Very enjoyable game. The feeling of being bigger and bigger and being able to destroy bigger and bigger blocks is so satisfying!

Developer

Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

The progression system is highly visual (size based), and the abilities are very satisfying (love the area where you unlock the bounce up and smash everything).
Great level design where you never soft lock. Color pallet is pleasing.

Some areas for polish: the jump sound effect is a bit too sharp, had to turn volume down after a few min. It seems like the "bounce up" effect goes to varying heights based on how well you time the jump. Players may get confused by this, so it may make sense to make it always give a fixed height jump.

Overall my favorite game played here yet!

Developer

Wow, thank you so much for your kind words! I definitely intend to change the jump sound, it is not my favorite either... And I hope to do a better job of communicating how the rebound mechanic works in the future.

The thing that I was pleasantly surprised with in this game was that it's well-designed enough that you will never be softlocked by getting stuck in a gap too small to get through. If you get too big for a previously accessible passage, you always get another path to escape. It's really cool and shows that the game was carefully tested. I also loved the rebound mechanic. Overall great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! Yeah, ensuring that you never get stuck was certainly more difficult than I thought it would be, it took a lot of play-testing and careful level design. I'm glad you noticed the effort put into it!

Great game. It's initially simple design in appearance, quickly became quite ingenious. I love the idea of the ball growing and powering you up, but restricting movement backwards at times. To begin with, the movement when landing on the platform seemed a bit ...  I don't know ... unresponsive or sluggish, but when I got used to it, I loved how you can stick to the platform and "climb" up the edge instead of fall off.

Nice choice of music. It suits the game. Reminds me a bit of the "Unravelled" soundtrack.

It is a pleasant twist on the Metroidvania genre, and I think it would be well worth developing it further. Great work.

(I did get stuck at one point, when the ball was quite large, and the camera zoomed back to show the whole room, but I went out a door off the side and the camera didn't follow. It was below the room where the Breakout mechanic was implemented I think.)

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I am working on identifying the camera bug, and will definitely have a fix for it in a post-jam update.

Awesome idea ! The concept is simple to control but lot of possibility an excellent game design job.

The game got laggy for me when i entered the area with larger view and i think i got soft lock in this area (maybe i just didn't found how to get out without reaching size 3).

This game as some potential of being a cool little metroidvania.

Congrats !

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I think I didn't do the best job of explaining how the Rebound ability works, so that might be why you got stuck. It adds the force you hit the ground with to your next jump, so you can use it in successive jumps to gain more height and get out of the large pit area. I want to try to add a little animation tip when you pick up the ability, which I hope will explain this better than the short piece of text. Thanks again!

What a unique entry! I had a blast playing through this. It did take a bit for me to get comfortable with the controls. I think more consistency in the jump height would help there, but it never got frustrating.

One minor note is that I bugged out the audio a bit by spamming jump and ground pound. It seemed like the sound effects entered a queue, so instead of the sounds overlapping or cutting each other off, they continued to play for several seconds after I was no longer jumping or ground pounding. Not at all game breaking, but I figure you might appreciate the info.

I'm jealous of the level of creativity and polish that went into this entry. Great job!

Developer

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words! I did implement a queue for the sound, as cutting the sounds off had sounded strange, but having a backlog of sounds several seconds after the action is definitely not ideal, so I will reevaluate and see how to better improve this. Thanks!

What a wonderfully engaging game! Excellent control scheme, it felt very very intuitive and I was easily able to grasp mechanics.

-The way you taught the player mechanics was great. Once I grasped these basic controls, I easily navigated the world you built. Seriously, great job there.

-The OST was solid and very engaging but not overpowering

-Cannot commend enough how accessible this game is. I feel like any gamer regardless of experience can play this game. Great work!!!

Developer(+1)

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words! After getting the feedback that my previous games were too difficult, I wanted to really focus on communicating to the player what to do and removing any barrier of entry. So I am glad that paid off and is getting noticed!

This was so good, very minimalist but also super engaging. Bouncing the ball for extra height felt so good, and smashing into things - the slow down, the screen shake, the sfx - was super satisfying. I've always loved the idea of a one room Metroidvania, and using the theme so cleverly like this somehow allowed you to make a 4-in-1 room Metroidvania. Also I'm sure it's been said, but just the best Katamari vibes from this particular mechanic.

Areas where I struggled:

- the orbs to eat could be hard to see against some of the lighter backgrounds (low value contrast)

- minor nitpick, but the usage of dice pips felt super cool and playful, but I wish the four dot blocks used a standard four pip layout to more easily differentiate their shape from a three dot block.

- Not so much a struggle as a bug, I shot myself up to the top to get the final dot to eat to get to the final growth  level, but from here I was able to roll off the edge of the screen which effectively ends the game. Just a collider or something at the edges of the screen will solve it.

But yeah, this was fantastic. Felt great to play, looked great with simple art but some really cool lighting and visual effects to supplement it, and just an overall simplicity that I really enjoyed. Great job!

Developer

Wow, thank you so much for the feedback! I will definitely try to incorporate all of these changes into a post-jam update!

