What a beautiful game. The narrative is excellent and the action platforming is just simple enough, but challenging enough to make the moments between vignettes enjoyable experiences. I love the sound design on this. The sfx were minimal, but very juicy and rewarding.
The amount of polish is fantastic for a jam game. My only real feedback isn't about the game, but about your submission. I think the art in the cutscenes is beautiful and such a core part of the experience, but I think you should have put the gameplay front and center as your thumbnail, so that way when users are scanning the submission list they see something familiar (an action platformer), but that has very unique style and charm. Even better if it's a gif! I think you'd attract a lot more jammers, and then your awesome narrative is even more of a welcome surprise and delight. One suggestion on gameplay ... a slightly more generoug hitbox on the attack. In one of the late stage games those slimes were really bugging me! They felt just a pixel or two outside of my range, but as a player it would have felt more fair if my hit connected there.
Awesome game. Excellent entry. Your team should be really proud of this.
I really enjoyed how the camera moved in this, and the art between levels were very nice and told the story quite well.
It is a generic platform but the art, history and its background make it good gg
Beautiful, i absolutely loved the style for both gameplay and narrative, everything blends very well together. But why would you put so many boxes and no diamonds in it, you monster.
Good job !
I really enjoyed this! I'm a sucker for wordless storytelling, and I really liked how the art and the gameplay worked together to reveal the narrative. The 2.5D style was great, too!
I do wish there was someplace that showed the controls; they are fairly intuitive, but I only was able to find out about shielding from reading other people's comments. Besides that, I think the game did a great job at teaching how to play, like when it shows how deflected arrows can kill a whole row of enemies. The boss was a little unclear to me, though. I think it would have been good to have some indication that reflecting its attacks hurts it, because it kind of looked to me that it just reabsorbed its matter. I also noticed that there were a few times that the sound didn't seem to sync up with actions, but that's a very minor thing.
These are nitpicky comments, though. I thought this game was done really well!
GG!!!!!!!
Very nice and well constructed (No pun intended) game! I loved the underlying theme behind the game, solid storyline and well implemented. Gameplay was also great! Couldnt figure out the boss though? Awesome job and thank you for the fantastic time!
thanks for playing! you need to use the shield to defeat the boss
Dang! I'll have to play through again, definitely felt like something I could play through on a console, nice job 😎
I simply love it! The art is gorgeous and the aesthetic is just so original and beautiful!
I really appreciate how you managed to weave storytelling and gameplay together, and the ending was very meaningful even though there were no words... This is no easy feat, so great job!
I think a small tutorial would have been great (even maybe just a few marks at the beginning). I didn't realize I could use the shield until I got to the boss. Then I played it again and it was so much easier being able to deflect arrows from skeletons. Also the music was good but maybe could have used a bit more variety.
Definitely a game I really enjoyed playing!
Very nice game! Loved the visual presentation with the 2.5D graphics, movement feels very good. I appreciated the story and how it is narrated. Liked the ending very much. Good job!
What an incredible way to tell this story! The fact that y'all were able to handle such a heavy topic completely nonverbally is a huge accomplishment. Being rewarded at the end of each level with another small piece of the story was such an elegant way to motivate the player! I loved the 2.5D feel to the game, and thought y'all handled implementing the affect really well.
Fantastic looking game, loved the 1 bit 3d aesthetic. Looks like a huge effort when into the cut scenes too. Loved how the enemies come off the main plane as you defeat them and all the other small details you put into juice.
Only suggestions would be to add in a death animation for the player, put on a 3d effect on the crates, assign keys on the keyboard for the sword strike and shield (as the mouse wasn't really needed in the game) and perhaps coyote on the sword strikes so its easier to chain a few together.
Overall awesome job!
That was fun! The movement and physics felt great!
Really good art and music, insane amount of polish! I found the startup for the sword attack to be slow and finding myself to be hit by the slime whenever i try to swing the sword. Nonetheless, it is a very solid entry, excited to see how you fare!
Wow, this was truly artistic. Fantastic work! I loved the art, the stills between each segment of gameplay, and even the weird 3Dish game was unique and special. I wish I hadn't just smacked that box at the end...I wonder if I missed a secret ending. Music and sound effects were great, though they were also a little quiet. Overall just a wonderful experience.
Folks thank you all for playing ... noticed some people are having trouble with the controls:
A, D - movement
left click - sword
right click - shield
We will play all your games and make sure to review them =) thank you a lot
Guys, till the boss was one of the greatest game, cool artstyle, awesome camera movements, deep themes, nice drawings and challenging mechanics... but then... the boss what the hell should i have to do?
- sword do not hit boss
- sword do not reflect prjectiles
- arrows to sides do nothing
- tried to avoid projectile and send to the head of the boss
- tried to cycle more than one projectile
i have no hint or idea on what to do
i was so interested to the story... rip
hey Francesco thank you for playing our game =) ! You can reflect projectiles with the shield on the right click, sorry we should have made a short tutorial
Maan, i've also tried to stay face back to enemy because of shield to the back and not tried to find a button to use that shield lol...
i know, tutorials in a jam are time waste and not always easy and fast to do
By the way i'll play the game again just to see the end, thanks
I've played it again and i'll tell the same things
This is an awesome game, great art style, immersive music and deep story. Despite the tutorial issue this is a really great game
Just a question about the story;
SPOILER
The kid left the home to search the monster that is making parents quarrel; but once the monster has been defeated appears two of them... Does it means that the real monsters are the parents (that were searching his kid)?
We wanted to let that open so we can continue to tell the story after that =) ... perhaps the parents were caught by the monster and became monsters themselves, perhaps the parents were different monsters (the monster you see in the cutscenes is not the same as the one you fight ... we will tell in next episodes ^___^
yo dude the art is crazy man omg that shit was so good. the mechanics were good aswell although the player was shaking for some reason not sure if that is intended or not
Great game, loved the art style and art in general, also the controls were very good and the platforms were as challenging as they should. I don't know why, but I couldn't figure out how to beat the boss :/ When I figure out, I'll give it another go for sure, I wanna see the end of the story!
Really enjoyed the blend of the illusion of 2D on a 3D perspective, this is such a great entry for the game jam - incredible work
Amazing visuals and music, love the tilted 2D/3D look + particle effects and the reveal of each of the illustrated cutscenes is so lovely. The platformer style was simple but well executed - the slow animation of the sword was a little frustrating at times but other than that, this entry is one of my favourite jam entries i've played so far!
