Boss: You've just started your first day as the photographer for the isle! Help your boss out with a few photography tasks and explore the wilderness of this mountainous island. On the edge: A combination photography-platformer game, isletography utilises the theme "On the edge" to inform the design of the terrain, and including many platforming experiences where players are literally on the edge of a cliffside, side of a mountain or scaling a broken bridge!

I loved A Short Hike so much. I recommended it to all my gamer friends. Said, "You have to play this game." This was like that experience, but in a game jam package. So very well done, thoughtfully crafted and enjoyable. From the delightful music and sound design, to how the story unravelled and gave you a sweet twist at the end. All the NPCs were charming and this felt like a little space I wanted to spend more time exploring. Superb work here!
The platforming aspects could be a little frustrating at times, but at least it was never too long to get back to where I began. I ran around the island about a dozen times trying to figure out how to progress after the berries. I almost stopped, but I wanted to see the conclusion so badly (especially with that excellent boss hat tease). I knew I needed to do something with the magnifying glass kid, you even had the additional prompt button, but I had no clue how to trigger it. Thank you for putting the minor spoiler in the description, but if the floating mirror looking prompt had just been the "E" button in a frame, I would have known I could interact with the character. At that point in the game my mind only retained WASD to move, space to jump and Q to pull out my camera.
My only other critique would be about the text box triggers. The dialogue would appear from a certain distance, but usually I was moving toward the character because they were all so well done I wanted to look at them, but almost every time I'd then have to back up again to get their conversation within viewing distance. If the dialogue box triggered even just a few steps earlier then I would have been able to read the info, then get a closer look, saving me from backing up and recomposing my view.
This was really a standout game for me. Thanks so much for sharing and I hope this is part of something bigger.
This is such a lovely and detailed post- thank you so much for taking the time to play and give us all the feedback! A short hike is a lovely game and I defs drew inspiration from it for the overall atmosphere and design. Yeh we're thinking of a way to make the photo giving prompt more obvious and to make the dialogue reading a bit smoother - all your points are rlly valuable as we hope to polish this up post jam :D We'd love to keep working on a bigger project similar to this, so it's super heartening to hear you enjoyed it
Wow, I have to echo what everyone is saying about the graphics and sound design, stunning work.
For constructive criticism, this is more of a nitpick, but for browser support it might be better to add a secondary key for the menu? So that you don't have to necessarily exit fullscreen to change sens
Also- I got completely stuck and I don't think there's any way to reset my position :(
(Through the secret path, right in front of the bigfoot, I walked too far left and fell into this crevice between tree colliders and the cliff and I can't get out)
This game remind me of Here Come Niko for what ever reason... Very Fun..
No way you guys made it in such a short time, Its looks more like a commercial steam release then a jam submission, OMG!! really loved the environment, music and visuals, GREAT WORK!!!
Great looking game and nice atmosphere, very well done.
Such a cute game, very nice atmosphere. Good job guys !
Thank you for playing and for the kind words :D
this environment was so beautifully crafted!! just got stuck looking at all the cute textures and admiring the glow. the character designs were super sweet too! my favorite was definitley the boss at the top and the helpful cryptid. they were just helping out :') great job and also loved the music!
Thank you so much! We weren't intending to make a super wholesome game but that's how it turned out in the end haha :D
Wow, blown away. What a really beuatiful and relaxing experince. I enjoyed that there was a little story line to it too. The music was also gorgeous really beautiful and melancholic. The only game so far to make me feel emotions, kind of like that game Spiritfarer. I hope this game ends up really close to the top. One of my favourites of the whole jam, thank you for making this.
Thank you so much for the high praise, it means a lot :D - super glad you enjoyed the environment and the storyline! This is a really lovely comment and we're excited to hopefully keep exploring what we could do with this style
Loved it reminded me of TOEM and A small hike. The mechanic was very fun and the gameplay great. I would have like to have a FOV slider, since it a bit to close for me, but still awesome!
