Really fun. I think this would make for a great game outside of this theme - playing through the easy levels again just to progress wasn't so exciting for me (unless maybe there is a  way to get through without the upgrade? Seemed like there might be). But I really enjoyed the mechanics and simple strategy, excellent work.

Developer

I did make it so that it is technically possible to win the game without any upgrades but you were supposed to not get a good ending if you did...never implemented that and the game was designed to be easier with the upgrades. lol For sure this is something I would like to expand outside of the jam (probably won't be applying much of the theme but using the same mechanics/ideas) Thanks for playing!

Did I get confused a lot? Yes. Is that a me problem? Absolutely, super loved it, just seeing the images and overall pitch had me HYPED. Thanks for the game yo <3

Developer

Still, sorry about the confusion. I'll work on that and thanks for playing :)

I enjoyed the mechanics, art style, and that it’s turn-based. Nice work!

If possible, I would appreciate your feedback as well :D

Developer

Thanks for playing

I like this game! I enjoy turn-based games and haven't seen any in this jam so kudos to you for that. I would just challenge you to advertise and clarify the core mechanic a bit more within the game. Simplicity is always a plus in game jams. But amazing work!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback and thank you for playing! :D

I really liked this. I agree with some of the other comments, some tutorial would be nice. I felt like the shield and the helmet did nothing for me, and that's bc you didn't explain in the game what I should do with them. but I really enjoy TBS games, so I'm glad this exist. :)

Developer(+1)

I'm in completely agreement with you and others and that's one of the first things to make more obvious in the game. Was part of the goal but poor time management meant it was not implemented :( lol Thanks for playing!

I really enjoyed it! However, that was only after I read other people's comments and realised the shield mechanic wasn't random. A tutorial would definitely help.

I liked the implementation of the theme. This game really made the "progress" part feel like progress, as I was able to smash through the early rooms much faster with my new gear. That felt good.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah, the idea with both the sword and the shield mechanic is that "Frontal Attacks" will be countered/blocked so you want to tackle those from the side of the back. I was hoping to make it clear through gameplay without having to use a tutorial but it looks like I might have to come up with a better way to convey this information.  Thanks again :D

Really clever, interesting mechanics. You did a great job!

Thank you and thank you for playing :)

You wouldn't understand how much enjoyment I got out of S L A P P I N G  these people to the ground on the first levels ahaha

The only thing that confused me was the "game over" text: it says you can either "Keep all you have and restart this room" or " Start from the beginning"

But the button "restart" doesn't "restart this room", it's the other one. I think using another wording on the buttons like "Keep" and use "Restart from the beginning" would help.

Except that, great visuals, great gameplay, first time I got to see someone implement an RPG with controls like this in a jam, cool!

Developer

I can see how that is confusing especially because originally I was going to implement pick-ups but failed to do so and neglected to update the text. I agree that it should be cleared.

Thank you for the feedback and for slapping, I mean playing the game! Hopefully you unlocked the sword to convert those slappings into mutilation  lol 😉

Well done, really made me think about my moves, and plan ahead. Tho I did found it a bit difficult to get used to. the different types of enemies are nice too.

Also, the animations are good don't be hard on your self for no reason :)

Developer

thanks for the kinds words and for playing!

What would have helped you to get a better feel for the controls?

I want to keep working in this game and better controls seems to be a theme.

It's nothing special - just an introduction to when the enemy attacks and when he doesn't was the main confusion for me.

Developer(+1)

Oh, gotcha. Yes, both the enemy and you must walk through each other in order to attack so if there isn't a tile left over after they reach you then they cannot attack you. I can see how that might be confusing. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind :D

Nice polished graphics and overall style. I really like this game :)

Played on Stream. Very unique puzzler. The organic tutorial of how each enemy acted was very interesting. Had some troubles with figuring out how far each could move, even with the hover, and attack. But overall a solid jam experience. Good job :)

Developer

sweet! Thanks for playing and commenting! I'll be taking your troubles into consideration as I continue to work on this game

I didn't get the controls at first, but other that that, great job

Developer

Thanks. I was concerned about that and wanted to make a tutorial but didn't prioritize correctly.  Thanks for playing  :)
