Good platformer!
GAMEPLAY
The platformer featured smooth controls that tended towards being a bit slippery, which added an extra challenge. Sometimes I would have liked a waypoint so that I wouldn’t have to redo as much level when I made a mistake (and I made a lot ;-)). The extra abilities are nice bonus. Did get stuck somewhere in level one when I fell and could not get out. Restarted and passed that part and no worries after that. It was a bit difficult for me with butter fingers but I almost made it to the end and watched the video for the last part.
ART STYLE / VISUALS
The pixel art was appealing and nice and probably lot of effort, but i payed of and also the animations made it feel for alive. Light effects also cool.
AUDIO / SOUND DESIGN
The 8-bit music track and sound effects appropriately complemented the retro style of the game.
INNOVATION
Not really applicable
THEME
The theme was only lightly incorporated into the game, not deeply explored but still acknowledged. Check
Overall a solid decent fun platformer game. Well done. Keep it up like this đź’Ş.
The game looks geat and the controls are very responsive! Awesome game!
I liked the music, characters were cute. The basic platforming controls were okay, to me the gravity was a little high and the characters a little too slippery. I liked the ideas for the platforming abilities, but it felt a little crowded ability wise I guess. I got stuck where the shift to run ability is introduced because it took ages to figure out you actually had to touch the “move forward arrow sign” to get the ability 👀 I still had to go the secret route with the ground pound to get past that section because jump didn’t always seem to respond right when dashing. From there it was mostly smooth sailing, though I kept dying to the waterfall down below the path to the bad ending, maybe you need something else first to do that?
I think the dash ability is just too powerful, and while wavedashing tricks and stuff are fun with it, i was surprised to see in your walkthrough video you also struggled to not die after that one dash, where the momentum just pushes you into that death wall. Of course, the problem with making a platformer is everyone has opinions on how they should or shouldn’t be :P
I will say the camera movement seemed a little jerky, especially having the background parallax vertically causing some motion sickness, and the bloom was blinding at times. Really wish you had gone with a different font, or sharpened the rendering on this one cause I also found it nearly impossible to read.
But otherwise it looked good, played good, had a lot of neat ideas, and was complete. A really solid entry to be proud of :D
for the waterfall yea you need the secret waterproof ability, thats also the path to the good ending, needing all 4 abilities, the bad ending happeneds if you skip it, yea the dash was kinda too fast, thanks for the feedback
I love đź’• platformer games especially 2d. Morever the lighting effect is also eye-catching .
Keep it up.
You can play n rate mine as well
nice visuals and music, felt pretty good to play and looking for the secrets for the good ending was pretty fun. there was one little slope near the beginning that I kept falling through, and I wasn't sure if it was intentional to let me dash through the big yellow block to find the second secret, but pretty cool game!
Love the visuals and controls of it.
Pretty neat game
The game was way to hard for my butter fingers : )
I did have fun the the controls tho , even till the part I covered , the game was fun and well designed
The art style was visually encapsulating and sound effects were nice !
Overall good game !
The game was well designed, but levels were unreasonably long. Some early levels were just 2-3 minutes of non-challenging simple platforming with nothing new to teach the player. The Controls were good, but the camera was mostly focused above the player, so sometimes seeing below was hard.
Did a good job anyway!
2-3 minutes?, i think thats the length of the whole game, are you talking about the long corpse hallway? use the slide, youll pass it in a couple seconds
Very fun platformer, The art is good, music loop is nice and the environmental story telling is well done.
I got the bad ending, 40% completion I will try it again.
I enjoyed this game, the controls are crisp most of the time and I like that holding space actually makes you jump higher. The artstyle felt super cute and I thought you cleverly hid secrets in this game and thanks to there being pretty generous checkpoints I never felt not adventurous enough to check these secrets out. Unfortunately I got stuck at 80% at one of the dash passages because I wasn't able to jump high enough. My only other criticism is that the font you chose makes some text illegible, especially if the character is close enough for the text to be affected by their light. All in all though this was definitely one of the better platformers I've played in this jam!
you are supposed to dash upwards the dash is a 8 directional dash
Oh I didn't know that! I'll give it a try and update my rating! ^^
I got stuck multiply times in places that seem impossible to get out of; I fell through the yellow platforms when falling from too high, which I think it is not intended to be that way; and I died in one part in the first level when touch the edge of the screen, although there was nothing there. Yes, a reset button would have been good, I ended up quitting after getting stuck in a place with two walls that were too high to jump onto. Graphics and music are nice.
The visuals look very polished and it looks pretty nice. I think the coyote time is fine but I think it would be very nice to have a jump buffer for the controls to feel better. I often find myself pressing the jump button right before landing and it doesn't jump. I also think that the physics feel pretty weird sometimes, especially with the dash. For some reason, the dash on my PC goes a lot further that the one you showcase in your video and that makes some sections way harder. It's kinda fun to use though since I can move super fast and even get through some walls :)
Got the bad ending but im happy wiht it. The controls are nice but the upgrades that I found: the dash and the sprint are very hard to use specially the dash I guess its because the game is meant to be challenging and as I dont really like this type of games Im not used to it. I like the visuals especially the yellow ray light platforms, great music aswell.
The movement is really nice in this game, I like how it’s safer to move faster than it is to move slower.
I wish however that, for a platformer, coyote time was implemented since there were many times I’ll just fall off a ledge because I was slightly too early/late with my input.
there is actually coyote time 0.2 seconds actually, maybe thats too little?
Whoops! Then I’m just bad at the game.
great game! the ambiance is awesome, movement feels great, and there's lots of polish for a jam game. minor nitpicks would be that the theme application is kind of basic and would like the addition of a restart button as I soft locked myself mutiple times (i suck at platformers) in the first little bit and had to refresh browser to continue. Loved the character sprite and how smooth everything feels, really enojyed playing it!
DAMN IT I FORGOR :((((((( thanks or the feedback!!!
yw homie, dope game!!
Preface
The rating is based on my personal preferences alone. Generally, I'm pretty open to new experiences, but I prefer games where lots of things happen. I tend to be a harsh critic.
I have not finished the game yet (I'm stuck at the dash stage)
Gameplay/Fun
Pretty enjoyable (you can go real fast), but slippery. Also, you can fall out of the level at times - let the player die organically (e.g. put some spikes underneath the level).
Art Style/Visuals
It's obvious that you put a lot of effort into the art, and I appreciate that, but it clashes in places and loose ends can be seen, like in the corpse scene.
Audio/Sound Design
I mean, the song is good, but its tone hardly fits the setting. Also, it's just one song.
Innovation
No innovation to be seen.
Theme
You're completely alone, so the game is accurate to the theme.
Verdict: Good game.
RATING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
thanks for the feedback!, it was intentional to make it slippery, the slide wasnt meant for a run button, it was just mean to zoom through places fast in one direction and jump, id say the dash is the best ability to get around since you can wavedash, time constraints + being busy made so i had to ignore some of the stuff, like music, so its just one song, thank you tho!
It's a really neat game; it's obvious a lot of effort went into it. Felt nice to control, and the polish was really good. The atmosphere was perfect for the theme! Some real quick notes- the really intense into felt like sensory overload, especially the flashing lights. And the grey body kind of blended in with the background, even with the bright light over it I was still missing jumps because I couldn't see my character! But seriously, those tidbits aside the game plays really well and the atmosphere fits the theme really well!
thanks for the feedback!
