The platforming feels really nice. I also like the soft palette and the glowy aesthetic. Plus the music is really chill. I had a good time playing this!

Cool project, it fits the theme well, and the gameplay is nice and simple. I really like how the stages build on themselves and get more and more challenging. Great stuff!

This is a nice, solid platformer! I love the simplicity (dare I say, minimalism) of the project, and your music + sfx work great together! I won't critique too harshly since you wrote you didn't spend much time on it (and hey, fair enough!), but I would love to see some more mechanics to make for some more engaging gameplay. Things like moving enemies or rotating spikes would add a new dimension to how the player navigates levels, and maybe even some puzzle mechanics such as buttons or levers. I'd say the aesthetics work really well and you did a great job selecting complementing colours for the levels, and I'd recommend some animations for the player to make it feel a bit more grounded in the world. I'm a big fan of squeeshy animations but feel free to play around with what you feel is best :P

Always love to see a platformer in game jams and you pulled it off pretty well! I do hope you continue your development on this game and I look forward to any updates you may give :)

wow thanks for a long review.

i did very much tried to keep it stylistically simple. i always tried to somewhat execute a minimalistic style (you can really notice it in most of my other solo games), but this is the first time i would say i truly like the end result.

i honestly forgot about animations, i must say im also very much a fan of squishing.

i did want to add something like doors and buttons but decided not to spend the 5 hours i had on coding and implementing them. but hey, thats a cool idea.

im not so sure abour moving things since im mostly trying to keep things static across the stages so it gives the feeling of building up over time, but i also dont see anything that really conflicts with it, i will experiment.

honestly i really didnt expect such a warm reception for this project, since i am really dissatisfied with how it turned out overall. but i will probably continue working and try not to let it fall under my usual perfectionist burn out. and who knows maybe steam release one day haha (probably not, its not that original anyways).

No worries at all! What's great about game dev is that we each have our own strengths and when it comes to such a short timeframe, our dev styles change quite a bit! :P

I hope the jam gave you a bit of motivation to continue this project or any others you have - I look forward to your future projects! I also just realised how cool your profile picture is, I approve 👏👏👏

Straight-forward platformer. I even like the floaty jump because you can control the down movement better.

DeveloperSubmitted

that was sorta(?) the intention. i wanted to see if i can make gameplay with a floatier jump than usual.

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Very nice idea, but it felt a little easy and controls a bit floaty. With a few new game mechanics, this can turn into something great! Well made though!

DeveloperSubmitted

yea i wish i made more mechanics.

Your take on the theme is exactly the same as mine! I even almost made the end goal of a level a 3D rotating cube lol. We both got our colors from colorhunt as well. The level design in this one was great, but the controls and movement felt too floaty. Nice game!

:D

DeveloperSubmitted

yea i noticed that our games are literally the same concept. however i suck at making levels and was too lazy to add new mechanics. i honestly really want to update it after the jam i see potential in it. maybe i will change the jump as well, i just kinda gave up on it.

Same with me. I love making platformers, but I'm bad at level design and don't enjoy it because of that. That's probably why I don't end up making platformers into fully-fledged games, even though I've made some stuff that I felt had potential.

:D

Its fairly basic game but I've gotta give you credit for the unique take on the theme - kinda reminds me of There's Only One Level

DeveloperSubmitted

This is the only level (another game in this style) was def a subconcious inspiration

I really enjoyed it! There were a few moments where I got stuck due to a spike but all in all Well Done!

Pretty floaty jump but fun concept!

Submitted(+1)

solid game, the jump is very floaty though that probably my biggest complaint but didn't hinder to much

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

the jump is floaty both because i was too lazy to make it less floaty but also to see if i can work with something like this from a gameplay standpoint. its totally fair you dont like it tho

pretty cool soundtrack ngl
