Project Ouroboros's itch.io pageGame's Take on the Theme
The player is an Ouroboros snake, requiring spinning around to eat its own tail to reload its weapons. The snake can also spin into a coiled form to dodge bullets. Additionally, the snake cannot stop moving, which requires frequent 'spinnage'.

I made all the art and code. Music and sounds are from free to use sources.

This is geniunely top 30 material, it’s such an awesome idea that plays super nicely into the rest of the mechanics, the visuals look so clean but i feel like the one thing holding it back is the controls. I can’t seem to reach my tail consistently to refill before being shot and losing it
Thank you so much! I agree the controls could be improved. I was thinking about allowing the head to rotate faster, or even instantly towards the mouse. Could be worth experimenting with needing to press W to move forward, which would allow the snake to stand still as well. The drop rate on the ammo refills could be higher too. I am thinking of continuing development but there are a lot of things to think through, thanks for the feedback :D

I think that there were many different things regarding mechanics being explored and imo I got a bit confused. That being said, the first half of the game I was having fun with the moody abandoned school feeling. very creepy.
Really enjoyed the gameplay! and idea was really original and worked really well. Had a few small issues with camera zooming in and kinda getting stuck zoomed in, think it was caused by me aiming and dodging right after each other, unless it was meant to just zoom in for the boss fight. The boss fights were cool, the movement was a little tricky to do when I wanted to shoot as I would be constantly moving towards the boss that would damage me, not sure if there was a way to stand still but I would have liked to not move towards the boss as I shot him.
Also think the way you displayed the tutorial was really cool and made it part of the map. Overall felt like a really well polished game. Good job!
Didn't have much time for playtesting so there might be some bugs I have no clue about :D Thanks for playing and enjoying the game. I wanted to try experimenting with moving the snake only when pressing W so that the snake could stand still while allowing aiming, just did not have the time to actually try sadly. I will after the jam though!
very original and awesome idea, though I had a really hard time with the controls, I couldn't even beat the first boss that had really basic attacks since I kept getting hit and running out of ammo too quickly because I got hit. Main thing that bothered me was just aiming at the boss, since the snake takes a bit of time to align with my mouse, other thing was having to press RMB to eat anything, I think it would be better if the snake just ate things automatically since there are few cases where I wouldn't want to eat something (like choosing a weapon). Aside from the controls this is great and I wish there was an easier mode so I could see more content.
The idea of the game really surprised me a lot. I also liked the fact that you can choose your weapons.
Well i beat the first boss. Took me some try to get used to though. After which i'm not sure what i'm supposed to do to get out/get to the next stage?
oH MY GOD, this game is so nice and beautiful! Although I didn't manage to beat the boss, I Iiked about the decision between either you have a long tail or ammo. Just wished that there was more ammo drops from the boss.. I felt your game was hard, but in a good way, as I spent a few tries here. Definitely a gem, congrats!
The fact that you're a snake with the gun that has this coil roll ability is kinda cute but...
The design decision that you can run out of bullets and there is practically nothing you can do during the fight is very questionable. Also I think I had a bug that make ammo not picking up, which made it completely impossible to play (even though I had the sound effect).
Visuals are quite nice. The snake was a bit hard to control, but still good since it is a snake game.
