My son has stopped playing Street Fighter 6 and only plays this instead. Apparently "you have to block on their wakeup, it's the opposite of Street Fighter." So there's some meta analysis for you.
Love all the finishing moves! Hard to pick a favourite but for pure shock value the Primeval Mask one wins for me!
Awww, that's Awesome! Yep, when the enemy is knocked down, they can interrupt their recovery at anytime to attack, so guarding is the best strat! It's so cool that he figured that out so quickly!
Btw, we almost have local VS working, so you might get a chance to challenge him soon.
Watching all of the character's finishers is a lot of fun. It's really nice how you managed to implement every character in the game, the models are very accurate and it's really cool that you can play with alll of them. Making a fighting game is not an easy task so it's suprising to see it being delivered here. Good work!
Thank you so much! Once the characters were finished it was a lot of fun to design how they should play. Poor George though, he was just too small to work with the animations XD
Great use of the cast. Loved the variety between characters especially the finishers.
Thanks Balbod! The cast Kyle and chat created was just amazing! Glad you enjoyed the characters as much as we enjoyed making them!
The endings were completely delightful and were some of the hardest I laughed during the jam. Also, really impressive models and animations. It was fun to see how you communicated these characters in a fighting game context.
Hahaha! Thank you so much! We really liked this cast, so it was fun to breath life into them. Especially when brainstorming those finishers!
Excellent character models and special moves. This was almost TOO funny to watch, loved it!
Thanks Zorgla! These were so fun to make and we're glad we were able to squeeze in as many as we could!
This was a blast to play. Those finishers are just insane in the best way possible. I know a lot of people have commented on the models and animations, and they are super impressive. But I’d love to give an extra shout out to those textures. The characters look so good, especially in their closeups when you can really see the detail. The facial expressions, hair coloring, outfits, etc are just fantastic. Awesome work!
Thanks! My brother painted these models non stop for about a week, in the car, while at work (shhh), while at lunch; so he's really happy you gave em a shout out
Extremely impressive to make a fighting game in this timeframe, regardless of complexity. Even with just what's here there is some space to experiment and find different strategies.
And of course as everyone else has noted, the modelling and win animations are just fantastic.
Thank you! We originality had some reservations about making a fighting game when half the cast's secret powers was speaking to things lol. But then we thought of Mt. Crushmore and had to commit. It was intimidating at first but in the end, I think it was actually easier than the last games we made, somehow. It boiled down to just 3 things: camera, combat and characters.
Love the different attack patterns for each of the characters, really help distinguish them from one another when they do their combo string. For some reason, I was getting Jiangshi vibes from Mary's idle stance, was this just a coincidence?
Echoing everyone else, the finishing cinematic were all absolutely amazing (seriously, the creativity and cinematography could even give some AAA gaming company a run for their money)! From the tonal shift of Walrus Gemby and his hogs, to the outrageous spectacle of Mt. Crushmore (the very subtle camera zoom when the golem stands adds so much). Definitely not biased, but having Seraphina put on essentially a blindfold, reading her opponents moves with her echolocation, to then pouring an endless supply of tea over their humiliated body definitely takes the cake for me.
Can I like a comment twice!
Thank you so much! I tend to go overboard in the little details so I'm glad you noticed the zoom in :) Also happy you like the Seraphina ending, I had to learn sooo much new stuff for that! Like, post processing and particles sims. I can't help but wonder what her ending would look like with your Seraphina (she's sooo pretty!)
P.S. Regarding Mary, umm I didn't really think about Jiangshi when I chose her idle, but I think I'll sound smarter if I just say yes lol.
This is so good! The way each character's personalities comes through every action, their idle, their combos, even moving around; The Champ's lazy jog, and Solveig's super creepy crawling are especially fun to watch. I like there is enough to the combat system, being able to weave a dodge in reset or popping a throw in the middle of a combo, together with the music and win cutscenes it's absolutely top 10 Anime Battles.
