this is fun! I love when these smaller games lean into letting you get pretty powerful or break mechanics. As soon as I started shooting the 3 way spray attack, that gave the experience really fun progression. Nice job! One small thing I might do is just give character a little shadow sprite, help ground them in the top down perspective

Developer

Holy cow, thank you so much for playing!! I love your videos, they're such a huge motivation booster for people like me with a lot left to learn! You're totally right, the characters do seem a bit "floaty" visually, I think shadows would help a lot! Dang... now I'm picturing an unnecessarily complicated shadow system that uses skew to make each character and object cast a shadow that stretches realistically depending on the time of day... that would be so cool xD

Super pumped to check out you guys's submission before the deadline!! Thanks so much again for the review :D

Good-looking and fun game! It feels good to move around collecting all the upgrades :) I wish the night-day cycles were a bit slower so I had more time to enjoy each upgrade before getting another one. Congrats on the great work!

Really fun to play through.  Tying some of the transformations to changing how you move or recover in certain areas was a great idea, making me actually have to traverse the map and change up how I'm playing because I just so happened to grow a fish body overnight gave me a good reason to go explore.

Some consistent slowdown after about 4 nights, but it's manageable.

Incredible. Just incredible. When the theme Methamorphosis was released, this is exactly what I was hoping to see people make! The game is a blast, feels super polished and I especially love the fact upgrades are not direct gains. Eg. you trade range for damage with the wolf head. I'd definitely love to see more of this concept down the road!

Developer(+1)

Aww, thank you so much for your kind words!! I definitely thought it would be fun to really lean into the tradeoffs each new body part would bring, and I wish I'd been able to do so much more than I did! I really do like the idea, though, I might just finish it up in the future :D

Love your entry! Was surprised when suddenly my head was  on a chain, would be nice to add the option to eat with that if you decide to develop it further.

Felt reactive, good to play and nice graphics and sound, well done!

Developer(+1)

Ahh yes!! I had that thought too, I honestly wish I had xD It's easy to get focused on the "main" part of the game and forget that it's the little things like that that make characters fun to control in the first place!

Thanks so much for the kind words!

Nice little game! It really felt like Spore met Vampire Survivors! I really liked how different actions and behaviors might alter our creature's shape! Also had an issue with lag during night and noticed some enemies would spawn outside of the world border, perhaps those two things are linked! Nonetheless, fun entry, and I can only wonder what a full game like this might look like!

Developer(+1)

Hey, thank you so much!! I definitely wish I'd finished this game in time to playtest it and catch some of the bigger issues like the game-breaking lag and balance issues xD Definitely learning a lot from the mistakes, though, really happy for the chance to participate!

I really enjoyed The White Light back a few jams ago, and Run As Admin just blew my mind in the best possible way! I've gotta write a proper review next ^^ Keep up  the great work!!

Oh wow I'm glad you liked my previous game, it does ressemble yours in the "Vampire Survivors" aspect of it, and I reallyyyy related given that I too had to work around not having enemies spawn outside the world border haha
You keep up the great work too and never stop jamming! :)

Lots of fun! I loved having the chompers, so I played again without realizing you could get different parts and got the seed head thing. So great!

I did have framerate issues (web) during the night after the first couple of days.

Great job :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! The chompy wolf head was one of my favorite things too xD Hopefully after the jam I can figure out how to optimize the enemies better, I had a lot of fun making them but they're definitely slowing the game down a ton haha. Really glad you had fun regardless!! ^^

I enjoyed the music and new abilities, however it was unclear how I played affected how I transformed. Maybe if there could be some feedback or stat to look up?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hey, thanks so much for the feedback! You're totally right--as it is, there's not really any good heads-up about what triggers acquiring each body part, or how each body part affects you. Maybe there should have been some kind of UI element to help keep the player updated on each stat they're increasing and how high it needs to be to trigger the next transformation...?  Either way, I'm glad for everything I'm learning from this project!

The game is fun and replayable, and the music really enhances the experience. However, there may be some optimization issues when firing many projectiles.

Developer

Hey there, thanks so much for giving it a shot!! Yes, there's definitely some serious optimization issues I didn't expect to affect the game as much as they did xD I definitely hope to get to the bottom of things there!

cool to have that much replayability in a jam game

Hey there!! Thanks so much for playing :)
