That was a really original take on the theme, I liked it! The art and sound designt really make you feel like you're travelling inside the human body, and the viruses are kinda crepy haha.

The only thing I would like changed is the movement speed, since it takes a while to walk through each room, but thats just a minor inconvenience, really great game overall" I wish I had played it before the jam ended.

Its a very cool and fun to play games but i was stuck and could'nt find the rooms LOL...But its very great game!

I really appreciate your effort!

Developer

Thanks! Apologies, I think clearer boundaries in the styling will help address this.

Good game, the enemies are a bit hard to kill but then again I might just be bad at killing them lol, but otherwise nice concept and use of theme

I love the mechanics and complex ai X]. However, I always get lost within the map, maybe some checkpoint system would fix this tho. I hope there will be an version outside of this jam :D

Developer

Thank you! Hopefully we have the opportunity to expand on this, I think those would be great additions/adjustments.

Interesting concept, trying to defend the body from viruses - with a flamethrower no less! It felt like there was so much world and content to explore in this game, and it's always good to have more game. Using a flamethrower as a weapon was a great idea too, and it was fun to just burn things around you, even if there were no enemies. The game did feel a bit slow at points, though, so faster movement and smaller levels could've added a good bit more action to the game - and more opportunities to use your weapon!

The art was brilliant, and the backgrounds all looked perfect as the internals of a body, so great job on them! The enemies looked positively terrifying as well, and the lighting effects of the flames helped make the game look just that bit nicer. The use of darkness and a flashlight helped fit the horror theme of the game as well, as did the background noises. The heartbeat especially added to the ambience of it all.

This was a nice, spooky entry to the jam, and I found it a lot of fun - nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

was pretty fun to go around and find stuff but after about 10 minutes in it was starting to get repetitive would be nice to have a run button.

I like how the player speed was reduced as the heat went down. I kept lighting my self on fire in some areas.

sadly this is far as I got since the game froze on me

Developer(+1)

Oh no! It appears you actually got frozen at the ending haha, Agreed that more diversity in gameplay would be a great addition, new enemy types and smaller more dynamic levels are definitely in the bill. Glad you enjoyed it!

Jam HostSubmitted(+1)

Great job, I love this! The fire effect was spectacular and the atmosphere of traversing the dimly lit body with the heartbeat pounding was very eerie in the best way. RIP Spleen indeed.

Developer

Thank you!! Spleen will be missed ;_;

Pretty straight forward game. Love the concept and atmosphere. After some time, the enemy stop spawning so am lost on what to do.

Developer

Thank you! Enemies don't respawn in levels, could definitely use more direction to illustrate when a level is complete. Goal in current version is to clear both lungs and the heart in order to reach final level in the brain.

Secret horror game? The heartbeat and the breathing and the darkness and enemy sounds...

Love how you've used a bacteriophage as the enemy. I love the cute dialog of our little white blood cell protaganist ("the left lung. my favourite"). Did you use Darkwood as inspiration?

Unfortunately I couldn't get far, this was funnily enough too much for me to handle.

Developer

Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed the bit you were able to get through. Funnily enough the dialogue was all just thrown in 30 minutes before submission, glad it panned out well. Haven't actually seen Darkwood but it certainly looks like something I should go play after this project!

I had fun playing this! There were lot of places, but because the player moved so slow it was bit tedious to go through all of them. But it wouldn't have the same atmosphere if player could move faster and the atmosphere was really great. Spiders were well done I liked them. I had some problem with audio, I'm not sure if it was just my headphones, but I got this crackling sound in the middle of the game. Levels looked really nice, first had some problem to understand where I can move and where I can't. Overall really well done game, great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah, it seemed like everyone had some problems with audio in the webgl games unfortunately, hopefully I can learn to address that in future jams/versions. The speed was actually a hot topic for us in development, thinking that making the world a bit denser while keeping speed low may be the solution there (hard to keep the ambiance with high speed as you mentioned but totally agree on the tediousness). I appreciate the feedback and thanks for playing!

