Hey, I loved the concept on this one! Having to manage your dashes to destroy blocks sounds pretty simple, but you made it work really well! The graphics were great too - really had a nice retro feel to it. The music did get a bit repetitive after a while though, but it was still pretty good. Overall, this was a great little game! Excellent work!

Very polished game. I like the art style and retro vibe, great use of the limitation.

Only thing is that maybe to introduce the mechanics one by one more slowly.  But its a minor thing, overall a great game.

Congrats for finishing the Jam!

I love when entries nail the retro aesthetic, and I think this one did it well. I will say the music got a little grating and I had to turn down my volume a little bit, but overall I really liked the presentation. The palette you used was interesting, almost like an improved Gameboy palette.

Just some suggestions: I forgot to read the description and accidentally happened upon the dash button early on, but didn't realize that there are dedicated buttons for dashing left and right, so I thought there was a bug at first. I feel it would be more intuitive to use a single dash button, personally.

Past that, I think it's a good prototype! I assume then you'll be continuing work on it, and I'd be interested to see where it goes.

Clean and pretty - I wish that the mechanics were slowly introduced, instead of all at once. Good game, nice job!

really like the art style, it's honestly one of the best in this jam! you srsly made a really good use of the limitation. the game is very polished too! the music fits the atmosphere really well, but i do think more sound effects wouldve been nice. as you pointed out in the description, yeah, movement is a bit clunky and hard to control. i also pressed W accidentally quite a lot thinking that i would jump instead of dashing. personally i think that W as the key to dash is a bit of a weird choice, but maybe thats just muscle memory(probably cuz in my game i programmed jumping with the W key and dashing with the space bar lol). i got a bit confused with the whole lives/hp thing going on. im pretty sure my lives got stuck at 2 no matter how many times i died. awesome job tho! loved the characters!

Great work! I really enjoyed it, very unique mechanic also the graphics and sound was great. Good work :)!!

Loved your character and concept! When I saw your cover art it felt reminiscent of a pixelated hollow knight! Great Job!

Oh wow thank you!

I'm terrible at platformers, so this took way longer than it should have. My friends and I suggest the head lower like a bull when you charge. Also, the way the music changes with your character's speed was a nice touch! Overall, well done!

Developer

I like that idea of the head lowering, thanks for that suggestion :)

Really cool palette used, and cute animations too

Developer

Thank you!

Love the art, really nice job. I was happy to see that you are moving the dash controls.

Developer

Thank you! Yeah I was making it over-complicated. :/

The color palette and graphics gave the game a great look! I would've liked the movement to be a bit more snappy, but it was cool to explore the level. Love the art style!

Developer

Thanks!

I liked the idea of making a dash to destroy the walls. The controls have worked correctly for me.
But as you have been told, it would be better if the dash was in a single button.

Developer

Definitely will be fixing the controls ASAP :D

A fairly interesting platformer - my immediate question is, does the game take place underwater? The controls were so floaty on my computer that the game was basically a rage game and I couldn't complete it. I know you said its based on Super Mario physics which are a slide-y, but this was too much for my taste. I liked the idea of dashing through blocks although I would have assigned the dash to one button rather than making you press the direction key and the dash key. In terms of presentation, the art was mostly quite good actually! I liked the tiles but I wasn't super clear on the difference between coins and charges, especially as there was no real tutorial. The player animation was a little weird but I get that not everyone is an artist and animations are hard. Finally, I do have to ask, aren't you using 6 colours? I count 5 in the game and then also the darker blue for the "header" part of the HUD. I won't rate you down too much for that because its obvious you attempted the theme and that just slipped your attention. Overall great job!

I'm hearing that the controls are different for everyone that has played the game. I'm not sure what is going on, whether it be in the coding on my end or the way different machines process the controls.  It does not take place underwater. The jumping is supposed to be floaty enough to change direction in mid air. With the dashing, I was trying to set up the controls like how it works in Mega Man X. I believe I will follow your suggestion and change it to a 1 button action in the future. I know there are a lot of issues with this game, I was in a a rush to get something together for the jam submission. I had 8-9 hours of total time put into the development. I'm thinking now that I should have just backed out of the jam, but also I'm trying to make a habit of completing jam projects. The header for the UI was a huge oversight on my part, it was supposed to be a lighter bluish-gray that you can see on the characters outline. Thank you for your kind words and suggestions. It is greatly appreciated.

I don't think you should of backed out at all, the game turned out really well considering the time restrictions and its always good to have a finished game. That's more than most other "game developers" can say.

Developer(+1)

I just made some small updates based on your original comment. I will do more work on the controls at a later time. And thank you, your comment to not back out is a huge encouragement for future jams!

Couldnt figure out the controls :( Stuck on first level

Developer

Working on it, was in a rush to submit. Check jam page in a few.