Gotta shoutout the modelling on the characters, I love how authentic it is to their original designs and how you made that work for adding personality; I never considered how utterly creepy Walrus would be having that smile plastered on their face 100% of the time XD
My main? Primeval Mask. Mt Crushmore is too good!
Wow, thank you, thank you, thank you! They actually used to all have the same animations for most of the development but something didn't feel right. So we shifted focus to the character animations instead of making more stages or mechanics or something. We figured that if the characters weren't unique then that's no fun. So we're really glad you enjoyed them!
The characters were really fun to make, Gemby originally had a normal smile but my brother kept insisting I made it bigger and bigger until we ended up with that monstrosity! We really wanted them to look as close as possible to Kyle and LKB's amazing artwork. Some were easier than others. Blackmoon's hair took forever to figure out how to model and Solveig's hair alone took 6 hours just to paint, but DSD was somehow the quickest to make, almost like he made himself...
Also we LOVE Mount Crushmore too! It was the first idea we had and the rest was history ;)
I'm bad at fighting games and have a hard time judging their gameplay, but I loved the character models and the finisher animations.
Same lol, broke one of our controllers mashing the same button too much. Glad you liked the models, they were really fun to make; happy to finally have my own 3D DSD model.
Fun to play through as every character to see their cool combos and awesome ending videos! Loved the creepy crawling Solveig!
Thanks!!! Solveig's crawl was near top priority lol. Due to time constraints we had to pick between her and big george. Big george "walked" so that she could crawl.
omg those end cutscenes makes this game. I think Primeval Mask's might have been my favorite? That aside, I would main Solveig. She's the Voldo of the game.
Oh, but I would be sure to credit Kyle, littlekittenbit, and Barrelbot for usage of their art!
Thanks for looking out! We've just credited them in the latest version.
Glad you enjoyed the game! Solveig's our main too, love the way she runs!
This was a lot of fun. Loved how all the characters were presented, especially their different animations. DSD Naruto running and Aurora's little dancing kicks were the highlights. The victory cutscenes killed me, too. Such a great job. Here's hoping Kyle adds them to the montage for the stream!
Thank you Barrelbot! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It was really fun to make, and comments like this make all the work worth it!
I was not expecting those ending cutscenes! Good stuff. The 3D models for all the characters are very nice too.
Aww thanks! I wanted to really try and make my own character assets this year. These robot party game jams always push me to learn new things and I’m so happy with how they turned out!
The ending cutscenes had me laughing for real. Great stuff
Haha! Awesome! Which was your favorite?
DSD leaving the opponent headless was def a highlight and Solveig with the firing squad was hilarious
Nice!!!! Glad you liked them!
Fun fact: I had to really think through when exactly to cut the breathing sounds off in the DSD cutscene… I was terrified.
These ending sequences belong in the stream start reel, amazing!
That’s really high praise! Thank you so much! The stream intros were totally our inspiration!
Very neat little game. really loved seeing all the endings. plus i found an infinite that applies to all the characters, which is legitimately something i enjoy figuring out in this kind of thing. the menu presentation is also really nice
Thanks Wujak! I’m so glad you had fun! I think your infinite is more bug than feature though. Or perhaps you’re way better at the game than I am, lol.
plenty of big budget games have unintended combos that eventually get patched out. personally, i was excited to find it as i felt reward for playing around with the system a bit more and trying to figure out how it works. i know its probably not the ideal way for it to be played, but it at least made me smile
Great to hear it made you smile :D
Btw, out of curiosity, what was your super combo?
if you do two hits and then stop the combo and do like a tiny micro walk forward you can do another 2 hits and repeat. it seems like an infinite, but maybe there is a tiny bit of time to do something that the ai just never took advantage of
Ohhhhh, lol, totally slipped under my radar. But then you'd miss out on those Blackmoon kicks, :p
