Thanks to everyone who rated and played this game! We had a blast making it, and hope you had fun playing it!

We've updated the game to version 1.2, incorporating all of the great feedback you've given us. Please check it out and let us know what you think!

Because of one more day to rate I could play again. The framerate really affects the speed of the gameplay. At 800 FPS I barely got to wave 10, while at 90 FPS I’ve had no problem with wave 30. Frame cap would be a basic fix that would help immensely. It is a gamejam though, so I get that not everything can be planned for. The graphic on the other hand are really pretty and everything is clear. I liked different abilities, and tarot was a nice panic button. For balancing I feel though that the cold snap could really use a buff.
Looking forward to what else you will cook!

The gameplay is interesting. I really appreciate the style and effects.

Super cool game, your art style is fascinating, like really bloody cool, and uses dithering well. The game makes sense but the projectiles are a bit odd, as in the reload time is much too long to start with and the projectiles slow, so many times I lost a lot of health while feeling helpless watching enemies walk by me. I do believe this is less of a problem as skill improves, but the initial run or two can be frustrating. One of the first wave defense games I've played in a while, so pretty rad!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! The update we have planned for this weekend should hopefully address the issue you've mentioned here about the projectile reload (and many others!), please check back in a couple of days!

Definitely great visuals and music, and nice upgrade system. Some more enemy variety would've been nice but overall very cool game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback! We had planned on different enemy types but unfortunately we didn't have time to implement it.

Really cool game! The aesthetic is beautiful and the soundtrack is perfect for the game. Hoe you will keep working on that! Cheers :)

After I click start there’s a castle and a wizard. Am I supposed to click something else? The tarot button spawns a sigil on the ground but I feel like there are supposed to be enemies to fight or something

Developer (1 edit)

Hmm that's definitely odd, there should be enemies spawning within 2-6 seconds of the game starting. I've not heard of anyone encountering a bug like this before, can I ask what platform you are playing on?

I’m not home so I only got my windows 11 laptop. Tried relaunching, redownloading but always the same result :?

Developer (1 edit)

I'm really sorry the game isn't running correctly for you, this is the first time I've heard of this particular issue after over 70 downloads... My only guess right now is that your laptop may not meet the minimum specs for the game to run correctly? I hope you can hold off on making a rating for now and give our game another try on another device when you get home!

Submitted(+1)

Okay, that gave me idea. I’ve tried a few things - the game was running at 44fps before, but with some tweaks I got it to hit 90 and now it’s working correctly. Sweet!

Developer(+1)

Nice, glad you could get it working! Unfortunately some of the game's systems are frame-rate dependent. I know that it is usually bad practice but we had a deadline to meet!

Submitted(+1)

it’s understandable, gotta put compromises somewhere to make it on time! I won’t be back before the ratings over though but I want to play it again after :)

Submitted(+1)

Very cool game, I hope you continue it.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! There is going to be at least one more update coming later this week after the judging period is over which will contain a lot of improvements based on the feedback we've been getting. After that, who knows!

I like the risk/reward of stocking up a few points at the end of the round to get some more substantial power. I leveled up movement speed a bit and the firing rate wasn't as hard to work around, but alas I only made it to wave 10 on my first run. Definitely a game that has a quality that makes me want to replay it even after a bad run! Absolutely stunning art and color palettes. My fav. rn is Rhubarb Custard.

Submitted(+1)

Solid production, the mesmerizing gameplay plus chill music make this game one of the best of this jam and one of the few I'll play again even after the end of the jam. Congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your lovely comment! Stay tuned for later this week, we'll be releasing an update based on all the great feedback we've received.

Good game. True, I don't understand how to upgrade magic. I was able to upgrade only ice magic and only to the first level. Because of this, I couldn't go far.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! It might not have been very clear, but the "C1"/"C2" indicator on the upgrade screen refers to the number of points an upgrade costs. Not the greatest piece of UI I know, but hopefully that clears things up!

Very interesting shooter concept! The colour palettes are very pretty and the game looks great - superb artstyle!

I would say the most important addition to this game would be a "reload timer" for shooting. Without it, the delay in shooting, as well as not being to spam the shoot button, feels frustrating. Once there is a visual cue for the reload time, it would take all frustration with that control away. You would then also be able to see the change the "Reload time" upgrade does.

The only other thing would be to experiment with the hitboxes for the enemies and the path of the bullets. If the enemies were not above me, I always needed to shoot quite far below them to hit. It sometimes felt like the hitbox was on the enemies' feet, instead of their bodies.

Overall, incredibly good-looking game! Well done.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, I think you're spot-on with your analysis there. In the next update after the judging period is over we're going to make changes to the general balancing of the game, as well as add in additional UI to show the reload time (and squash some bugs we've found recently!). Please check back in about a week or so!

Submitted(+1)

Loved the art work & the upgrade system. I don't know if I was just bad at the game but the first few rounds seemed almost impossible to clear without letting one or two enemies through.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback! While the game is intended to be hard on purpose, I think it's probably too hard. Once the judging period is over we plan on updating the game to include all the great feedback we've been getting. Check back in about a week!

Played it multiple times to find good build (Reload time is your friend early :D), really enjoyed it.

Its quite hard from start, not hitting single projectile is really punishing, but that pushed me to find the optimal build, so not a big issue for me. Art style is beautiful, the pallet changing is good idea, was planning to add it to my game through post processing, but didnt really have time for such detail :D. Loved the dithering effect. The music is really cool, chill vibe, and the moving sound is great :D. Thumb up.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you had a fun time looking for a good build (I find that getting Ice Storm early is very helpful!). That being said, when the judging period is over we're planning to release a balance update that will hopefully allow for different strategies!

Submitted

I'm looking forward to it! Planning to finish my game to some solid degree, actually just added the palette system (really fun stuff to implement) I have mentioned before. Few things I forgot to mention, when I hit Try Again button, the game crashes for me, dunno why, and the C1/2 by the upgrade was little confusing at first, you have points to spend, but the price for those upgrades is marked as C1/2.

Submitted(+1)

Really liked, fun and solid game.

But I think it's too punishing. First, because of the perspective the bullets sometimes don't go where you want them to go. And second, the enemies are so fast that if you're on the left screen you don't have time to deal with the ones on the right.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! I agree that the game can be a bit too tricky and needs some tweaking, although it is intended to be hard! We plan to address this with an update once the judging period is over, please try again then and let me know what you think!

Submitted(+1)

Really nice concept, had fun exploring what upgrades were but I feel it needs some balancing.

Overall really solid game

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! Balancing is definitely something that needs improving... I wanted the game to be hard but the level of difficulty spikes a bit too quickly. Once the judging period is over, we're going to release an updated version with better balancing, a couple of new UI elements to make the game feel more responsive as well as squashing a few bugs!

Submitted(+2)

Fun game, loved the upgrades each round. Great mechanics. My favourite aspect was the customisable pallet. Great themes, and art work. Top entry!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your lovely comment, glad you liked it!

Submitted(+2)

i like how you made up the shadows and stuff

Developer

Thanks, my teammate https://otocky.itch.io/ worked hard on the overall look and post-processing effects, she did a great job!
