Game Description
Chronotaur is a top-down, 8-bit, roguelite, action-RPG. The inspiration for Chronotaur was "What if Hades was for the Gameboy?"
How does your game tie into the theme?
Chronotaur is a play on myths and folklore and how what we consider myths and legends now may mean something completely different than how we have interpreted them. The maze of the labyrinth has become time itself.

I thought the music fit the retro look, but the sprites made it too easy to lose your character. Maybe if the background could have had less contrast than the moving characters?
As others have said it could use some work, but I enjoyed it, actually went in for a second try when the fireball guy got me, good job.
Hmm, it has it's up and downs. :-)
While I like the retro style it was just to much and nervous b&w texture for me. It hurts my eyes and I think less is more at some places.
The audio fits excelent the retro style. Good feeling.
A great entry! very game boy in look and sound. Those health potions - my relief when I was at only double digits health!
Not a bad little game at all, especially for a first time ever! As others have said the combat was sorely lacking in the "oomph" department, but nothing broke and I made my way through the whole game on my second try. Loved the choice of music, and the art, while a little rough on the eyes, definitely gave that oldschool gameboy vibe. Great job, thanks for making us a game!
Thanks for the feedback, yeah combat was the thing I as least sure on so I plan to work on that some. I agree on the art, it is a lot of harsh contrast in one setting. I thought about trying to add more color in places, but also wanted color to be really rare. I appreciate the critique!
Nice, I like the concept of increasing difficulty each loop. I also like the theme tie in with the minotaur trapped in the labyrinth, it's like you are both trapped within the story of good vs evil!
I definitely agree that the combat could use some refinement. Attacking in multiple directions, as well as an indicator of where the attack is hitting, would be really nice. Definitely really solid for your first entry to the jam, I look forward to seeing those improvements in your next entry!!
Thanks! Technically it should be hitting in four directions at once, but I think the collision detection for the up and down hit box are currently bugged. Will look into improving on that. I will absolutely being participating in the next jam. I think doing a couple more solo and then I will feel comfortable enough to look for a team.
Oooh that makes sense
Nice! Yeah that's pretty much what my friend @MrDryerAtNight have been doing. Our first few jams were just as a duo but we are looking at working with more teammates for future jams. It's nice to grow your skills on a smaller team so you feel confident when working with strangers lol
I really liked the music and the artistic style, but I couldn't very well understand the moment when I should attack and block, I feel that the timing and behavior of the enemies is not very clear.
but it's still a great job! :D
Thanks for the feedback and I agree enemy AI was something very lacking. I was concerned about time and was going to revisit if I had enough. It needed some sound queues and better animations for attacking.
Hades for gameboy indeed! I liked the cohesive art direction for this game. The combat pacing was tight, boy was I glad when I saw health potions drop when I most needed it. And the dash was a good way to get out of a goblin swarm in a pinch.
The hit range could perhaps be lengthened to make the game feel more forgiving. And a QOL improvement might be to allow players to hit vertically instead of only horizontally.
Solid entry for a first game jam entry overall!
Cool game, I enjoyed the use of recursion in the dungeon. Great choice of music and pixel art for your theme of “Hades for the Gameboy!”
Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it!
I enjoy the looping
Really great work. Love the background music especially.
Thanks!
