story: The demon behind the portal tries to tear it open (by doing sacrifices), it can be slowed bu not stoped. I mean ... you're attacking a portal between worlds with a sword, what did you expect ?

It's short and simple, but very atmospheric. The presentation is really good with the intro/outro, color palette and the tentacle animation. The music is also very fitting. Very well done!
i really liked this game. its a nice short simple game that is executed well. it has good art and music that doesnt become grating to the ears. i will say that the spikes on the wall were not immediatly obvious to me so i spent a couple minutes just throwing people back where they came from. i was expecting bigger waves to come and id eventually lose but the endng that actually happens was much more intersting then that even if it is somewhat arguable that it isnt strickly confroming to the limitation.
Thanks for the feedback !
The problem i saw while testing bigger wave was that you would have to go to the more efficient way to get rid of the attackers. With only a few, you can do what you want because you have time for it, you can toy with them by wipping the floor with them, you can launch them anywhere, you can enjoy the evisceration animation. It's not the most fun, but hey :)
My reasoning for the limitation is the following: It's not specified what will fail inevitably. Here we have to opposing actions, the tentacle demon trying to open the portal & the attackers trying to close it. For one of them, failure is inevitable. I mean you can't get any dumber than trying to close a doorway between world by hitting it with your sword. So, here, the limitation also comes with "success is inevitable", and the player is not on the losing side x)
The game is extremely good for a game made in 3 days. The art style is incredible and the intro is flawless. Pretty short but it's fun. It took a while to figure out what to do so you should tell the player what to do in the description. Also wish you added health, other than that, great game! :D
Wow, this game is incredible, very short but perfect, it was hard for me to understand at first but the mechanics are super simple and super original, I love the effort you put into the graphics and the atmosphere of the game, congratulations, very good game !
The game looks and sounds really cool, but It took me a while to know what was happening
Im still confused what the people were doing. They looked like they were attacking, but I ended up getting to the end by ignoring them
Thanks for playing!
wouldn't you try to attack with your trusty sword a portal that opened in your basement , with tentacles going through trying to murder you in order to create a sacrifice ? ... no ?
But yeah you can completely ignore a few of them, they reduce your progress once every 2 second, IF they manage to get in range. It's not easy as i screwed up their movement script, they and up going slower and slower the closer they are.
Definitely eye catching effects on the visuals. Music's pretty moody too.
I wasn't sure what the objective of the game was. Even when I uh.. "emptied" the attackers into the chalices the contents just disappeared a few seconds after being filled.
The art is just WOW, amazing job on the presentation side of thing, this is one of the best submissions I have seen in while, but, constructively speaking, the gameplay does indeed need to be more engaging.
Regardless, Bravo on a very good submission and the work done in only 3 days.
The look of the game is amazing and the concept was pretty good too, although it could have used some more enemies , everything else was fantastic. Good job.
Wow the visuals of this game are so cool! I guess the tentacles use inverse kinematics, and then some fancy shaders to add the lighting and make the pixel art effect? It was really cool in any case. It's just a shame that there's not much to the game itself - it took me a while to work out what to do with the people attacking the portal, and even when I let them hit the portal for a while it seemed to not do anything. I guess the failure really was inevitable then? But the art and sound did really carry the game well, it might have been the coolest looking jam game I've ever seen.
Thanks!
The tentacle indeed uses IK targets. For the visual, i used a 2 camera setup: The secondary camera records everything except UI (lighting, sprites) onto a render texture. I then use a shader to sample the final color with this render texture, the final result is displayed by the main camera.
I tried to improve a bit on the visual aspect for once so the actual game content is "a bit" lacking.
Ennemi attacks do have an effect: they reduce your progress, but they cant make you loose.
