How does your game represent Mode?
The first (and obvious) is a play on words. The second is the mode switching between rounds. The player swaps between a building mode (the time to plan and fortify defenses), and a battle mode (the time for enemies to attack you).

Really fun game, though it did feel super unfair. I played for about an hour and a half, most the time trying to figure out a strategy, which felt bad as a trial and error type game. It also sucked that i couldn't build mid round to try and adapt. I would suggest in the future adding an option o see what is coming from where, that way you could plan what to do and strategize around it. The art was super nice though i needed to zoom out half the time which ruined the small pixels. Overall I liked it but I wish it had some more strategic elements.
Very solid, polished and good tower defense game. moat gimmick is super cool, loved it. not much to say because it's just a good game all around lol.
Good Stuff! I do enjoy me some tower defense, i played it a bit
Took me a while to get into it, but once I did it was great! I could sit here for hours fortifying my fort if I didn't have to head for work soon.
I spent more time that I am comfortable to disclose on this game and I really want more of this. Possibly with some economy balance/auto aim on the biggest towers (cause they miss so much it makes them dumb compared to the cannons). The four roads are a nice idea but I wish the gold was a bit buffed to allow for different build ideas, cause it's kinda hard to get over the first moat level.
This is the entry I played the most so far and it's fun af. Thank you.
Wonderful game that portrays the tower defense genre nicely. Only gripe would be the lack of some sort of background music and the towers not showing their range ( so it was game of trial and error :P ) but overall a well polished game.
Very fun and polished game, I thought it was cute that the enemies are little hammer dudes.
The graphics and sound (I think the ballista was voice acted?) were great!
I got a bit stuck at the beginning, for whatever reason placing the structures inside the moat was the last place I expected you to be able to put them (thought it makes perfect sense now) - and also if you don't cover all sides at the beginning you might just lose immediately.
Great game overall!
Its a nice little tower defense game! I wish I could see the range of my towers though.
The game was well polished, and I liked the sound effects and little intro sequence! I was hoping that the money would come back once demolishing structures but I suppose that's a hard lesson I had to learn the first time I demolished a structure. Nice and replayable game. Would be cool to know how many enemies are coming from each side so that I could have some more information to prepare for the enemy phase.
Good game! I played it for 30+ minutes and eventually made it to day 30 where it suddenly became much harder. Some friendly constructive critique with maybe some spoilers for anyone who hasn't played yet (be warned). It seems like the best strategy is to just invest fully in cannons, at least for a long time. Eventually I was able to upgrade the moat one time and start building farms. I definitely like that aspect of balancing eco vs def but from what I experience it needs some tweaking. By the time I could afford to forego defensive structures and finally invest in HP regen I was down to about 1/2 health, which is fine but the incoming enemies after that point prevented me from ever getting my health back up meaningfully. In order to get to the point where I could actually place an alligator, I had to already stack cannons in the place I would put an alligator and demolishing them feels counterproductive. On one hand I'm a fan of the discover the game as you play kind of thing, but on the other I think you're narrowing your audience a lot by not explaining things in game more. It would also be nice to play towers during combat so you don't just get stuck, and I wish there was a way to know what was coming in the next wave, even if it was just a headcount, so you could know where to place new towers before the next wave. As it is its a bit of a guessing game which feels less strategic.
Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! I totally agree with all your points. We didn't allocate enough time balancing some of the things you mentioned, but we will definitely address all that in a future update.
Dude you made me go back to playing it so that I could try and go beyond day 30. I managed by buying the hp regen early, no moat upgrade till late and stacking cannons. The hp regen overstacks the health so you can take a few more cannonballs (and then you die on day 31).
Well polished defense game with replayability! Had fun trying a few different strategies to see how far I could get. Great job!
Fun and polished game with lots of levels and strategy. I feel like you are pretty close to having something ready for a full on steam release, or maybe it'd work well as a mobile game too idk. Just a friendly heads up, I couldn't place some things like the farm or alligator.
This is a neat little game. The intro was amazing tbh lol. Good job! I'll be telling my son about the importance of a moat
Big fan of the art style and the lack of music is surprisingly zen. I also love resource management stuff like this.
The game would have a lot more staying power for me if there was some kind of 2x speed for when the player has had a couple of runs and starts to figure out their strategy.
Awesome job on the game!!
At first i had abit of trouble placing things, but afterwards i had fun.
Really good. I just wish the "towers" would display their range and maybe damage as well. I placed the alligator in the corner of the moat wishing it would swim to the troops or something but it didn't work like that. Also tried to gauge the range of the ballista but it didn't seem to reach too far either. It seems like most of the moat space is wasted unless later in the game different troops arrive from other angles. I didn't make it very far xD
Nicely polished game! My first attempt was even more embarassing than the others, as I was kinda confused and started battle mode without buying anything :D
One thing, which feels counterintuitive (at least to me) is the fact that the moat doesn't seem to slow down enemies, which would've made the moat have an actually useful effect during the battle, too. Or it *does* slow them down, and I just can't notice it.
Ok kinda embarrassing, but I immediately spent all my money on the moat round 1. Love the intro.
ok I just read the other comments and it seems immediately buying a moat is a common theme ;,) thank god.
I really liked the cute intro and the punny name for this game! Very nice graphics and overall a level of polish that I haven't seen from other games in this jam so far. Great menus with readable text, SFX for most game actions, even down to tooltips when hovering over items you want to build!
On my first run through I did end up dying cause I was excited about moats from the intro so I immediately built a bigger moat and only was left with enough money to build a single cannon. On my second playthrough I made it all the way till day 11.
Only criticism I have is that in battle mode I didn't really do anything so it kinda felt like there was really only one mode which I ended up engaged with. Still it was probably the most polished experience I've had so far in these game jam games. Well done!
Fun little defense game with great pixel art and a goofy opening
