The dialogue was very engaging. That detail was interesting where it auto shows the dialogue without pressing anything just being near the character. The fight mechanic in the shop with the spells was also quite well done. NIce job on the game!

I love the art! Nice game! You can play my game if you want: https://itch.io/jam/-pixel-game-jam-2024/rate/2718966

Very fun to play, i love the "positive" feel of it and the story is very interesting. I love the gameplay, although it would be nice if you disable the "reviving plants" upgrade after doin it once haha. Other than that, good game honestly! Charming art, fitting music, imaginative story and the game has no apparent bugs! Keep it up!

SO FUN I adore the little characters and the art style!  Barely beat it by a hair! The tower defense was fun and challenging in a good way and I love the lil side plot with Rini, Overall a very wholesome experience I had a lot of fun with it!

Developer

thank you for playing ! Rini appreciates you 🫶🏽

Really nicely done! Barely made it through day five, that was a close one. Those bears are NOT messing around. The art and story were very cute, it was nice just to run around the farm. It did take me a little while to find the actual tower defense part of the game though, because so many things had that [!] above them that I ran into all of them thinking they might be different. Once I found it though, I really enjoyed it, I think you did a wonderful job scaling the difficulty up with each round, and  I think the abilities were well balanced. Great work!

Amazing game! I love the pixel art so much, escpecially the cute character portraits. Also the dialogues are super fun to read ⭐⭐⭐

Developer(+1)

thanks so much for playing! I’m glad you enjoyed the dialogue and art (by me!)❤️🥹

My favorite part of this game was the pixel art for the portraits and scenes, however I found the actual gameplay pretty uninteresting. If the protection area were smaller with more room for enemies to spawn on the outside with different speeds there would be more room for different mechanics and management of approaching enemies.

The game was cute overall.

But on a more negative note I am not sold that this game fits the Jam's theme close enough. The announcement video implies water and the use of the color aqua seems like a stretch for me.

Glad you liked the art! Kayla put a lot of work into it, and it turned out awesome.

About the gameplay, sad you didn't like it. But the thing about enemy speeds probably isn't the reason since they vary pretty notably. For example the crow is ~3x faster than the bear.
If we continue working on the game we might add new behaviors to enemies and spells which could add variety.

About the theme, we took a risk by not going full on water, we thought it'd be creative and refreshing from other games. Still, we referenced water as aqua too, like Grandmama mentioning the aqua spell(water spell '3') as the strongest spell witches use. I personally think the announcement video having water in it shouldn't limit the interpretations of the theme, it's just there to announce it.

Well, I'm glad you had fun with it! Don't let's some of my more opinionated comments get you down. I hope I'll see you guys at another jam.

Developer(+2)

thank you for the compliment about the art (that was me :)) I wanted to do a game other than just water, and the word aqua is short for “aquamarine” as well as water. To me if it were mandatory to do water, the word would have been “agua”

I'm amazed you were able to make this game for the game jam. Very fun!

Very cool! Looks beautiful!

Cute simple game with unique characters!

The big move speed boost on the path is a bit jarring but aside from that and small polish, everything felt good and it was fun!

Loved the narrative for the game and being able to explore the world before doing the defense mode. I got completely overwhelmed on day 5. Not sure if I had missed something or maybe needed to be more efficient in an earlier wave, but it was insanely tough!

Really great game overall and I’m impressed with how much yall got packed into the game for this jam. Nice work!

Loved it. Art, music, and the gameplay loop are great! I can definitely see this being even more fun if it's fleshed out more.

This is sooo cute 🥺 I love the characters and the gameplay is really fun! I'm surprised this jam doesn't have an art/presentation category so I'm leaving my 5 stars here instead ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Developer

thanks so much!! I wish it did apparently that’s included In “mechanics”

Great game the farm really feels alive really love all the details (lights, idle animations). The mechanics are well implemented and work well together. Congratulations !

The characters are so cute! They're definitely the highlight for me, but defending the plants is fun too

I LOVED this game! So cozy and peaceful, reminded me of Stardew valley in terms of vibes. I adored the dialogue it was super well written and showcased the characters very well / was super relatable. The combat was surprisingly challenging closer to the final days, I was struggling hard even with big upgrades. But that made it fun and engaging and I was so determined to finish the game! I love the art and animations, super expressive especially the portraits and the animations of the enemies. I would love to see more added to the game like being able to cleanup around the farm, or more complex battle setups, maybe some more defensive mechanisms added. As a nit pick, the HP bars of the plants were too small to read and the roads were a little confusing (I appreciate the speed up but it wasn't clear to me why I was speeding up at first, it might not be necessary for this game?). But overall GREAT JOB, thanks for a wonderful game experience! Hope yall work on this more and / or make more games in the future, I'd love to play more!

Thanks a lot! Happy to hear you enjoyed it, I hope you managed to beat it eventually and see the end scene-credits - I'm quite happy with how it turned out.

Quick shoutout to Kayla which did both the art and the story which were your favorite parts it sounds, she's a beast and truly put her heart in the game.

The nitpicking is on point, the hp bars could use a small size increase and for the roads there should probably be some type of visual effect on the character except the animation speeding up when it happens imo(like wind blowing around her or afterimages).

Thanks for the review!

Developer

thank you so much for the detailed review and feedback! It totally means the world to me that everyone is experiencing my characters🥹🥹. I’ve love to expand upon the game more specifically in the overworld farm, Ples stay tuned!

This was adorable! It got pretty challenging towards the end too, in a good way. 10/10!
