Description
Brainmelt would be a survival game where you have to keep yourself from freezing or starving in the infinite labyrinth of your own brain.

There is a day-night cycle with days slightly shorter than nights.

You have 3 emotions: fear, depression, anger. The intensity of each emotion can be raised by different actions, items or events. If one of them gets too high it will have to discharge, which will give you various buffs/debuffs for a period of time depending on the emotion.

001 maimed menu - this is the title screen bgm
002 deadly daylight - plays during day
003 warm night - plays during night
004 darkroom - plays when discharging fear
005 dream catcher - plays when discharging depression
006 dream hunter - plays when discharging anger
007 bad ending - when you're close to dying the normal music fades out and this track fades in

This was super interesting, I'm always down for some fun creepy horror-ish moments and I really like what you are doing here, and how you chose to express the story! My one feedback is to not push back from being intense, harsher instrumentation, thicker and more chaotic chords, things like that can really help drive that unease off the charts for something like this, so pretty much echoing what foxwings said. This was really cool though overall!

Pretty interesting submission. All of the tracks are pretty eerie which made for a cool experience seeing how each track would develop. My favorite track has to be track 2. It just created a cool feeling of uncertainty.

Overall, this was a decent submission. I think some work can go into the mixing of the drums. Keep it up!

Quite a unique soundtrack. The created atmosphere is very nice, but I believe a bit more variety inside tracks would have made them even more interesting. All in all, good job!

Side note: I believe the Youtube playlist has the tracks in reverse order, as 007 is the first one and 001 is the last one there.

Cool stuff! You create a good atmosphere with these, but I'm not a huge fan of the drums. They're a bit loud and very bassy, and it takes a bit away from the dark and creepy atmosphere the rest of your instruments do very well at making.

I also do agree with some of the previous commenters that it feels a little stagnant. Really it's up to you with stylistic choices, but I think it could have benefitted from some quieter moments and some more intense ones. Even changing up a drum pattern is a good way of accomplishing this - you're 003 track does this quite nicely, and I would've liked to hear more of that.

Again, good work!

These tracks scream puzzle platformer to me. They all are distinct from each other which in my mind really would separate levels/areas. It’s somehow retro and somehow modern. I can imagine being scared during the night. The concept is cool I wish I could see it in action. Great job on this OST!

Day 3 Of Rating Submissions With Few Ratings to Hopefully Get Some in Return

Dang, this is some nasty stuff you cooked up. I can definetely see the conenction to mental health you´re highlighting, with how punishing and opunching the drums are and how unstable a lot of the glitchy textures feel. I am unsure if I enjoyed listening to it, but it definetely made me feel something - and as an artist I know how important that is.

The drums are admittedly a tad loud, however - and very broad sounding. I wish it was easier to make out some of your nice sound design beneath them.

You did a good job with the sound design, each track feels unique in that aspect. I do think some of the tracks feel a little stagnant when they really want to drive. Nice work overall!

Hey nice job, I will say that the feel you've made with the music definitely matches the concepts you're going for i could feel the depression, i could feel the fear, conveying what you want in music is the most important/difficult part IMO.  As for critique, Jofes makes a good point that your instrumentation is very linear, 4 has the most variations, and drive in it, but even there your melody has very little variation in its rhythm. Set your melody, then go back over it and just add some 8th, 16th notes even triplets every other bar in a little run or arpeggio for some variation that won't really mess with the pacing you've set in the OG melody. From a mix standpoint, it always tempting to add that lovely warm bass, but I'd recommend pulling it back a bit on it, as it does over power the few other instruments in there except for 2 where the guitar is the one that's too loud. Mixing is a MF but an important MF. good work over all, keep it up

I like the theme you chose but some of the songs feel very rigid. not a lot of syncopation sometimes and it makes the songs feel basic.

Cool soundtrack, I think #4 is my favorite out of them
