Team members
Kuma and DroknT worked on this game as team "r4cc00n5". I, Kuma, initiated the project and greatly thanks DroknT for sharing his time and knowledge with a young programmer like me. Thanks also to Nears for providing the voice on the menu ! :)

Software used
GameMaker

Use of the limitation
The “no green” limitation is mainly visual here. With the "Earth" theme of the 116th Mini Jam, I wanted to create a game oriented towards "nature, fauna and flora". Obviously, many elements were logically green (trees, grass, frog...). With the limitation, I found it interesting to use landscapes and characters usually represented in green, but with a modification of the colors with an autumnal twilight colorimetry. Finally, the game represents the "nature, fauna and flora" aspect but without using a single green pixel.

Cookies eaten
No cookies but unfortunately too many M&M's and caramelized scrunchies...

I like that you made a multiplayer game! I don't have anyone to play with so it's a bit difficult for me to assess how fun it is, but I can see how it could be fun lol. The vibe reminded me a bit of Smash Bros and Jump King put together.

I think it would be cool to have an indication that the frog is charging up his jump - for example, the frog quickly crouches down a bit (unless this was a deliberate design choice to keep the charge hidden from the opponent)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for this kind feedback ! Actually, there is a charging bar when you press "Z" on AZERTY keyboard but there's a bug that make this bar invisible when you're on QWERTY keyboard... This bug is fixed in patch 1.1, available in the last downloadable version of the game (I am keeping the browser version in version 1.0 until the end of the jam) ! :)

unfortunately i have no friends, but they game is still cool i liked that it was different and the fighting mechanic is a goomba stomp which i thought was pretty cool. great game!

Developer

Thanks a lot ! :)

- Sorry my internet stuttered and I sent the comment below twice :D.

Nice concept! Needs to bring my friend to get the most out of the gameplay. The game is fun. Maybe adding some events and power ups will make it even more fun. Nice Work!

Developer

Glad you liked it ! ❤️

Cute game and concept! I didn’t have anyone to play with though, so I was controlling two frogs on my own. Does the tongue do anything or is it just purely visuals? I spent some time trying to hit the other frog with the tongue without jumping so close that I despawned them, but it didn’t look like the tongue did anything. Also, as others have reported, I ran into the teleport bug and the charge not appearing over the blue frog’s head.

Developer

Hello and thank you for this kind feedback! The tongue sticking is purely fun, like an "emote", I would like to add it to a new mechanic later! :) Regarding the bugs, that of the "blue loading bar" for the QWERTY keyboard was resolved in patch 1.1 of the downloadable version of the game (I am keeping the browser version in version 1.0 until the end of the jam). The teleportation bug is being fixed!

Love the art and gameplay. It’s really fun

Developer

Thanks !

pretty cool concept for a jam game, love the simplicity of it... not sure if intentional but i could stand on the  edge of the screen and teleport to the other side. ( ๑ ˃̵ᴗ˂̵)و ♡

This bug was also reported by other people, I will fix it in a future patch! Thank you very much for these kind words! ❤️

A very cohesive game, the art and music choices melded very well together. The color palette was nice but I think the color of the jump meter/bar was hard to see due to them being similar. Great submission.

Developer

Thank you for this very kind and interesting feedback!

Awesome art, and enjoyable gameplay with my gf! I didn't see the jump-charge meter above the blue frog's head though, I will say. I haven't seen many games in this jam made in GameMaker, so that's super cool, too! Excellent entry!

Developer

Thank you very much for this great feedback, I'm glad you liked the game! The “load bar” bug in QWERTY for the blue character will be fixed in the next patch! :)

Very good art, but i think that the level is a little bit flat, and  also the jump feels a little bit strange, but it's a really good concept for a local 1v1 game!!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback ! :)

Fun! I only played by myself but I would like to eventually grab a friend. Lovely art.

The art is absolute gorgeous! The game is fun too, Well done!

I think something that could make the jumps more satisfying and intuitive is to draw a "path" to where the frog would end up, and also a "buildup" sound that would give you an intuition for how long you've held the button.

Developer

Good ideas, thank you!

Submitted(+1)

The art and presentation are really nice. Had to play against myself to rate it but i can definitely see it being really fun with other people, the jump meter is kinda hard to see (and i think the one for the blue frog wasn't showing at all for me?) and i found the controls a bit unintuitive at first but after understanding them the game is pretty cool.

Developer (1 edit)

I will be careful to change the "W" charge problem in a future patch. Thank you for this feedback! :)

Mixing displacement with damage is super smart. I think we've found a little bug: you can pass through the level at the top of the screen, but you can't jump anymore. It's great to see a 2-player game that works fast and well!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the bug feedback, I will fix it for the post-GJ patch. Glad you liked it! :)

I did, pvp games are my dope.

Submitted(+1)

The game is really fun ^^ But the jump gauge is a bit difficult to see and it seems like you can not choose the direction of your jump until you're already in the air 🤔

The art looks awesome ! Congrats for your entry !

Developer(+1)

Some feedback told me that the gauge was indeed not visible enough. Thank you for your message!

Fantastic game! The art and music are excellent.

I also really love the unique control mechanics—my friend and I had to keep charging up and then release at the right moment to try and crush each other.

It really felt like how frogs catch their prey in real life!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for all these lovely words and glad you had fun!

I love the 2 player aspect of the game, and the art is super cool!

Developer

Thanks a lot ! :)

Submitted(+1)

Nice 2 player game. It's hard to find a 2-player game in this jam. So I enjoyed it very much.

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it ! Thanks !

I really loved the visual style for your game, the pixelart is pure genius.
But it's hard for me to see the theme "Earth" in here, as you said it's more about the fauna and nature thing.
But overall a very enjoyable game that I loved!

Developer

After seeing the work of the other participants, I realize that my inspiration for the "earth" theme is a little far from the other productions, I admit. Thank you for your feedback, I'm glad you liked the game! :)

Creative way to utilize "no green" :) Loved the art style.

Developer

Glad you like it ! ❤️
