The minimalistic approach to the art asset really makes this game stand out even more! This is one of the few games that I have rated highly. Music is so soothing and fits the game so well. sound effects are a little too loud, but hey, I have the same problem in my game too XD!

Also, the introduction to story plot at first felt so professional for me, that won me over in just a glance ( I'm unable for stuff like that, yet)

Thank you! I REALLY ENJOYED THE GAME!

Developer

Thanks! Yeah... Sound effect balancing is always an issue for me. I try to pull up some references and slide volumes up and down, but I never get it right...

Thank you! AND I REALLY ENJOYED YOUR COMMENT! :P

I can tell you put a lot of polish into this. The effects for this rocket, the planet cores, the background, etc, they were all very nice. I thought the story was pretty well written. The game wasn't too challenging but I had a lot of fun playing it. And of course, the save/load system was a nice touch.

Thanks for playing it and letting me watch! :D

Delightful, I love the writing, the game design, and I think it's worth expanding on for sure. Maybe could have used a couple more puzzly mechanics and a bit of atmosphere or variety on the planets but I loved it!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you very much Aly! I totally agree that more mechanics such as different types of soil which are either easier or harder to drill through would have been some great additions... Also different looking planets would have been really cool... Alas, I shall blame time-constraints! ;)

Awesome game! I really enjoyed it alot. I liked the story, very relaxing sound and a fun mechanics.

Thanks! Great to hear (or read because this is the internet after all). :)

Wonderful game! I would pick up a copy of this if it was a full commercial release!

Thank you! Oh dear, time to add a 100$ price tag ;)

Wow ;) , I didn´t know that there was a rocket haha >_<

There were different spaceships in the pack! They just weren't big enough at all! So this one is made by stitching together a lot of parts from other sprites in the pack ;)

Visuals are really nice. I like the minimalistic stars in the background and the space travel scene. Planet graphics are cool as well. Quite like the animations, especially when you exit to the surface. Tunnelling effect is well done.

sfx and music are nice but sometimes feel like they don't mesh well, since some sfx are chiptune, some are realistic, and the music is hidef as well.

Story is simple and cute and adds to the game.

Gameplay takes a bit to get used to. I ended up losing a lot of early levels by pressing the wrong button too soon. Also there's a bug where if you press to move right before a tutorial dialog appears you will immediately go to the surface and lose as soon as the dialog disappears. The landing sequence on each planet is nice the first time but gets annoying after you die and have to restart and just want to start playing the game. Once you get used to it it is fun to figure out an optimal strategy for each planet; also appreciate the dotted line that appears as you change height, definitely makes it more intuitive to play.

One thing I'd suggest is making it more clear how much integrity a planet has. I like the mechanic as it adds strategy but every planet has the same size bar and you have no idea how fast it will go down until you start playing, requiring you to kind of trial and error levels the first time.

Overall pretty solid entry, I'd say it does best in terms of polish and visuals but needs more on the engagement side

Developer

Thank you!

Yeah I agree that the 8-bit and realistic sounds don't mix together too well. I'd love to have had only 8-bit ones, but I just couldn't get Bfxr to make the sounds I needed. I should probably get better at that...

Oh I was unaware of that bug, thanks for pointing it out to me!  The restarting sequence should indeed be faster or skippable entirely.

The integrity bar being of variable size is also a great idea! For some reason that never came up in me...

I appreciate the honest review! Thanks.

Great Game loved it!  Unfortunately could not make it past what I presume is the last planet.  Overall great game loved the story mixed in with the game play.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

If you do decide to try again, the game autosaves after every level, so you wouldn't have to do all previous levels again. Also, if you die a few times, the time you get for that planet secretly gets a little longer, so even if you don't find the perfect solution, you'll get there eventually! Oh and there's also a full playthrough video on youtube linked in the description of the game page, if you can't be bothered but want to see the ending anyway :P

I love this game, the story is very interesting and I would have never expected someone to create a game with such an interesting backstory in such a short amount of time. I also love the levels they slowly progress in difficulty and are a tutorial by themselves of sort. The music and sound effects are incredibly polished as well as the animations. To be true this doesn't even feel like a game for a game jam anymore. All together this is an amazing game and definitely one of the best I've seen in this game jam and I must say the quality of games in this game jam has been incredible. I've seen so many great games which could be actual full releases just made in 48 hours. I can't say anything more than I'm whole hardheartedly impressed by your skill as well as the skill of the other jammers in this game jam. Well done and I hope you will continue on to create more masterpieces like this one :D.

Developer

Wow, thank you so much! That really means a lot to me! :)

Really cool game! Lots of small quality of life features that make the game feel really good to play. Namely, the dotted circle which lets you know how deep in the planet you are. The gameplay is fun and relaxing, so is the music. The sound design is well done. I think level  6 is bugged because there was no gems for me to collect

Developer

Thanks! Level 6 is not bugged! If you die twice on a level, you get a hint. The hint here is basically: Look very close to the core of the planet! The red gems are in very close proximity to the flaming ball of magma ;)

Developer

Oh also, if you can't figure out the solution on any other levels, a whole gameplay video is online covering all levels, you can find a link in the description of the game's itch.io page.

This looks so cool. I'll definitely play this when I have the time 😃

Developer

You are very welcome to do so! Please let me know what you think, I can handle critique ;)

I just had time and played it. It's really good! The difficulty curve feels good, from a little too easy at the start, to very challenging in the end. I did feel that level 7 was a little more difficult than 8, but meh. Thumbs up!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I can see how  7 is a bit more difficult than 8, but for now I'll leave it as is, as I heard someone got stuck on level 8 specifically :P
