Very nice concept!! I included it in my Love Jam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Mechanics of this game is interesting, though the slap range feels a little short. I like how player has  more time as enemies are slapped and the hall all of them waiting to enter arena.

Lots of fun and very addicting! I got to 10 but i’ll play it more later and see where i can get.

i somehow managed to get out of bounds

I have heard of this occurring! I see it happen to enemies, but not with the player - I wonder if it's the same thing.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll fix it in the game jam entry, but if I build this out, I'll make sure to fix it then.

Oo I like how it ramped up in difficulty slowly over time. Nice job on your game!

Neat game mechanic! Well done!

Hey everyone! Uploaded a version which shouldn't error when you click "Play Again" on the game over screen, however, I removed the .exe file, as reading the wiki, it didn't seem like it should work, so I didn't want to inconvenience anyone :)

Love it! The mechanic is quite novel and led to some interesting choices. It was fun watching the clock to see how much time each color had, and planning where to position yourself to be the safest. The simplicity and completeness of this is fantastic, but I would have liked to more elements supporting the core loop.

Clever - nice game feels, nice design.

The feel of this game is great! The rhythmic ticking combined, the synced screen shake and clock and the animation of the contestants in the queue really work.

To me it seems like the player doesn't have very much agency. Dying usually seems inevitable, even when I successfully slap everyone in reach for a few turns. Maybe I just couldn't find a good strategy though. I also died a few times because I slapped in the wrong direction, but that one is completely on me :)

It would be interesting to see what this looks like with different time slices. Like only one or a few colors moving each turn or something like that.

I also ran into the same crash squak did. I think it happened when trying to restart the game. (stack trace)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comment! And yeah, there were so many different avenues I couldn't explore in the time allotted, but would like to in the future - for example, each slice is one toon, however you can have multiple toons with the same colour, so you'd have to remember, say, which green toon was moving next. I wanted to see if that, or the idea that all green move on their tick would work better, or if there were powerups to slow down the clock, etc.

Great comment on agency, though. I think if I build this out, perhaps multiple game modes? Certain powerups? Different types of player? All things to explore when you have the time to build it out.

Thanks for giving me stuff to think about, and glad you played :)

Developer(+1)

As for the crash, I think it's related to specific colours of enemies, or is a race of some description. I'm no big fan of the code I produced, which makes debugging hard, but I'll definitely try to push out a fix as soon as I can

You nailed it! That mechanic is really good, the collisions are a little unforgiving but the rest works really well, specially the timing and the waves.

I really enjoyed the simple graphics and the small screenshake. How you change colors to signal the turns and how each entity has their own color you can easily tell which one will move.

The music is very good and the sound is simple enough yet punchy so I think you did really well there. It turns a little repetitive but well I played like 10 times so I think that may be normal? haha.

With my top score of 20 I hope that I get a prize or something haha. Glad you made this great game for the LÖVE Jam! Have fun playing and rating.

I like the idea, it's fun to play!

Would make a good multiplayer game.

Awesome idea. I'd love to see this turned into a multiplayer party game.

Cool concept, very hard xD but so addictive! I like the color scheme <3

Error: lib/colour.lua:22: bad argument #1 to 'ipairs' (table expected, got nil)

I was able to play before this though, and the concept was super fun! Great idea and great execution.

ah! That's unfortunate, +7 encountered the same bug - I think I know what it is, so I'll fix it after work!
