I like how you constantly introduce new ideas and use them in creative ways to make interesting levels. The Concept is very basic initially but the sticky blocks , sticky yellow blocks and jump pads are the natural evolution of the it.

I also quite like the art. The toasts are wobbly and fun to watch die over and over again.

But I think that the game is a bit too hard for a game jam. I usually appreciate difficult games but in a game jam I just want to come to the end of it. It took me over 200 tries to beat the game and there where some instances where I messed up the last jump or got caught on the edge of a block.

The solution here is to make some of the hitboxes a bit smaller , so you don't fall into the corner of a block ( the green sticky ones . especially in the level where you need to land three of the green block jumps in a row. )

Also you could reduce the falling speed a bit to make it easier to land on the side of a block.

And last but not least I would have really appreciated a undo feature that could have avoided a lot of frustration.

This is a good game. I love the squishiness of the toast and the art style of the game is very clean. The music is also very good, and adds to the overall feel of the game.

It also feels very polished, and I especially like the burnt death effect. I think the inclusion of a pause menu also adds to this feeling. The controls are snappy and the puzzles are really well designed. It certainly follows the theme with its main mechanic. Add to this the simplicity of the game and I think you have a chance to be in the top 20!

The only problem that I had with it was that some of the jumps were a bit hard, but that might just be me being bad at this kind of platformer.

I felt as if I needed to give back for the great feedback you gave me : )

Nice Game, That at first seems like a platformer, but is actually a puzzle game!

I Really like the different deaths you can have and what effects they have for the future(which is something unique compared to similar games where you die to make platforms).

The movement feels very intuitive and the tutorial does a good job of showing what different things do without using text (e.g.: the lava block: they are introduced to you by letting you fall into them, so you know how they look)

Really cool take on the concept! I had a lot of fun trying to solve the puzzles (it took me over 250 tries to finish the last level), and the limit on deaths really makes this game for me. The art is also super cute, I love that the spawn point is a toaster.

Developer

I am glad you enjoyed my game :D

Would be cool if you could undo just your last death. A few times where I'd figured out where I needed to jump but messed up the jump ran out of lives and had to start the level again. Also the style is cool love the extra crispy toast when you burn yourself.

Thanks for the feedback :D I will definetly implement an undo system :)

Great job! Feels very polished. Chapter 2 was already starting to get a bit too hard for me but I had a lot of fun anyways.

Thank you for playing and giving feedback it means a lot to me :D

You should export a WEBgl version! You're allowed to do that even before the jam is over and I think you could share this to some other websites with a web version too.

Developer(+1)

I had some problems with webgl but i will try again :)

Wow, this defied my expectations! I didn't expect it to be bad or anything, but i did expect it to be boring with the super over-saturated mechanic of die=platform, but, you managed to introduce new mechanics surrounding the main one, and a smooth death count that still makes failure failure, and it was all around pretty fun. The game felt a little big, but the slew of new mechanics throughout the playthrough helped. The difficulty is iffy, the game can feel really hard or tedious at times, and there was one level in chapter 0 that I'm pretty sure is impossible, it was the first lava one. The art was fine, it didn't look awful, but it wasn't that great either. The music, surprisingly for such a short loop, didn't get annoying, it was pretty good for a while, but the main theme was pretty short so it looped a lot which took away from it's quality, but very incrementally. Overall, it was a surprisingly fun game with my only complaints being some reduce tediousness and difficulty in levels, and some more polished art and character movement. Amazing game!

Developer

Thanks for the detailed feedback :D I made all of the levels in a hurry and only played them once so i can see why some of them are harder then others. Thanks for playing :)

Aha!! Here's the problem: Too many Toasters!! You know what they say... All toasters toast toast!! (please tell me you got the reference...)

Ok, bad jokes aside... I'm finally home, and i can rate your game!! (sorry if i let you wait that long :P) The idea is really unique, and i really liked that you had limited toast (it's a cool twist on the "your corpse will stays after you die" concept), the only thing is that the room were a bit too hard imo...

The controls felt really polished, but like Afif Zughayer already told you, even tho i didn't personally felt the need of them, it's best to add Koyote Time and some Jump Buffer: they really make your already awesome controller feel even better... Here's a really good tutorial on how to implement them www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QPmhDYn6rk

To sum up: Great Game!! All Felt Amazing: from the controls, to the level design, to the graphics and music!! Good Job Really!! (^D^)

Also, the controls wrote on the first room are wrong, but i bet you already know that... :3

This is great!! Very creative, well-designed challenging levels, clear tutorial. I love how you give a max number of lives per level. For me level 3 was a bit too hard took me like 15 tries to stack enough toast. Overall great game!!

Thanks for the feedback :D

Neat little game! The game felt pretty nice to control and the variety in obstacles and challenges was a nice feature. It was a little too generous with lives though, since even though I was playing recklessly I still ended most levels with 5 or so lives left, although having too many lives is much better than not having enough. I didn't notice any glaring bugs either, although the tutorial says the up arrow can be used to jump, when it's actually space - that was kind of confusing.

The art was nice and simple too, and it worked well with the particle effects. The sound design was also satisfying and the music was fitting as well. Overall, it was a cool platformer with a surprising amount of content, so great work!

Developer(+1)

I gave generous amount of lives becouse i didnt want it to be too difficult.

Thanks for playing :D

This game is just... WOWIE! I loved this game a lot! I can see some inspiration taken from Try. Die. Repeat, but the different platform types add to the juice of it making it much more unique. The visuals are simple and attractive, the animations are fantastic, the music is really chill. It's fascinating how polished this game was! I nearly ran into 0 bugs! (I'm not sure if it was a bug, but at some point, the music stopped.) I really had a fun time playing this game! Definitely one of the best I've tried till now. It insane how you managed to make such a polished game with many levels in such a short time, now that's talent! I also loved the shader you've put on the menu, just a small detail I liked. I can definitely see this becoming a great game if you continued working on it! (If you're gonna do it please inform me, I'd love to see more :D!).

I do have some suggestions to make the game better:

- Adding jump buffering and coyote time. These 2 can make the movement much more responsive and smooth.

- Different music for each chapter. (Though probably due to time restraints I understand the reason.)

Other than that I loved this game! Definitely a 5 star from my side!

Thanks for the kind words :D i planned to do 2 more songs for the game but there was no time to make them :/ I will work on this a bit more to see what can i do with it. Thanks for playing :D

really creative and well executed. Nice music, but a few little bugs. I would like more!

Developer

Thanks :D

Lots of great ideas in there and they're executed very well. I did run into a small bug where I would jump, and the animation would play, but I wouldn't actually jump. It happened when standing on the toast. Hope that helps if you decide to keep working on it, I'd love to play more if you do.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback I will look into that.I hope to work on this a bit more to see what can I do with it :d
