Update 1

This update is simply for improving the first demo after it was released. Since this demo was so small, I didn't need to do much.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a crash related to an enemy trying to reload when dead.

Gameplay Changes

  • Dashing now makes you dodge enemy attacks (this wasn't a bug, my intentions on dashing simply changed).
  • More indication on when enemies are damaged.
  • Balance changes (ex. shotguns having smaller mags).
  • Added text boxes in the level to give additional information.

Behind the Scenes

  • Originally my characters (the player and enemies) were a stack of sprites, so they had a body, then a separate object for the outfit and face if applicable. Now it's all in one sprite so it's easier for me to manage the character's appearance.

I don't think this demo needs any more improving, so now it's on to further developing the game itself. The second demo will most likely come out sometime in August and will showcase different stuff. I don't plan on doing more than three demos before the final release.

Thanks for reading!

I just want to make sure you got my email, if you don't trust it I can have FutureInspireGames talk to you instead. If joining the server does not work for you, I can also refer you to his email since he is responsible for giving prizes.

Basement Raid 2143 is a top-down shooter inspired by Ultrakill and various top-down games. In BR43 (short for Basement Raid 2143), you destroy and massacre the giant basement of a rival company because something of value is at the bottom. You can pick from a variety of weapons that each change how you play the game. Many things will change, so stick around to find out what new surprises I bring!

See where this game began with Demo 1: https://century178.itch.io/basement-raid-2143-demo-1

I'm open to feedback, so feel free to suggest anything!

As I update the game, I'll also drop my changes in the replies, so check often! I'll try to get something out at least every two wednesdays.

If UModeler X is not used or you do not provide a public GitHub repository showing you used UModeler X for most of the art, the submission is disqualified. This is part of our deal with UModeler as this jam is meant to promote UModeler X, their newest asset. I know the page has a lot of information, but we couldn't do much to shave it down without removing necessary info or stuff our partners wanted us to add to the page.

"For this specific game jam, you will need to use the Unity game engine because that is what UModeler supports." So you have to use Unity. However, you can make the game play like it's 2D, so as long as the visuals are 3D, you should be good to go. In fact, the post from FutureInspireGames (the other host) says "don't make your '2D platformer' 2D and flat. Make it at an angle so we can appreciate the 3D dimension" so 2D gameplay is explicitly allowed. You just need the visuals to be 3D.

In short, Godot is not allowed for this jam (only Unity is) but the game can be coded like it's 2D as it only has to be 3D visually.

In our last jam, two of the three winners were known solo devs and the number one might have been solo too. You got this!

Short answer: Yes

Long answer: "We are not really worried about the technicality of whether you are creating a WebGL build or not; as long as your game can be played on the web and be submitted to itch's jam page, we are totally fine." - FutureInspireGames

I never got a message from you, so discord must be bugging out. Your best bet is to contact Jason if you haven't already, as he's the one who gives out prizes.

Make sure to contact us on Discord so we can give you your prize.

We forgot to update the page in the midst of everything that we were doing right after the jam, sorry about that. It's been updated just now to show who won.

I really like the horror aesthetic, plus the gameplay is decently challenging!

I think the concept is very creative!

Definitely not what I was expecting! Very nice!

The artstyle is solid, it follows the theme very well, and the gameplay is impressive! Plus it's funny how the you pick a level and the car goes to a different one. Very fun!

I like the chaos of the game! Very fun!

I love the artstyle and the gameplay is quite interesting!

Very nice gameplay, plus it's very polished!

I like the artstyle and music, very good! If you added more chaos, this could make for a great arcade-esque experience!

The controls could be a bit better, but I like how the game keeps trolling you! Overall, very fun!

I think this one was quite intense, I managed to get to room 16 on my best attempt. The bomb placements were very clever!

I think the difficulty could use some tweaking, but that artstyle is the most unique I've seen in any other jam game, not even in past ones! I also like the SFX.

I definitely think it's interesting how you followed a Cold War theme. With some more work, this could go very far!

I like how the game makes you think it's one thing, but reveals it's another. Quite interesting and I like how it tells a story!

I like how you went with a horror direction, plus the marking feature is quite interesting. I think this has a lot of potential!

I definitely found this one quite funny, plus this does a good job with following the theme! I definitely never found my gameplay going according to plan!

I like how you have to use the recoil to get anywhere, makes it quite challenging!

However, I found that there were differences between the WebGL and App versions (like ammo count), but not enough to affect the experience overall.

Good game!

I really liked the artstyle and music, props to Shawn and Dariku!

Also with the gameplay, I think if you just sped it up and made the RNG more forgiving, it would be really fun!

We will figure it out, whatever happens we'll make sure you get your money if you win.

After the stream I added an option to slow the game down as well as some changes to a few levels to make them fairer. Hopefully this solves the issue.

Oh I saw your submission oops

Since there is a 90/10 rule (Almost all assets must be made by the pixelvibe AI but UI can be made by you), it will be difficult to make a 3D game. It's possible and allowed, but I would not recommend it due to the limitations of the AI and the rules we set.

The AI has to be used for graphics unless you use their free asset packs or are making UI. However, you can also modify the AI's images as much as you need.

One thing he didn't mention is that there will not be weeklies during the jam. However, we lowered the amount of points required to upgrade your prize for this jam. Despite this, the dailies should be enough to upgrade if you win.

No interpretation of the theme is wrong, but here is some help: "Echo" means either a repeat of something (usually a sound) or something that is a lot like something else. A simple interpretation of "Echoes of Time" would be about how the past affects the present/future or how things from the past still remain in some way. Hopefully this helps and I hope you have fun!
