The character and his animations are so cute, I really liked it.
and the crafting mechanics are nice. Nice 3d game in the landscape of this gamejam!
Thanks! Crafting isn't in the game yet though, but I believe you get the gist of the gameplay. ๐
Really great looking game. I love the visuals, the sounds, the music. Too bad you can't really do much at the time. Maybe a bit too ambitious for a week long jam but definitely continue working on this game, I hope you finish it one day
Thank you for checking it out and for your support! My goal for this jam was to start out a dream project and it's ok if I didn't finish it. Really just thankful to actually have it exist now. ๐
Great job in that case. I think you've got a solid foundation for a great game. Keep it up
Cut down all the tress , watered all the coconuts, forgot I was rating games for a 7 day game jam. Incredible work, just keep going with it.
You actually did? Amazing! I scattered them coconuts all over the place and when you go to the front shore, you can see all your hard work, or perhaps destruction. ๐
Thanks for spending your time at Pug's Coco Island! Much appreciated!
That is impressive and that all made in 7 days wow. Me as a harvest moon fan i love it. The animation a cute the colorpallet is nice. Sadly nothing keeps me playing like a crafting and selling . I know 7 days is not much but maybe it was dreamed to big. I see alot of things which cut have been cut in favor of gameplay, like the mountain or the bears on the boad the are adorable but not necessary.
Ah, yes! Harvest moon is โค and one part of it that captivated me was the sense of wonder when you go up the mountain, and if you notice with the camera movement, it was inspired by that change of perspective in HM, so I implemented it on my game as well. So creating a mountain of my own is like a homage to that game and felt very important.
As for the bears, they're actually pugs with different colors (fawn, silver, black + brown, and albino.) Also the banana motor boats play an essential role for the gameplay, as they will be the initial transport method for visitors/customers going to the island. At least that's what I planned at first. Decided to add them in quickly before submitting because they were easy and less of a hassle. ๐
Well, thanks for playing the game, means a lot! ๐
It was really cool. it definitely gives animal crossing vibes in a good way. though i was wondering how to put together all the stuff
Thank you! I really like the look and play of Animal Crossing, just don't have the actual experience of playing it. ๐
As for putting stuff together -crafting, building and selling aren't in the game yet as I decided not to force-add them in so I could submit in time.
Very cute game and art work was very well done! Loved the tool tips in the beginning for the controls!
The trees exploding when chopped down was hilarious!
Thought the movement was a little difficult at first but got used to it!
Great game! If you wouldn't mind check out my game!
Thanks so much! Added those tool tips in the last hour of the jam, good thing the game was simple enough that it would require me to add just a few cloud bubbles. Nice to know they work fine! ๐
Haha, didn't really mean for them to explode, but glad you found them funny though.
There are other things I tried to be funny with, have you seen them? ๐ (Hint: requires "Next day/s")
Can you expand to how the movement was difficult for you? Was it the halt thing? or just the directional alignment? Would appreciate more feedback for improvement. ๐
It felt like more of the directional alignment when sprinting around! It just seemed to lock in a direction and was hard to make turns out get out of tight spots!
I noticed boats in the water with like a banana shaped boat with a bunch of bears or something lol
Super cute game! Destroying stuff was lots of fun. Very smooth controls and fantastic art! Not 100% sure how it fits the theme, but quite enjoyable :)
Would appreciate it if you check out my game!
Thanks! A bit of a shame that I could only add in a few interactions within the time-frame, but I'm glad you still found it fun and cute!
As for the theme, I know it's a bit tricky to see, but if you think about it, -one coconut tree resource to produce multiple items and to expand from- is how I interpreted the theme with.
And sure, I'll be happy to check out your game as well! ๐
Such a good game ,it is very satisfying to cut the palm trees :D.Did you had a team or solo?
I like cutting the trees as well! Do you think the explosion is a bit overboard? ๐
And no team btw, I'm running solo on this one as this is my passion project and really holds close to my heart.
But maybe in the future, I can collaborate with a friend on another project.
Thanks for playing! ๐
definitely one of my favorites from the jam, i purely enjoyed exploring the beautiful world, awesome job!
Oh, thank you! Means a lot to me. Thanks for checking this game out! ๐
Beautiful art and really smooth controls aswell. Felt really good to just run around.
Was confused for some time though, because i couldn't figure out how to craft or use any of the machines near the house:)
Thank you, I really spent most of my time just trying to make everything look pretty and cute. Also just making sure that controlling the character is lively and responsive.
Sorry about the crafting though, it's not yet in the game. I just ran out of precious time, and would mean trouble for me if I tried to add it in the last minute, so had to press that submit button to avoid regret. ๐
Such a pretty game! the water gives me wind weaker nostalgia, and it feels like the makings of another great farming/sim kinda game. Who wouldn't wanna play Stardew Valley with Pugs?
Awesome work, feel free to check out my submission too if you have the time :)
Ooh, interesting! Wind waker vibes indeed! And to compare this with Stardew Valley is high-praise, thanks!