Woow!  So are managing so much with just the one tool at your disposal.  You have to keep from burning yourself, you have to take out the enemies, you have to keep the body warm when it's starting to get a chill, but you also have to avoid giving the body a fever by overusing your weapon all at once.  And my goodness, using images of the human body interior as the level design was so intriguing.  Very nicely done.  The dialog is quite fun too, as is the pace and the spooky atmosphere!

Developer(+1)

Much appreciated! Glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for playing :)

Great spooky vibe and atmosphere for the game! The lonely atmosphere and heartbeat adds a lot. It took me a while to realize I was damaging myself with the flames, but overall great job!

Developer

Much appreciated! Thank you for playing :)

I love the take on being a white blood cell fighting a virus. The art looked amazing especially the background.  Unfortunately I didn't make it that far as I found it very easy to set myself on fire. I will probably come back to finish this.

Developer

Thank you! I hope you do get back to it, the levels all have body function and temperature related effects :)

Submitted(+1)

This looks like it has been a massive undertaking. Well done for that. My only criticism would be that the game needs a bit more feedback on what's going on (since no one reads the itch page before they start playing lol), both in terms of mechanics and visuals (sometimes it's hard to figure out where to go). Speaking of visuals though, there artwork is great! Overall, great job.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah, was definitely a big project for us so very glad we were able to finish it. Totally agreed on explanations, wanted it to be exploration heavy but could've done a better job guiding players and encouraging it rather than leaving open space. Appreciate the feedback and thank you for playing :)

Great take on the theme and good use of a spooky vibe, those viruses creeped me out! The writing was also good, though a bit hard to read sometimes with everything going on in the screen.

I encountered an issue with when using the flamethrower I dropped a lot of frames, and sometimes the sound would bug out a bit and I'd get some harsh white noise. Otherwise, great game!

Submitted(+1)

Also I forgot to mention, great setting. Acting as a white blood cell in a body makes the game stand out in a great way!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. It's my first time doing a webgl build so don't think I optimized the flamethrower properly, uses particle collision which worked great on the .exe but have definitely seen issues on weaker systems now that we've been testing a bit.

Yeah this is on my laptop so not the most powerful machine by any standard. I think WebGL also limits the amount of RAM it can access in a very weird system where it will gradually increase the RAM it allows as it needs it but very slowly. I totally get your woes, I had to reupload my game 9 times (yes 9) due to issues introduced during conversion to WebGL.

Developer

That explains it! Yeah same, it took me awhile to realize what was going on with my build and turns out I was having some error related to compression so just have to turn it off entirely. Live and learn haha

Submitted(+1)

Very interesting.  I like the overall feel of the game, though it was a bit lonely. I found myself wandering around the whole time looking for an enemy.  Nevertheless, very cool (or hot)!

Developer

Thank you! Loneliness was intentional but I appreciate the comment on looking for enemies. Tried to create a "chirp" system for them to make sounds randomly during idle to help direct players but don't think it ever got implemented. Definitely a next update :)

This is a very interesting and unique concept but the actual gameplay experience left me rather confused and frustrated. The character moves rather slow, it is often hard to discern where you can and can't go. The game lagged pretty badly whenever I used the flamethrower (which might be an issue on my part) and it was hard to tell when the flamethrower hit something or what it could even interact with. The one thing that ultimately caused me to quit is when the temperature would suddenly start dropping rapidly in some places and I couldn't tell what caused it or how to stop it, which ended with me dying and respawning repeatedly.

It's a shame because you obviously put a lot of work into this and the art is quite nice but I just didn't manage to get a grasp of the mechanics at all.

Developer

Thanks for the comment Haunted! I'm sorry you had a rough experience, the flamethrower issue is probably a systems requirement issue, had a number of people test on different PC's but unfortunately can't ensure requirements for a project at this scale.

To address the big one, the temperature drops when enemies are around, multiplicatively. If there are more enemies, the temperature drops more quickly. You can heat up very quickly with the flamethrower, just watch not to get too hot :). Definitely think the game could have used a more formal tutorial, going to outline some key mechanics in the description to help future players.

Definitely interested to hear what was going on with the flamethrower, if you were having bad lag spikes it may have been interfering with collision which is very unfortunate. Thanks again for playing!
