I had troubles starting this game as the menu was off screen for me (see screenshot) and there was no maximize game button. But, I played with the zoom settings of my browser, and I was able to read it once I set my browser view to 125% (I do not have a 4k monitor). I went through the tutorial first and understood how to play, but it seemed that the tutorial was a bit more forgiving when revealing a track than the actual game itself. As I was playing, I realized that around the 6th or 7th track that I could very faintly see the next track in the distance, so I had an idea of where to go for the next one. Sometimes the bell would ring what seemed to be too far away, and I couldn't make the track fully reveal. However, if I stepped closer to where it was, pulled out my notebook and stared at the spot that I knew the track had to be located, I could "force" the track to appear. All that being said, I actually quite enjoyed the relaxing pace of this game. I do wish the music looped (it ended before I was halfway done collecting tracks) as I found it helped the peaceful mood. Overall, great entry!
I was only able to obtain the boots and gloves. I just didn't have enough time to complete the block sliding or tv puzzles. Also, the puzzle to the right, I tried walking on the pads in the directions the arrows indicated, but nothing happened other than the numbers up top changing. I'm guessing I didn't understand the point of that puzzle.
I gave this game a few tries, but I had too many collision issues on each attempt. There were times where I felt like my character somehow got turned around but my camera didn't, because WASD suddenly wasn't working correctly. Like if I hit W instead of moving forward I was suddenly moving at like a 2 o'clock position or some other odd angle. That being said, I enjoyed the low-poly art style and I'm super impressed with your submission making it with only 3 seconds left!
I'm impressed you were able to get this done in such a short amount of time! I liked that hovering over the cards would show the effect it would have on your resources, but sometimes it seemed like a set of cards wouldn't show anything at all. I didn't pay attention to which cards they were though, sorry. I see lots of people have already given you advice for taking this further. I definitely see a lot of potential with this. Great entry!
One of the better survival games I've played this game jam! Those wolves are brutal if they catch you! I rescued 3 people on my best run, but they just stayed there after I dug them out. So if I was supposed to take them somewhere, I didn't know how. I also didn't know what to do with the items under the first snow pile closest to the camp fire. I got a blue something or other several times, a green beanie one time, and a person one time.
I had fun playing this! I really enjoyed the gibberish you recorded for the boss's voice. I was a little worried the pace would become really frantic when the alarms for the 90s and 30s warnings went off. The pacing was really nice, and I definitely messed some popsicles up, but I managed to make $264 by the end.
I didn't read any of the comments prior to playing, so I was expecting a super epic dramatic game after that intro. Then I heard the funk music and realized you have a sense of humor like mine! 😂 I was really amused by the names as well. Were the sprite/title/name combos being randomly generated? Of all the ridiculous combos, my favorite was "Mr. Boy."
Congrats on your first game jam! I'm terrible at platformers on a keyboard, so I didn't get very far. I gave it a good try though. I didn't notice any freezing when I didn't eat any apples though. Like at the start of the second level. That jump to the tiny platform on the side of the cliff was difficult for me, so I did that circuit over and over before I finally made that jump. It probably took me 2 minutes to make it, and there were no ill-effects from not having eaten an apple in a while.
Congrats on completing your first game jam! I think you're off to a nice start. I have a few thoughts to keep in mind if you keep going with it, or for future reference. Since the mouse and arrow keys are all typically used with the right hand, it would have been nice to have a left hand interact button instead like spacebar. I played through twice because the first time the game ended, I thought something bugged out. I had a suspicion that it was maybe because I reached 10 points, so I paid better attention the second time, and sure enough that's what it was. The addition of a "you won" or something equivalent would be helpful. Nice job doing this all on your own!
Just wanted to offer some words of encouragement since I can't play your submission (windows user here). There's a co-op kids board game called Outfoxed that uses a similar dice mechanic to what you describe, and we really love that game in my house. The screenshots look really good, so hopefully the Mac users will rate you well. Happy holidays!
Wow, this game is so different from everything else I've played in the jam so far! I loved the feel of the flight path of the bird just ever so slightly lagging behind the mouse. Reminds me of some digital sculpting tools I've used before. The transition to spring at the end was really nice after the snow storm. Really nice overall!
I played through about 4 times. The first time I was following along with the tutorial, and I expected dialog to tell me to venture forth and find my house. Alas, I froze in the night. The next time I put some wood on the fire, followed, some deer track and found my house without even looking for it. The next two times I purposely went looking for my house and found it once. I think this could be a great start to a game that's sort of Oregon Trail-esque. Maybe with the ability to build your own fires if you don't immediately find your house.
This was fun! I really enjoyed the challenge of forcing myself to not shoot at everything because I may or may not have shot at some of the gap filling rocks. 😂 The parallax effect seemed to be backwards, so I found that a tad distracting at first. However, the game was fun enough that I was able to ignore it after the 1st level. The "death" animations were great, and the highlight for me.
Nice tactics game! I really enjoyed that I could rotate the view and zoom in an out to help me plan my future moves. It took me a second to figure out what the pickups were for. At first I thought I was literally going to be picking up a shield as an armor upgrade. The 2.5d style was well done, but I do wish the characters were a tad brighter. Overall, quite enjoyable!