I would name this Stardew Pugsley ๐ and sure, I'll check out your entry as well. ๐
A very complete concept for a game jam, it looks very nice and the camera has a lot of work. However, I'm not sure how it fits the theme to be honest, maybe I'm missing something. Cheers!
Honestly it was hard for me to fit in the theme because when I join game jams I usually already have an idea for my next title. So the idea I had in mind was to farm stuff and the hero must be a pug (dedicated to my son/dog who loves coconut oil), and then it hit me, a coconut tree!
So from that one resource, all of its parts are usable, which can be interpreted as "less is more". ๐
A really beautiful game, and a great concept. Some form of building mechanics would be a great addition to this so as to fill in the time between harvesting.
Thanks! And yes, building stuff would be nice and is actually part of the initial plan. Very excited to add them in, but first gonna have to play the jam games ๐ Will definitely check out your entry!
Look forward to seeing what your game can become!
I can't stop staring at the water ๐ฏ
Yes, me too! Sometimes I find myself distracted when testing the game. But have you seen somewhat unusual activities beyond the shore?
Yeah, I saw some pugs stalking me over the sea... too bad I can't reach them ๐
This game looks gorgeous, loved every thing about it, I would suggest some building mechanic like the one in animal crossing for future development. A fantastic entry in this jam, and one of the few games i can say that i would pay for it.
Keep it up!!!
Thanks for the great compliment! I've been wanting to create a farming/sim game of my own and this game jam really helped push it forward.
And yes, the building/crafting mechanic will be in the future update. ๐
Again, thank you for taking interest in it ๐
My pug would love to take your money! Seriously, he likes $1 bills and puts them in a coin bank. ๐
First of all, great camera work. I never felt like the camera was in the way or obscured anything important, which is the case with many commercial games and I feel you deserve all the credit for this. As for the theme, I don't really get how it applies to the game. Controls were intuitive, but I would have liked to be able to hold E instead of having to wait for the prompt. That breaks up the flow IMO and makes you pay attention to something you shouldn't have to in the first place.
As others have mentioned, I have no idea how to start crafting. I gathered materials, but I couldn't interact with any machines? I'm confused on this.
All in all a fun game which has a lot of potential, but for the moment it is a bit raw. I would have liked to see the mechanics polished up more than the art. That said, while I may not be a huge fan of the terrain textures, it is a very pretty and polished game and I feel you can go far with this idea. It just needs more "game" in it.
Despite the shortcomings, you did a great job in polishing the game this much in a week!
Thanks so much for the response, I agree with your suggestions. As for the theme, the general idea I had was this one resource that would create more resources, but I can also see other ways to interpret the theme in this game, like how one pug creates a lot of things, etc...
But I do see that it feels like its theme is more is more. ๐
The game is very unfinished indeed, as I spent too much time on the art and also fixing small issues, making sure that expanding the game will be an easier task. That said, crafting didn't make it to the cut. Though, I wanted the players to have a sneak-peak with the machines, that's why I put them there.
Also, as I realized I was spending too much time on the environment, I decided to use unofficial terrain textures.
Like the sand is for the coconut meat, the mountain was for the roofing, and the grass was for items with leaf weaves. ๐
Again, thank you for your helpful feedback, I will also check out your game and share my genuine thoughts! ๐
wowwww! blown away! if you can do this in a week, what can you do in a year? well done!
Very nice compliment, thank you! ๐ I'm very excited to continue and make more content for this game, I think three months should be enough for a complete base game.๐
I'm AMAZED that you made this in one week I'm giving everything 5 stars and the sound 4 since cutting the tree was really loud but this put a big smile on my face as I ran around as Puggo through this island
Wow, thanks for the rating and for reporting the sound effect, will look into that and fix it. Puggo is really happy with your comment ๐
I was absolutely blown away by this game! It really reminds me a lot of animal crossing if you played as one of the villagers. I genuinely have no idea how you managed to pull such an amazing game off in such a short amount of time! Amazing game!
In truth, I have no experience of playing any Animal Crossing titles, only just seen them on video trailers and from shares from friends.
So the real inspiration for this game is Harvest Moon, which I enjoyed and finished when I was young. Just switching it up with build mechanics and simplified harvesting.
As for the time, I spent the first days just creating the art assets and didn't really bother creating a prototype. For the character, it doesn't use complicated rig controls, just simple skeleton and IK for the legs were enough. I'm also a proud user of Playmaker (a visual scripting tool), making it fast, fun and less messy to program the game. Plus, I wake up early and sleep late so I could be more productive.
So I believe those helped me in making all this possible within the time-frame.
Thanks so much for checking out the game, I will also look into your game. ๐ ๐
That was GORGEOUS. wow. I'm stunned. Great job. I had a blast but I honestly wasn't sure how I was supposed to start crafting.... Is that a feature that you planned on adding or did I just miss it?
Thanks so much! I failed to mention that crafting isn't an option yet, as I simply ran out of time. I even almost forgot to add in a simple tutorial for controls ๐ฌ but managed to add it in the last couple hours. But I'm glad you enjoyed the game, will surely check out yours too!
Would love your feedback! Again, Awesome job.
