what was the hardest part for you?

I'm gonna have to keep working on it, because the 8 page limit was not how my brain wanted to play with the covers I drew (and they weren't even super amazing cover options). I feel like I compressed the setting I came up with, and would like to draw out maps... It's not gonna be under 15 pages when I'm done.

The 8pg limit was a fun challenge for me. PDF export was not my friend. Kept bumping one of my title sets 3 pixels up on export.

Nice.

I think formatting and finishing was the hardest. I'm not as interested in the refinement part so my energy took a hit towards the end.

I agree with the 8 page limit, condensing and discarding ideas is always counterintuitive to the urge of overcomplicating things, but that's why is also a good challenge to get things done. Also for me, art was a challenge, didn't have much free time these days and finding a time to draw was hard, and when I was done with what I thought was only the pencils I found that I had no more time left and had to put everything together even though the art was "not-finished". Long story short, once I finished compiling both image and text I decided that whatever I was intending to add extra to the art was not necessary worth the time and energy investment, as the final result is very close to what I envisioned, and I like it very much. So to summarize, I feel that this challenge was good to just achieve something and lean more on the "less is more" spectrum of things, at least for me.

Noticing that something important is missing from a section that's already full. This led to a lot of rearranging or rewriting.

Layout, layout, layout :D

Love me some layout. And I decided to do it all in canva. Honestly for a small zine the resource are a godsend.

For me it was deciding what darlings to kill. I had some over complicated ideas. Ending up stripping almost all of them back and only having a few hundred words. I took it down bare trying to replicate Shadowdark and OSE's approach to limiting the information to just what's needed at the table. That was hard. But, educational.

Couldn’t agree more! It was a great lesson in trimming the fat. I think in future projects with no page limit, it’s still good practice to edit things back to the strongest parts.

Hey! I'm looking over yours later today!

Trimming is an art for sure.

Trimming? I do not know the meaning of this word. /jk/ I actually cut a bunch of flavor text, I apparently should have cut even more. Layout was killing me.

I somehow ended up fitting almost exactly in 8 pages (it's a shame I didn't have the space for a cover).

As for the hardest part, it was definitely formating the document. The choose-your-own-adventure style of my scenario made it really vital, too. I had to check every numbered paragraph for potential discrepancies. But at least I learned how to make internal references in OpenOffice Writer, so that's a new skill in my book!

The hardest part for me was not having a decent editor available and relying on google docs. The fact that the last day was a day I had very little sleep and was struggling to edit and finish didn't help as well. Made me forget things like credits and other simple things. But I enjoyed every minute of it.

For me it was only being introduced to this system since GenCon and not knowing where a lot of the resources were for stats and such.  Having started in Advanced DnD, playing Battlemasters as a kid, and some others like Shadowrun, VtM, and Travelor I could get a general idea and do some internet digging.

Ultimately, it is trying to gage the game flow because each has their own vibe.  Layout and design were easier because of a bg in Graphic Design, for myself.

At some point having to say "The GM will have to figure it out" instead of putting guidelines for like every encounter in there lol

Turning my bloated and churning morass of draft verbiage into the concise prose that really makes SD  hum.

Procrastinating XD

I always struggle with choosing to use AI art or not. I air on the side of "not" and try and use photos and images in the public domain but some of these submissions have some eye-catching art that uses AI.

That's me! One of the things I have on DTRPG uses extensive AI art. But, we're just a married couple. We don't really have an art budget. This one and the other one I did for another jam like thing have public domain art.

Scheduling. The Jam was on my radar at launch, and I planned to start actually writing a week before close. Ended up with muuuuch less time than that, would have liked to make it 3-4 pages, draw a map, and find some cool art.

Next time.

yeah I heard about a little late, but still grabbed my cover prompts. worked on the 1 page rpg jam between doctors visits and work, then said 'well I got the covers, I should at least create something.' and then spent some time figuring out ShadowDarks quick start rules (still hazy on monster Lvl, and making mystery game elements in the system). and by then it was a 36 hour cram session, and my brain wanting to build worlds and whole campaigns from these ideas, not 6 page dungeon crawls. and I wanted to make 4 hand drawn maps for just this adventure. sign, guess I'll play with it more now that it's over.

I did not enter my submission as I did not complete it in time. That said, I learned so much of the process to move an idea to an completed PDF adventure. I will keep practicing for future events. Thank you all for the learning experience.

PS....Once I finish the adventure I was working on, can I post it anywhere for you guys to see it...??

Just curious about a little feedback....Thank you for everything...!!!
