Very solid submission overall. The art, while relatively simple, contributes to the overall atmosphere of the game, and everything fits well together without any assets standing out negatively when compared to the rest.

The gameplay is fun and reminds me quite a bit of Killer Frequency, with the whole navigating somebody else through their horror experience. The sleeping option in the cabin also helps with disarming the player's suspicions regarding the story, as one would expect that the game spans several days because of it.

The plot twist sneaks up quite slowly on the player, and while it's easy to figure it out beforehand, at that point, it's pretty much too late already, and you're just left wondering if you could have done something differently.

I think the most area for improvement is in the sound design as there isn't particularly much beyond the base atmospheric sounds, which do set the mood quite well. Just some more key sounds at the big moments would have really helped there, though I suppose there probably wasn't enough time left to take care of those.

Thanks for the nice words!

Cool

I love the way the game looks, sounds, and the main gameplay loop, but on the web version I was experiencing a constant motion drift with the mouse that was making me genuinely nauseous

Developer

Sorry for the inconvenience. I will try to patch up these issues once the voting phase is over and I can upload newer builds.

Hey BEDTIMESTORIES & Bubee!

Really great job on your submission to the Jam! I should have known as soon as I saw that H.P Lovecraft easter egg what I was in for :P Really great, tense, atmospheric game

A quick note after playing:

  • Not even really a note or anything super important, just that moving diagonally boosts your speed to 1.4x of what the normal speed is. Not a huge deal at all and not counting it against you, just thought I would point it out.

What I liked:

  • All of it! The story was really concise and I love that you were able to incorporate interactive elements with the boat. Everything was very clear and I never felt lost (can't say the same for my submission lol)
  • The audio was great and really added to the atmosphere of the world that you have built
  • I love that you incorporated the Lovecraft easter egg into the little cabin to sort of pay homage to your inspirations
  • Visually really great and the elements you chose meshed really well together!

Overall, fantastic submission! Definitely going to drop y'all a follow for any future projects.

The visual of the game is great! The atmosphere gives off quite an unsettling vibe. Love it overall.

I like so much your game and the PSone graphics are crazy, and the reference to H.P. Lovecraft is really good.

I really enjoyed this entry. The combination of retro graphics, SFX and the gameplay loop of guiding someone else as they navigate the ocean while having little to no control over what happens to them blended extremely well to create a suffocating experience. Good job.

I liked the atmosphere of the game, giving direction it becomes such a grind so quick., which is a shame because I loved the asthetics, everything felt so cozy that I was protected in my own lighthouse.

you could have play with the idea of a stranger getting into your area and maybe having to avoid him, eventually leaving on a boat and facing the sea monster yourself.

I loved everything about this game. The blue fog and the ps1 graphics are so great

Amazing game! Loved it from start to finish

Great game with the rain and other elements really setting the tone for this game.

This was great! I felt so good helping that ship until... Loved the visuals and the ambience.

Awesome aesthetic, the atmosphere is spine-chilling. Lovely retro look, which works extremely well with the tone of the game. As many others have said, the penalty for failure is quite harsh, but very understandable given that you had very little time and had to opt for a simpler solution. Overall extremely enjoyable.

Very immersive, I love the artstyle and sounds. The boat is moving a bit too fast, and the night could have been a bit darker. Also when you fail you have to restart the game. I really want to play more of this, wish it was longer.

Watched a movie with Willem Dafoe recently about a lighthouse, its a great setting for horror.

He did not stay away from the lighthouse :(,  Very enjoyable and engaging experience, Good job.

I like the game in overall: graphics, especially running in browser. Only issue is about restarting from the beginning after failure 😅 Also the “power down” is a bit long imo. A great game still

I really like the game visually. The retro graphics look so cool and atmosphere of the game is pretty good. Giving directions to the boat via the radio is a brilliant idea. I would really love to see this as a full game. With some improvment and additional content this can be a great Lovecraftian horor game. Nicely done and best of luck in your future projects!!

A great little game you can play in a browser.
