Game Description
A small game were yearnie wants to traverse the mines, but he has to avoid falling rocks to be able to yearn!

How does your game tie into the theme?
In this game, we took the theme "Freeze" literally: The main concept is freezing the rocks in place to avoid them.

Great little game! Happy old yearnie had my back. :-D

I think I completed level 7 and then it might have gotten a bit too hard for me, but it was quite entertaining until then!  I think a little smoothing of the camera when the cart goes up and down could have improved my experience - but it's a very minor thing. Great job!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback and for playing :D

I YEARN! This game was so simple yet perfectly scoped for a jam. I thought freezing falling rocks was a fantastic interpretation of the theme and was SO satisfying. I wish that the cart would go faster or I had some time to see rocks falling ahead of time. Thanks for the entry.

Developer

Thank you for playing and the feedback!

Very nice! Loved the menu navigation, and the dialogs gave the game extra charm.

Developer

Thank you for the nice feedback!

Nice first submission!Good job making different kinds of obstacles. I also like the way you organized levels and navigation. I would recommend adding even more variety of obstacles + maybe give a bit more control of the cart speed?

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! More obstacles and a way to  kind of control the cart speed are things that are often mentioned. We will definitely keep that in mind for future jams or other projects.

Again: Thank you very much for the feedback and for playing the game :D

It's a simple concept but it works well. the sound of when you lose made me laugh haha.

Maybe making the levels a little more dynamic or with other elements would have helped the experience, but it's still entertaining.

Great job :D

Developer

Thank you for your feedback :D I'm glad you found it entertaining :D

I wish you could control the speed of the minecart with A and D the same way you can in the level select. This also would have been a good way to make the difficulty adjustable (slower for more time, faster for more challenge).

I'm pretty bad at this game (couldn't beat level 6), so even when I was able to hit all the boulders, I would still die because they were close enough to the track to hit me. I probably tried that level about 20 times before I gave up.

Still fun while it lasted nonetheless.

Developer(+1)

Some adjustable difficulty would have been nice. I myself have actually never completed all the levels, Devler (my partner for the jam) did, but I didn't xD
Thinking back to it, we probably could have thought of a sort of speed up slow down mechanic and/or extra difficulty change in settings ourselves, especially considering how many people pointed it out. But in the end we oversaw it.

Thank you very much for the feedback! We will try to improve everything that was said the next time we compete in a jam!
But most importantly: Thank you very much for playing and having fun while doing so :D

This does a good job at preventing bullet spam from being a foolproof solution to the whole game, so kudos for that. Some of those boulders felt like real cheap shots though, not sure if that's what you were going for.

FYI for next time (or a patch), the freeze with particle effects happens the first time that ParticleProcessMaterial appears in a scene somewhere where it renders, as that's the point when it needs to compile. Allegedly Godot 4.4 fixes it, but until then you can force it to happen by placing a particles node somewhere on the screen for a frame (right after a level load, for example, so that it doesn't interrupt gameplay).

Developer

Some of the boulder shots were just to make you feel secure and safe, after which usually comes an  extremely fast one to try and catch you off guard. I don't know if you refer to that or if it even worked, but  thank you for your feedback regarding the level design.

Thank you for the tip regarding the particles, I guess I could just add some kind of load screen where I first load all the particles. I will definitely try it out. I hope it didn't interrupt your experience too much!

Thank you very much for the feedback and tips. And most importantly: Thank you for playing :D

This game is actually really cool, I like infinite mode but I'd be interested in seeing some kinda high score mechanic. I really loved the dude talking to me, especially in things like the pause menu etc. I really think the game just got too hard after level five, and I was in no way going to beat it. Good submission though!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I actually wanted to implement a score system, but forgot it in the end.
Some way to slightly change the difficulty, maybe by letting the player adjust the speed of the minecart and rocks would have been nice, we just didnt think of it.

Thank you very much for playing and the feedback!

This was fun! I really enjoyed the challenge of forcing myself to not shoot at everything because I may or may not have shot at some of the gap filling rocks. 😂 The parallax effect seemed to be backwards, so I found that a tad distracting at first. However, the game was fun enough that I was able to ignore it after the 1st level. The "death" animations were great, and the highlight for me.

Developer

We actually didnt notice the backwards background at all. Thank you for pointing it out! I am glad you found the game fun, that is the most important think in my opinion :D

Thank you for playing!!

Fun game. May be if you add a way to change the speed will be more challenging. Nice graphics.

Developer

Thank you! More freedom regarding the speed would have been nice and actually easy to implement, we just didnt think of it within the time xD
But thank you for playing and leaving  a review :D

Super fun game, we really enjoyed it! It would be good to be able to control the speed to the cart, but other than that it was really cool. Also, the animation when a rock hits you is hilarious xD

Developer

I am glad you liked it! We also thought the death animation was hilarious. Did you also check out the death animation if you freeze a falling rail rock? I think it too is really funny xD
Controlling the speed of the cart is something I read a lot about in the comments, I will keep that in mind in case we make something similar sometime in the future.

Anyway, thank you for playing!

We have now tried it! xD

Great work!

Awesome concept, well done! I really enjoyed firing the weapon, I hope that the cart could move faster, similar to how Terraria's minecart works (you could even add obstacles to jump over if the cart has a higher max speed). But the game is fun, the dialogues are nice, and the tutorials go directly to the point. Good job!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! We even thought about adding some kind of obstacles, but decided to first make the game playable before adding new things! The minecart actually has a different speed in every level and in the infinite level it gets faster the longer you play, but we could've certainly added something like acceleration when the player goes downward or similar things.

Thank you very much for playing!

Submitted

Good job! Freezing the falling rocks was super satisfying. I also appreciated that hitting the rock again would un-freeze it, I felt like it did a good job of preventing me from just spamming shots.

Developer

Thank you very much for playing! I am glad you found it satisfying!

Nice game! I kept shooting rapidly at first, but when I played it as intended, it turned out to be quite a fun experience.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and having fun :D
We thought about adding a small cooldown for the shooting, but it may have messed things up for more difficult levels, so we just left it in because we couldn't find a fitting alternative with the time limit.

Submitted

Cool game! I am very impressed by the sheer amount of game you were able to put out during the jam with endless modes, a good tutorial, and multiple levels. Definitely an idea that can be expanded upon. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! We are glad to hear such positive feedback! A lot of time went into making things so that we enjoyed them, and we are glad that you could enjoy them too!

An Ice Beam that would make Metroid proud! I yearned (nice work!)

Developer

Thank you for playing! Yearnie also liked to yearn with you!

Nice game! Balancing is done nicely, not too hard in the beginning and ramps up in a good pace.