Submitted(+1)

Very Very sweet. Bouncing around and smashing stuff are indeed extremelly satisfying, and just really fun the entire time.
The game is essentially as simple as the artstyle tho. It's great, don't get me wrong, it's soft and tasty, but I just have nothing to say about it at the end, honestly.

I guess only real comment I have is that the jumping sound effect is a little annoying, especially considering I was constantly bouncing and rebounding the entire time, but it's survivable.

I also have to say that the resolution is a little weird, since it looked like this on my web, it just didn't cover the entire screen, but no worries this wasn't really impactfull on the game itself anyway x)

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Yeah, sound design is still something I need to work on, sourcing free sounds is only getting me so far, so I should probably learn the creation part of things. And I'll see what I can do about resolution. I had it at a fixed resolution so that I could ensure it always shows up as I intend, but it is definitely not the most visually appealing size.

This is a lovely game... stylistically simple... and simple in "concept" but the level design is fantastic and the implementation as absolutely top notch... possibly a little one note to be any longer... but as it was it was the perfect length and felt very satisfying to get to the end"

Really clever and well done entry!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Yeah, I never would have made a bigger game out of this, but I thought it would be perfect for a little jam game.

Submitted(+1)

I was actually very pleasantly surprised by this game! Visuals - while simple - get the job done and audio side is very well selected for the game. Only small issue would be stacking block breaking sound being a bit jarring at times, but it's really minor. Map design is top notch honestly, at no point I felt lost, there were moments where I felt like I outsmarted the game by getting stuck, only to be proven wrong by giving me new abilities. Camera felt a bit wonky at times i felt, can't quite pinpoint why, I think maybe because those zoomed out sections felt nice and the going back to the cramped beginning wasn't as satisfying.
Also, that ending hit different, I felt it in my heart. Great game! :D

Developer(+1)

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words! There are definitely still some issues to iron out with the camera, so I will keep working on that. I'm really glad you liked the ending!

Submitted(+1)

This is a great little game.  The level design and mechanics are all tight. The game also isn't too long, which makes it fun to run through. Using the continual growing as the theme fit quite well.

I don't have too much else to say besides some laggyness towards the middle of the game.

Great job!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

Amazing game! Really creative and a great usage of the theme. Was a bit laggy but that's probably just web build being web build.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I'll take a more active look at the performance to see if I can improve the lag.

Visuals are simple, but the complements the puzzle nature of the game. It's very rewarding to see the world and options expand as the orb fella does. There are a couple typical upgraeds, the ground pound and rebound, but most of the expansion options relate to the player's size. Unique in that some previous paths get blocked off due to this, and the player needs to find other ways to get around.

Overall, one of my favorites in this jam. Doesn't overstay its welcome, has a fun central mechanic that is heavily tied to the theme, and the ending sequence was satisfying.

Developer

Wow, thank you so much for your kind words :)

Submitted(+1)

It's fun, and fits the theme well! Very well done! It's cool to break things by bouncing around.

I did have an issue where I could go off screen and the camera wouldn't follow me anymore, so I couldn't see what I was doing and it was hard to continue. Here I am just before completely disappearing:

It happened in specific places, and if I just continued off screen and bounced around a bit it sometimes fixed itself.

Developer

Oh darn, I did have some camera bugs, but I thought i had gotten them all fixed. I will take note of this and try to fix it in the future. Thanks so much for playing and finding this issue!

Submitted(+1)

Great game, simple graphics and mechanics, but super intuitive :) Although i managed to get stuck in this position :D

Developer

Oh wow, that is a new one! I'll see what I can do to fix it for the future. Thanks so much for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Simple mechanic but very creative and very fun to play once you get the hang up. I especially like the ground pound rebound move. Feels really fun to mess around with.

Visuals are simple but with the shadows and choice of atmospheric music, it works nicely. Arguablythe simplistic visuals help better with clearly communicating the puzzle aspects of the game.

Nice game.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing ! Yeah, visuals are not my strong suit, so I try to keep it simple and minimalist.

Submitted(+1)

Pretty solid and simple game! You also kept to your chosen theme really well. My only criticism is that rebounding in succession can add to your height is not explicitly mentioned. I discovered it purely by accident. Great job!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Yeah, I was hoping to animate the little tip windows to show this ability, but just ran out of time. Hopefully I will be able to add that in the future.

Submitted(+1)

Super simple and clear! I got stuck a little but this was fun and interesting. nice work!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I could give you some pointers if you want to get farther. I know one thing that I needed to do a better job of communicating is that the rebound ability compounds, it is based on the downward force when you hit the ground, so you can get more height from repeated bounces.

Submitted(+1)

Cool idea! It was laggy on my computer, but then again... it's a mac laptop running like 20 chrome tabs ;>.>
I loved the sounds, the feel of the game, all that sort of thing. I figure if it ran smoothly it would feel good to play! I liked how you could kinda roll up over edges, too. It made the platforming forgiving.
Reminds me of Katamari Damacy (Bit of a stretch, but still).

Developer

Thanks so much! Katamari Damacy was indeed one of the game's inspirations. I'm sorry to hear the game was laggy, I will look into the performance more to see if I can improve this.
