I love the art direction in this game. The controls get a little awkward once you get all your abilities because you have to juggle the keyboard and the mouse. It would have been nice to have attack mapped to a keyboard key. It's a bold game and cool take on the theme. And again, very good art direction. Kudos.
Thanks for the feedback, and I'm very pleased you liked the art! Since you can attack in any direction, I'm not really sure how we would replicate that with solely a keyboard
Wow this was an interesting take on the theme, and the gameplay was also amazing!! Also how did you managed to build such a a large world in only 3 days?? O.o I also liked that you actually don't need all ability in order to finish the game wich is nice... Good Job!! (^u^)
Nice work, nice graphics, and it's like limbo game.
Amazing, from the mechanics of the game, to the art. everything. This was really fun playing!!
Edited :
This was a seriously good game. A lot of games in the jam had the mechanic of learning new abilities every time you die but this one does it beautifully. I really felt like I was becoming an apex predator. The art was gorgeously simple and the music while repetitive didn't really seem annoying. I ran into a bug ( no pun intended ) with the boss where the music stopped playing but that's pretty much the only major issue I had with the game. The boss was epic and his patterns were cool as well . No other complaints other than enemies taking a little too many hits. Amazing job with this
spoilers not allowed hahaha thanks for playing!
Damn, sorry I'll edit what I said
thanks again for your time and kind words
You have packed really lot into this game. There is very nice intro, powerups are close enough to not make the gameplay repetitive and I especially adore the little details in background. And the bossfight is the best I've seen in this jam so far! Good job.
Really nice! I can't believe this was made in 72 hours!
Cool game. I especially liked seeing all the creature designs/animations.
I liked it, the controls feel good, the graphics are simple but well done, and I like how you linked the topic of the jam to the concept of evolution. I think the only problem I had is that it was hard for me to orient myself in the map as everything seemed very similar, I think in a more linear level this art style wouldn't have been an issue. But the level was not that big so it was not a huge problem anyway.
thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback! Yeah I can definitely get where you're coming from there, good point!
I saw your post and remembered I loved your game from brackeys' jam, so I hurried here.
This is well designed. There are few notes I'd like to mention:
- I didn't see the boss at the beginning, I immediatly went left at the start and was kind of lost in the loop there until I figured there might be something there. Maybe a visual cue would help guide players like me who always turn left first :D
- Death is slow. It's never fun to look at a text and wait. I do understand that you need to explain that youv'e got a new ability. But when you die without DNA you just wait.
- Animations are dope. But, triggered my archnophobia. It was fine, but still something to put in mind.
- I could get anywhere with the jump and fly only, I think that I might not even need the fly but I'm not sure. It made me not want to die and walk all over again for basically nothing. (Also, drowning takes a lot of time.)
- Cool boss.
Overall, I knew I'd like this. You didn't dissapoint.
Well done!
ah crap, you found our game's biggest weakness: going left! We just trusted that most players would go right, since it is ingrained, but it's not foolproof! I definitely could've done a better job of making that part more recognizable, I feel like it is pretty recognizable once you start approaching the cave but you can't see that when you go left immediately.
And yeah good point, we should probably add a button you can hold to skip text, so players don't accidentally skip it, and don't have to rewatch it over again.
Thanks for all the feedback! Glad you came and checked it out
I loved the fact that you can see your upgrades, maybe the boss could have an attack to force the player to fly because this ability didin't feel as useful as the other, but im just nitpicking. That was some nice art, good job to your team for this entry
I considered making an attack that requires the fly ability but I thought that players may not find it because it isn't that obvious that you can take fall damage.
Thank you for playing the game and leaving some feedback. :)
Putting the boss scene near the spawn at the beginning is an awesome idea, it puts you to death initially, but it gives me more motivation to discover what ability do I need to get to beat the boss. I also like you don't force the player to find all abilities to beat the boss (so far I probably don't need flying, it just takes a bit more time)
Also I love the art you did, everything in the game scene does match each other, and the combination of the art & music makes me immerse to the world
Thanks for the words and your time! Were glad you like the game
Green, black and Darwinism are my three favourite things :)
Great game. I love the topic. I considered something evolution based for this jam myself, but couldn't come up with something good. Very excited that you did.
Only thing is that at first things followed naturally, due to the terrain, but I only later realized that I had to die to an attack to gain an attack. Also the boss battle could have been a bit shorter for my taste.
But still, overall a game that looks, sounds, and feels very good.
good poin. the boss definitely is a bit too tanky, I might change it in a updated version if we decide to make one.
thank you for the feedback
Wow, really cool!
This was so cool. The fact that you don't just gain abilities but also saw how they changed your body. Just wish there was more upgrades because as far as I can tell, there are only 4; Jump, Shoot, Glide, and Swim.
Yep more upgrades would have been really cool , but we didn't want to over scope. We already just so managed to finish the game.
This game is epic! I loved that when I died, I got to physically SEE how that affected my gameplay! And then I would use my new upgrade to find new areas and explore! Great job!
We are glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing!
Cool game! I enjoyed having the final boss directly to the right of the starting area. I found it first and died to it, giving me the incentive to want to beat it. It was a great motivator and a smart design choice. The game was a really unique twist on a Metroidvania and was fantastic as a result.
The only kinda issue I found was that my character got stuck in water and had to wait a few seconds to drown, I suggest making it quicker if the player can't swim.
If you wanted to improve, I suggest making the areas of the level feel more unique, even though the game was small, I was constantly unsure of where I was in relation to everything. Even something small like a statue would be nice.
Overall, incredible game!
thanks for playing, really glad you enjoyed it! Really good points of feedback, we will definitely keep them in mind if we decide to come back to this game!
Yo! I really love this game, it's defintely a favorite of mine so far. The art designs is beautiful, I really enjoy the background music (though the death effect quickly hurt, though shouldn't they in some way? xD). Honestly overall, ton of fun, my only issue was how often I ended up waiting to drown in the water cause I kept evolving in different ways first, but that's probably a me problem.
thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed the game, and thank you for the feedback!
Great art! Really enjoyed this one
