Amazing twist on simple crossword game. I love how unique this game is

Submitted

Really cool and fun concept! Having the spirit slowly guess your name added pressure and having the player enter their name was a neat way to have a difficulty setting while also engaging the player. I enjoyed trying to solve for the spirit's name but I wonder if there's another way to figure it out besides having to skim/search each spirit entry. I also did not see anything door related for the jam theme lol

This was very well done, the visuals and transitions/animations were very clean. Rolling the dice felt and looked great too!

Really enjoyed the concept of the Dice + Crossword gameplay, included with a Lore-"study" factor to it. Plus, the ambience was very haunting - although I'm sad that it isn't an original soundscape.

Also, level 2, with the starting letters, made it way too easy to get the answer haha
Additionaly, picking one letter and then repressing it makes it count as a swap, which shouldn't.

But, in any case, the concept, puzzle pattern and ambience is really good!

I really like the concept for the game! The music and graphics create very spooky atmosphere. Took me a while to guess the words for the 2 ghost. I wish there were more levels. Good job!

Great concept, love the push your luck angle, works really well with the spooky vibes. Also think the idea of trying to find the demons name before it finds yours is a cool race! I had a bit of difficulty moving letters around once I placed them, but could still figure out the words. Really enjoyable little experience!

Cool concept with a spooky atmosphere. Visuals & sound are very polished. The underlying lore was well written & complimented the game well!

Just finished the 3 levels.

The art looks good we feel well the vibes of the  inspiration. And i like the idea of checking in the book to find the right anwsers.

It took some times to understand how it works, and i'm only supposing what letters in the bot-middle does, and i'm not sure of what "letters swap" does exaclty (was more clear in level 3, but the number change depending at the dices sometimes), I've just ignored them.

The first level i've cleared it legit, at first I was confused, cause I was still trying to understand how the things work, and i get killed with the first spirit action.. In the second run the spirit action didn't killed me and gave me letter on board, the objective was more clear and i've beat him.

Second level: I don't understand what the spirit action do, and tried to find an answer with letters on board but doesn't worked, so i've used brute force. (Trying name one by one).

Third level: By elimination there only 4 spirit left, and with letters on board there only few solutions.

Thanks for the feedback! "Letter Swap" is the amount of letters you can swap each turn. Once you get all the letters, the numbers on the dice become extra exchanges. I hope my explanation has made everything clearer for you now. Unfortunately the second level spirit power has a bug that can make it difficult to defeat the spirit :(. Thanks for playing until the end!

"The amount of letters you can swap each turn".

How do I swap letters and how, and what the letters does ?

Developer

If you click on a letter already added to the board that is not in the correct position (letters in the correct position are indicated by green) you can swap it with another letter that is incorrect, by clicking on this other letter. The yellow letters indicate that the word contains the letter, but that it is in the wrong position within its respective word. This way, you can swap the letters on the board to find the words that represent clues about the spirit you are facing.

Great game relly enjoy it keep it up

Wordle combined with Inscryption??? This game was made for me... No but really, this super fun! You have a really good atmosphere and the puzzles themselves were a fun challenge to figure out. I didn't understand how the dice worked at first but it was pretty easy to figure out. I also liked how each boss had their own theme and affected how you rolled, making you have to switch your strategy. The team did a great job on this! If you have time, I would love if you checked out mine as well!

Took me a long time to figure out how exactly the letters mapped to different clues and guessing the demon, but super satisfying once I got there! Very cool concept and visual style

love your point of view on the game jam theme.

The ambience is here, has played it in the dark and it works really well.

Developer

Thanks for you feedback, that was exactly what I was expecting when I developed the game mood!

This game is really interesting and I love how it's similar to a table top game and the recent really cool indie games like Buckshot Roulette or Inscryption. The atmosphere is spooky with the graphics and music complementing each other perfectly. I also really like the gameplay itself, a bit of a puzzle mixed with dice rolling and the encyclopedia of all the spirits and the lore... I love it all and it makes everything so immersive! The two floating eyes of the mysterious spirit is also a nice graphic that adds onto the spookiness of who's staring back at you and whether or not you'll figure out who they are before they figure out who you are. I really enjoyed playing though even if I had some trouble with the second one? and I love seeing different game mechanics and styles being put into use for quick jams like these!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback, you were correct about the game inspiration in other cool indie games. Unfortunately the second level has a bug that can make it hard to defeat the spirit :(. I'm very happy that you found the game immersive cause that was a big deal to me!
