music! Loved the imp transformation, had a lot of charm and it gives a really good first impression!

Had some trouble with the camera, sometimes it would stay up, preventing me from seeing where I would land when jumping, and sometimes it would center, I wasn't entirely sure what this was due to. It'd be nice if the player was able to control the camera position with the vertical arrow keys.

Some of the jumps were pretty hard! But that's mostly due to the fact that I wasn't sure how far I could get past the edge without falling off.

Really solid entry!

Developer(+1)

Interesting, re: the camera! Do you recall specifically where that might have occurred? I ask only so I can look to see if I can figure out what was going on - it's great feedback! Thank you so much for the kind words!

Submitted(+1)

I actually recorded my session, might upload it to youtube later! watching it back, at the beginning of the game, the camera starts out vertically off-center towards the sky (you can see more of the space above the player and less of the space below), it re-centered when I hit some spikes.

Developer(+1)

Oh, weird! I'll try that out when I get home. I think I know what happened. Darn! I have a bug I bet where if I do the camera shake, it goes back to 0, 0 instead of the initial offset! Good find! If you do upload it, mention it here and I'll hype your channel. 😋

Submitted(+3)

What a great game!  My one issue is that the jumping is hard to control.

Developer

Yeah, it's a little loose. I tried to tighten it up a bit, but never settled on a way I really liked. I appreciate the feedback though! Thanks so much for playing!

Submitted(+3)

So, the art and music are really good, but the deceleration of the character controller is way too loose, which makes a lot of the platforming harder than it should be, IMO.

Also, the camera feels a little too close to the screen, IMO, leading to a bit of screen crunch.

Still, very impressive to pull off within a week!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and for playing! We'll keep it in mind for next time.
