Great fun, and very cute little bird companion throughout the exploring. I enjoyed discovering the different landmarks in the environment and trying to place them on the map, but there were a couple I just couldn't quite seem to find the correct location for. The 30s delay between tries does deter just spamming it, but I got to a point where I knew vaguely where they needed to go but couldn't quite seem to line them up. As others have suggested, some sort of snapping or way to tell which way they need to move would be very helpful!
But marker placement issues aside, this was very fun!
so polished so cool so much adherent to the theme!
a perfect take on the Idea with stellar execution and a marvelous choice of assets!
great work!
I loved the vibe of the game... It was very soothing! Great job!
Nice relaxing game, the concept is really cool and clearly fits the theme perfectly. At times I struggled placing the tiles but it was really satisfying on those rare occasions where I got one on the first try
really nice game - well done
Actually a very great idea and implementation of the jam theme! I was a bit confusing how to place tiles and I only noticed the text at the bottom after discovering few landmarks, but really cozy and nice lil game!
Very cute game, good use of assets, perfect pun-name. Gameplay wise it could've used some snapping on the paper to help with placement (reduce the risk you'll narrowly miss the correct location) or for proper cartography vibes something like a sextant would be ace (point it at the top of a tree to get how far you are from the tree, then have a grid with distances drawn on the paper)
For spice the map pieces could be given out by the bird rather than directly at the location (so you have to go back, tell the bird what to draw, maybe some questions about how many spires etc). This with the sextant would really make you feel like a duo going out into the world and making maps.
Obviously ignore me if that's not the game you wanna make, but let me know if you work on this further. I could see this easily becoming a Firewatch-type game and wish you luck either way!
Also, for any devs reading this just know that the first thing I will do when I see a door is try to walk through it ;)
Haha oh no... I didn't notice the house door was different than the tower door. It was a separate object in that asset so didn't get covered by the mesh collider.
Snapping would have definitely been a good approach to making the mapping a bit more forgiving. I was also considering a system where you have some indication on bad pieces of which direction they need to go and/or how close they were, but didn't have time to iterate on anything there.
Love the idea of having some tool(s) like a sextant to help you more accurately judge things! And incorporating the bird a bit more directly also could be cool. I couldn't actually find any birds in the asset packs, so that's why they ended up as some flying thing out of sight.
I actually haven't played Firewatch, but the early days of The Long Dark (before their in-game mapping system) was the main inspiration. I used to make hand-drawn maps by trying to get on hills and triangulating landmarks and slowly building up the accuracy. So much fun.
I'm glad you enjoyed, and thanks for the comment!
Loved exploring this wee island. Cooldown definitely felt a bit long while trying to line up the final landmark, but the vibes were strong throughout.
Very cool game. Also very unforgiving on the lack of spatial awareness haha. I couldn't make the whole map!
I thought my spacial awareness was pretty good until I had to put a pirate ship on a map.
good game.
Amazing game ! <3
Enjoyed playing and exploring the island :D
I was able to get 11/12 map pieces B)
Very chilly background musing and game feel ^^
Great job !
I love the idea it's very original, and the game is very relaxing
love the color and some nice dialogues, and the exploration
Nice idea, very wholesome. Let you relax and just explore very neat low poly map :)
Wow, what a great concept and implementation of the theme.
Beautiful game! Perfectly nailed the theme by actively driving me not only to roam around, but actually wanting to explore and keeping an eye out for the next landmark.
A fantastic concept that is well executed, though the cooldown is too long after you have found all the locations. Maybe reducing the cooldown for each location the player finds would help.
Thanks! That would have been a good solution I think. It would feel particularly bad waiting if you're done exploring and just trying to do small tweaks at the end.
very chill game, lovely music
Thanks! The music was from Kistol on OpenGameArt. I was really happy with it, I thought it had some nice Wind Waker vibes with the horns.
Really nice game! I love the calm music with the relaxing gamplay. Really got the exploration nailed! Only criticism is having to wait 30 seconds to check, but other than that great fun.
Great concept. It was interesting to play. However, 30 seconds between attempts feel a little bit frustrating
Thanks! I wanted some limit so you couldn't just spam random placements until you got it right and encourage a back and forth of trying to judge things back in the world. Maybe landed too long though, it was a tough thing to judge knowing the map already.
