I love a good dungeon adventure and this did not disappoint. Your expertise shows with the 3D environment, titular lantern, small cinematic details, and the UI.
Nicely done.
Wow, this is amazing. The swinging of the lantern felt so smooth, can't get tired of it.
I had a few bugs that kinda ruined the immersion, but for sure I know this can be polished, tweaked and balanced. Oh, and in order not to fall of the rock bridges, I felt much confident using a controller, while for aiming it is the mouse that I prefer. I would try to find the balance in that.
Really great prototype which I look forward to see be updated :D
You're right about the moving with controller being better and aiming with mouse being better. I think I will adopt control schemes found in other games to smooth out the disconnect between the two input methods.
Thanks for playing!
This is so cool! Love the art and especially that flail fire staff thing!
So satisfying to bounce it around. Did you make all the animations and assets yourself? They are amazing! They fit so well together and blend seamlessly!
My only criticism would be that I feel the strikes should have slightly more weight to them. I personally prefer combat that doesn't slow down movement, but if you do want to make it come at a cost of movement and agility, it should have a bigger punch and weight when you do it.
All in all great game! :D
Good job!
Thanks a bunch, I created the character models / environments / textures / VFX myself, the animations are from some Unity asset store packages listed in the credits. You're right, adding more visual punch and juice for impacts is high on the priority list!
Do not abandon this, you have a winner on your hand here if you release this on all platforms especially mobile.
really cool game. Its amazing what you achived in this short time period!
I like this reminds me of the last few games I have played through recently that a lot of people in the comments have said already. I was getting confused with controls because I was playing without a controller so that took some time to figure out. I also had something weird happen after killing an enemy I got stuck on their body for a bit but I managed to escape thankfully. The other thing too is I had to force close the game I think an options menu would be a great add. The feel of the game is nice and I like the atmosphere. The one thing that took me out of it was when the audio would either loop or it was just cutting out on my end. I think this concept has a ton of potential to become a full game!
Thanks for putting up with the messy controls and bugs, you're right there's a lot to iron out in all areas. I will be putting out an updated version after the game jam ends so hope your experience will improve then if you're willing to give it another go!
awesome I look forward to it. I plan on doing the same for mine. Got some work to do to make it better. Our brains are expanding.
I could only play the cursed WebGL version but this was a nice concept and could see it expand! Great stuff and impressive work within the time.
Clearly this is a prototype for a fully-fledged game, so I hope you keep expanding on it.
I really enjoyed the mechanics and atmosphere here.
My only suggestions are some quality of life stuff, like being able to cancel your lantern at any time.
We talked on discord, so I don't have anything to say here :)
Damn super good looking game, makes me think of Ashen. One could forget this was made for a game jam! Level design is nice, I really like that you included secrets. I wish it didn't have permadeath though, that ultimately prevented me finishing it, which is a shame cause I wanted to collect all the lost relics! If there weren't 400 other potential games to play I'd have put a bit more time in for sure. It feels only a few steps of polish away from actually being a "real game". Amazing work! :)
Great vibes for sure.
Really good art design! It reminded me of Death's Door and Ashen in that department, and that's really good. Also very polished for a jam game I might add :D
Well you perfectly sniped my inspirations! Thanks for playing ~
The cover art, character and mood is all a great addition to the core lantern mechanic. Overall a great sample of what could be an impressive full-featured game. Best of luck if you decide to develop it further :D
This game is really polished and competent for a jam game. My only gripe is that I don't think permadeath and resetting back to the start is appropriate for this game, since it's kind of a series of distinct puzzles more than anything else. I would've appreciated checkpoints, especially considering there are hidden bonuses that incentivize the player to take risks going around blind corners and such. It seems a little harsh to ask players to go over there after a bunch of puzzles and then send them back to the start when they fall.
Thanks for the comment, I definitely agree with you about the permadeath, it would have been the last thing to make it in if I had just a few more minutes of dev time haha, sorry about that!
my friends says this game is called Eterna Lantern but if you ask me I called it Eternal Antern
Rated by 5? Is that it haha, this game deserves more!
I can't believe you managed to do all this within the time, that's amazing! Some of the game design here was really awesome in my opinion :)
Visuals were awesome too!
Couple things:
1. I don't like the ladder snapping, I feel there should be an interaction button.
2. The movement felt a little odd, I feel maybe adjusting the acceleration or deceleration may work? I'm not entirely sure what it was but it felt a tad off to me.
Overall an amazing entry!
Nice work, The visuals are pretty great and the chain weapon is awesome!
Nice game. Bouncing projectile puzzles are fun. Good fantasy/medieval atmosphere made me interested to see some lore.
Nice job ! I don't have the webGl curse, so it was fun !
