The game is nice, I found it a little difficult and I would have liked to have checkpoints. For the fights I just spammed my space bar and it worked pretty well, I would have preferred it to be a little more subtle :p

The theme is well respected, nice job

Developer

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback

Looks really cool! I couldn't figure out the attack timing on spiders to get very far, though...

Thanks for playing, I'll work on the combat difficulty

Tough game.  Love the graphics.  I enjoyed playing this game :)

Developer

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it

Wow! Are spiked randomly spawning from the ground or are they just not visible? Two times I died to them and felt cheated. And no checkpoints meant I had to do everything all over again. The combat is a bit weird. I could not figure out how to dodge enemy attacks and just spamming the spacebar seemed to work pretty well. Though it was a coin toss of whether I or the spider would attack first. Anyway, I like the graphics and sound design. Maybe the footsteps could also get slower when walking through webs or playing a different sound effect. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. The spikes are only under certain tiles with the broken stone look so they can be avoided after you learn where they are, but I've taken on board the feedback that there needs to be a hint of where they are before you step on them. Had a lot of feedback on the difficulty and have a few ideas to improve on it.

Cool 2d lighting.

Is it possible to damage the spiders without getting damaged? Though that was the difficult part

Developer

Thanks for playing, it is technically possible because you have slightly more range and a hit knocks them back a little, but with the lack of feedback on when to hit very unlikely, something for me to look into after voting closes

Fun entry, I like the visuals. Was the door puzzle inspired by Sonic Adventure?

Developer

Thanks for playing. I haven't played sonic adventure, I should put my raspberry Pi to good use and set up a retro box. I'm sure the inspiration came from somewhere but I can't think what

I love the play style and the use of light. Though I could only made it to the crabs after many tries, I also notice that if I kite the crab into the trap they would die instantly lol.
Feedback: I think you should either let the player know there will be trap or add a delay to the traps so there is a learning curve instead of making player dying miserably.

Overall, its a great game and I enjoyed it!

Developer

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback. I honestly thought with the traps you'd be able to get back quickly enough it would just be a funny hiccup on the first run, it's funny how that works when you keep testing your own game. I could make it fade in as you get close

Your game is very nice. My game is also quite similar but with bow & arrow instead of sword. Although, it was a bit too difficult but I enjoyed playing it.

Good job

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the difficulty being a bit off

Also if you have some time, please try and rate my game and help me with some feedback if you can because this is my first public game and first game jam, so it will be helpful to have some feedback.

Developer(+1)

Definitely will do

I give your game a try, but the difficulty was too high for me. The sword attack reach is too limited for the fights, maybe if it would have applied damage all around the player it would have been better. I was running in the ennemies to be sure to attack them.

I really like the work on the light, really inspiring.

Developer

Thanks for playing. Yeah it's clear now I got the difficult a bit off. It does apply dammage all around but I must have got some hitboxes wrong, more things to look at after voting ends

In terms of orignality, I've preferred your last game(longest night). However I can tell you've learned a lot since the last game jam.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing. I agree it wasn't the most original concept, but that's something we have to go through to learn. I'm trying to go for something different every jam to drive me to learn more

Submitted

I also believe that is the purpose for game jams. Good luck on your journey!

Fun little game. You can't go wrong with some good old running around a dungeon, swinging your sword, drinking potions, and all that goodness.

I found the game to be a little too difficult for my taste. I seemed to take damage in practically every encounter I had with an enemy, and the fact that when you died you spawned back at the beginning was a bit disheartening. Something as simple as checkpoints, if you have plans to continue working on this, would really help I think.

Overall though, I had a good time. It might just be that the dungeon is absolutely, one hundred percent, a thousand times too dangerous for me.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback. It does look like the difficulty was a bit off, I think the first thing I'll look at is some better feedback of when to hit and when the enemies hit, there's a couple of good places to drop checkpoints in too.

Solid entry for a solo effort. I tend to prefer original art over asset packs, even if it's not as high-quality.

Developer

Thanks for playing. I agree myself, that's why I'm always upfront about using 3rd party assets, I'm just working through different skills a little at a time and art wasn't my focus for this go, maybe next time

I enjoyed the game. I liked the used of 2d lighting. The combat made it a little difficult to get very far as I'm not completely sure how to get the attack timing right to survive. I laughed when I hit the first trap. I wish I could have gotten deeper into the dungeon to see what else you had built.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it
