The art is nice and the gameplay is pretty good, if a bit simple currently. The sprites disappearing when damaged is kind of confusing though.
The speech bubbles don't really work very well currently, as since they're static, it's possible for the player to move and the speech bubbles no longer look correct. The first speech bubble also doesn't seem to be placed correctly relative to the player. I also feel the font doesn't really work with the aesthetic of the game.
The way the cooldown for the items is shown also doesn't really look at home with the theme, and perhaps a more simple way to show the cooldown like a bar that fills might fit better?
They're all very minor aesthetic issues, but I feel improving them will greatly enhance the experience.
Thank you for your great feedback, I agree with all your suggestions and honestly most of them were planned but we just couldnt finish everything on time. We kept working till the last few minutes, unfortunately some bugs escaped us like the bubble not showing correctly if not played in Fullscreen. I think we might polish this after the results come out and incorporate more interactive music based on player danger.
I suspected playing in fullscreen might place the first speech bubble correctly, since I could barely see it when not in fullscreen, but I think it was still in the wrong spot for me, though it might just be my screen's resolution. Fortunately it's a very minor bug so it didn't take too much away from the experience.
I liked how friendly this game felt. It was a delightful short adventure from sound effects to art!
LMAO that ending. I like the art style a lot! The music was very charming as well. The attack option might do better with a different effect than the character disappearing, maybe tearing since they鈥檙e paper. Overall a very cute game! Good job!
oooh the sprite tearing in half is a really good idea! Thank you for the nice feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed the game! ^_^
Very cool art and sound design. I like the boss fight. Combat feels rough, you can't really get to the armored mouse without getting damage. Also, it's a bit weird how most of the sprite edges are smooth, but some are pixelated
Cute game! I like that you can see the notebook pages for the background and the hand drawn artwork is charming. Nice job!
Thank you so much <3
Cool art! I beat the wizard)
Thank you :) glad you enjoyed it!
this looks so beautiful how did you do such an artstyle
Thank you so much! It's all traditionally animated, the sprites are drawn using inks and alcohol markers and the backgrounds are watercolour. I scanned the drawings into my computer then used Krita to create the sprite sheets ^^
I was very excited for this one when I saw it in the Discord and it delivered! Art is absolutely beautiful, sound design was very good too (rare to see one let alone both of these nailed in a jam like this)! I would definitely play a full game with this aesthetic (especially once you introduced the lighting towards the end). The gameplay is solid, feels very classic adventure-y, Legend of Zelda vibes. In a hypothetical full version, I would love to see the combat fleshed out. Tons of potential here. Also, I lol'd when I saw the rat brute just start flailing his arms at me
Aw thank you for such nice feedback! We were lucky to have such 2 really talented guys working on music and sound effects for this one. I'd definitely like to expand on this game in the future! I'm also working on another title using a similar art style at the moment too (a 2.5D narrative game about a cat)
I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
The art is soooo wonderful! I love how you walk through the pages - the art is awesome. The end made me laugh. Would love more polished controls/mechanics.
Super charming fun little demo! Jump/attack/hit reg could all use more polish but its a jam
Interesting ending...
Very cute and fun game. The scenery and style are very good, and the secrets on the bushes are very fun to find. Wish it was longer, though. Good job!
Loved the concept and art style! I beat the game. It was super cute. The little music playing mouse in the bush :鈥橿D The lampposts were a cool bit of scenery too.
Glad you enjoyed it! The mouse in the bush was probably my favourite addition! The idea came from our composer after he'd written the main level theme XD
took alot of time to load but was SO worth the wait, but I think I did the wizard boss fight wrong, I kind a just floated up beside him and spammed attack, and then he died... so... yeah, also, OMG THE ART STYLE IS AMAZING, well done!
Thank you so much! I put a lot of time into the art so I'm really glad you liked it <3
Very cute game, I love the graphics! Also the ending is funny ;)
I can't figure out how to use the green gem or potion:-( And it would be cool if you added more secret areas like with the gem - maybe the player should climb a giant tree or fall into a hole. So there are lots of ways to expand.
Well done!
The items you find are used passively on demand. Potion heals you if when you get hit and your health goes below 50%. The gem prevents you from dying to a killing blow. Both items go in cooldown and their timer would be visible on the icon. I wanted to add this description as a tooltip but didnt have the time 馃榿
It's cute and fun, wish it was a bit longer though.
Good job!
Thank you! If the rest of the team are on board I'd love to make a couple of extra levels for it