Thank you! both of those games were definitely inspiration, and we really wanted to try get more immersion with the first person POV :) - an FOV slider is a great idea + adding more functionality to the camera would be interesting
Woow everything about this looks and sounds sooo good! Art looks absolutely gorgeous, music fits the game soo well. Couldn't help but smile throughout the whole thing! Would 100% buy this if you worked on this even further and put it up for sale. 5 stars all around
Wow high praise! Thanks so much for the kind words! Means a lot!
Great game ! Loved the art, the music and the level design of the island. Made me want to buy TOEM. Were you inspired by it ?
Thanks so much! I'm aware of TOEM although I've yet to play it! I think our artist was mainly inspired by Pokemon Snap regarding the camera stuff.
what a beautiful game! The props and characters are cute and well made, and I really liked the story too!
Thank you! We're still learning the ropes of storytelling through games so we're glad it came across :D
This is probably one of my favorite entries so far. I can say I was immersed into the world as it felt like a believable place. Also, I'm not only a sucker for 2D/3D hybrid graphics, but low poly 3D is becoming one of my favorite aesthetics.
Game play wise, it was fun and I appreciate how you incorporated some platforming elements which was essential to take pictures of certain things. Personally, though, I didn't find enough incentive for taking pictures (I did anyways since that's what the game wanted me to do). I think there's room to expand on that feature - maybe there's a score and/or currency system, maybe you need to take certain pictures to progress to the next area.
Atmosphere wise, the game was pretty relaxing and the music was perfect for the environment.
Great work overall!

I loved how you introduced the big foot mystery as you scale up the mountain, and how it ends up tying into the plot - it was pretty wholesome.
Thanks so much for your feedback. This is all very valid - something we'll take into consideration for any further updates!
This game was beautiful, could not help myself to not look around enjoying the scenery.
The movement controls were a bit harsh, and a bit laggy in the HTML5 version.
The music was a bit loud.
Great art, great music. Disappointed I didn't get to see the island from the lifts view.
Thanks for the feedback! Yes that'd be great to be able to see the island from the cable car. May possibly be available in a future version..
Very pleasant game. I liked the music, visuals and ability to adjust mouse sensitivity that was way to high at the beginning (for my mouse settings). Other than that I had to look for ways to progres for a bit and the text spawn distance could be greater. One last issue I had with the game is that there were glass walls, especially in the forest close to the end of the game. For an exploration game I would like to be able to explore every single bit.
Thank you for the feedback! These are definitely all points we hope to refine in a post-jam polish, and fleshing out the map to make it more exploratory will be a key aspect (as you mentioned) :)
i love the art its really good.although the mouse sens is a bit too high and you should hide the mouse cursor
Hi Akuna, thanks for the feedback! Yes the mouse sensitivity was very high - unusually for the browser version only. This is something we'll need to address! And to hide the mouse cursor, you'd just need to click on the game window!
Very cute little game, the graphics are on point! I would have changed some of the colliders used in this game because sometimes you can float in the air.
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, colliders are one of the things we'll need to address post-jam. I was completely aware of that issue being there and told myself I'd deal with later haha!
Lovely! Very well produced too, great job. I think this game achieves exactly what it sets out to achieve. Nice sound effect when the beast disappears. Curious, were you inspired by A Short Hike, or any other game?
Thanks for your comments! Yes, I believe our artist took inspiration from A Short Hike as well as Pokemon Snap. We liked the sense of playfulness you get in those games as well as the feeling of exploration. In terms of visuals, we were looking at a tool called Sprytile and were inspired by some of its 3d demo models.
Simply beautiful. Art style is fantastic! The gameplay is so relaxing, having achievements would be really cool.
Achievements and more integration of the photo system is defs something we'd like to explore a bit further - thank you for the kind words!
Fantastic! Perfect little relaxing game. Loved the pixel art 3D style and a game about taking pictures lol. Great job!
thank you for the comment :D and glad it was relaxing haha
