Curses, What the Duck

Game Description
Curse of the Wereduck is a short beat-em-up inspired by the classic Streets of Rage. In Curse of the Wereduck, you beat up duck cultists by harnessing the power of the Wereduck, being careful not to fall prey to the toll the Wereduck takes on the bodies of those who harness it.

How does your game tie into the theme?
We decided that light and dark could be interpreted as something like a conflict between the dark and light within a character. With the transformation mechanic and along with our interpretation of the "curses" wildcard (making transformation significantly strengthen yet also lower the health of the character), players must find a good balance between the light and darkness within the character.

Funny little beat 'em up. The gameplay got stale pretty quickly though...

Fairly interesting game but sadly very bad screen/display settings.

This is how I saw the game on 4K screen set to 2K (retina).

Next time check the Window settings.

Straight off the bat I love the fact that "quacks" sneak into the music.

I didn't run into any problems but as others have mentioned I did get a bit overwhelmed by enemies spawning which then got me killed. If you were to expand I'd say definitely some sort of combo counter to apply more damage the higher your combat multiplier or something along those lines.

As a classic video game amator, beat'em all is always enjoyable for me. Music is good, and artwork fit the game well. Maybe there is too many enemies otherwise it's cool !

Fun side-scrolling action game, reminds me of TMNT/Double Dragon

PROS:

  • Fast paced action keeps you engaged
  • Full options menu at start with key binding availability

Critiques:

  • Seemed to get overwhelmed by mobs quickly
  • Didn't seem to find a way to pause the game
  • Only master channel audio seemed to be working in Config menu
  • Attacks seemed to be able to be spammed, pushing mobs back and not allowing them a chance to attack back

Fun beat em up! It reminds me of the old beat em up games. It brought a smile to my face playing it :)

I wish there was a little more visual feedback when I was getting hit. I couldn't tell sometimes. Overall it was a fun game,

The music is AMAZING. And catchy.

...quack!

The first time I transformed into a wereduck it was such a delightful surprise. I love that interpretation of the theme and how you combined the curse and duck wildcards.

Interesting entry! I havent' seen much sidescrolling beat-em-ups in a while! The concept of transforming into a wereduck is really cool (an on theme for the main requirement and all wildcards, clever!)

Music was great, really catchy!

In terms of gameplay, its not immediately clear to me how the 3 attacks differed. Perhaps having more powerful attacks on longer cooldown might encourage players to switch up their strategy. Right now, spamming jab seems to be the best way to progress. The hitboxs on the uppercut seemed shorter and harder to land.

There also isn't a clear incentive to transform into a wereduck. On top of losing health, you also do not feel substantially stronger. Perhaps a more powerful wereduck form would encourage players to switch more often.

Nonetheless, a solid entry!

Great music, the art is really cool, and the game play is fun! I did get overwhelmed fairly quickly after a bit of time playing. I’m not sure if it’s a skill issue on my part or designed to overwhelm the player quickly. Either way I had a good time!

Love the wereduck concept! I think I would like a little more a flinch when I get hit since I couldn't tell I was losing HP at times.

I had a hard time playing and understand what the game was about.
It remind me of Street of rage gameplay in some way, and the music was a banger though
