I like the idea of theme interpretation for this game. The whole game looks nice, especially the upgrade system is a strong side of this entry. I have no idea is there a possibility to regain a health, it seems also that number or strength of enemies are not increasing. I think that the progress bar of getting new upgrade would be a nice addition too.
However, I enjoyed a lot playing this game and I think it’s a nice base to finish this game.
Fun to play bullet heaven. The fact the tamagotchi can end up knocking enemies back towards you adds some nice risk to that. A couple things I felt was missing was an indicator for progress to the next level and some animations/movement for the characters (especially the player). Even something like some basic tweens to make it look like theyre walking w rotations and a bit of movement
Game is very easy in its current state, I even forgot about and never used the dash. Music and graphics are nice though and work well with the gameplay. If you work on it more post jam things that could be added would be things that add more weight to in game actions. E.g. adding some sort of thing happening visually when picking up a pizza as well as a sound effect (that wouldnt be annoying to listen to repeatedly since itll be played a lot). Also things like sound effects for throwing and recalling the tamagotchi
For theme the tamagotchi could be replaced with any object and there would be no meaningful change so the fact its a tamagotchi doesnt really do anything
Very interesting game idea, to throw and call back your tamagotchi, I like that. With the retro music, the nice pixel art and the slightly curved screen, it's the perfect arcade feeling. For me it was relativly easy to win but still a lot fun to play. The game has a lot potential, please keep developing it afterwards.
Adding a XP bar, showing progress of the current level, and a nice sound when you pick up a piece of pizza will raise your game to next level. But I know, time was short.
Very well done. I want more pizza XD
A cute little vampire survivor like game themed into Tamagotchi. Plays well, although I do miss both a healing factor and some more difficulty! I love both the art and the music, really nice.
I also don't really like the knock back as much, especially when recalling, as the enemy may bounce right into you even if they are far away
Very nice game, well done!
I'm a sucker for survirors-likes so always happy to see an entry in the genre!
I thought the throwing and returning of the tamagotchi was a pretty interesting mechanic and kept me experimenting with it for quite a while. Ultimately the fact that enemies get knocked back into you on the return feels a little off.
The visual were great and gameplay felt quite responsive.
I would love to see little improvement around hit effects to make them more satisfying and maybe experiment with having the camera respond to mouse movement instead of lagging behind the player.
Great work!
That’s quite a unique take on the theme! The mechanic of tamagochithrowing instantly reminded me of yo-yo and gameplay felt mostly fluid and satisfying. I feel like there might be some hard edges to smooth out, but overall it felt intuitive and when you get used to it, and also get some upgrades too, it becomes more smooth. Before that, it feels like your tamagochi is a bit cumbersome and gets stuck in the enemies instead of going thru them. But as it grows more powerful, these irritations mostly go away.
I liked the graphics as well! Really pretty, love the pixel art <3
Is music done by a member of the team? If so, it would be nice to include them here in the jam. And if it’s a used asset, then I can’t rate the audio :(
Thank you for playing! Glad yoy enjoyed the game and the pixel art :)
The music was made during the jam by a team member yes, I have included him in both the main menu and in the itch description. He didn’t have much time over the weekend and doesn’t use itch that much so I still don’t have him added onto the page but I’ll make sure to add him as soon as I can
A neat innovation on the Survivors formula, I loved the central mechanic of recalling the Tamagotchi by manually clicking. It's a mechanic that is easy to understand right away, but has a lot of depth and a variety of potential player styles. I enjoyed developing the timing it took to control the weapon. I think there's a lot of potential for a game based around this mechanic.
There were a few wrinkles in the details that would need some ironing out early in development, however. Hitting an enemy while recalling can knock them into you and cause you to take damage, for example. Additionally, the lack of additional levels or enemy types left me feeling a little disappointed, especially given that I was really getting into the rhythm of things just before the experience ended.
Overall, I really enjoy the experience this entry promises! Having enemies that can only be hit from the front or from the back would be an excellent way to expand this concept.
Thank you for the in-depth comment! I’m glad you enjoyed the game!
I know it finishes very early, I even had some more upgrades planned that I couldn’t make in time. There is actually one that was almost ready that would leave a bomb whenever you started recalling the Tamagotchi.
As per knocking the enemies into you, it’s something that I had fixed at the start since the Tamagotchi is not physical when returning to prevent it getting stuck into crowds. I later added some knockback to it to sweep the enemies away but I didn’t get it quite right.
Thank you for the feedback! I’ll definitely think about expanding it and of course fix the knockback :)
