How does your game fit the theme?
This is a Puzzle and Stealth game about a Ninja and the Secret Temple.
The temple hold secrets and Magical Artifacts inside, but you, the player, believe them to be myths, seeing as no one was able to Escape the temples and save the newfound knowledge.
Will you be able to escape the temple full of magic and secrets?
Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes

Nice little platformer ^^. The controls are enjoyable, and I like the concept! At first, I thought "okay, you just visually replaced buttons by doors, that's a bit lazy", but then I enjoyed the hiding mechanics and the "splitting" sections, it gave more meaning to the theme =).
The graphics are good, even if I feel like the story you are telling us is very different than the game I'm playing... My guy doesn't look like a ninja, and this place doesn't look like a temple ^^'. The music is very enjoyable and fits your universe perfectly, great job on that!
You already know about the size of the spikes, but you also need to change some colors ^^. A very basic way to avoid player misunderstanding is to use the red color for all the "bad" things. I would have loved a little red-ish tint on the camera's vision cone and the spikes, to make things more clear ^^.
The level design is nice, but I would have loved some checkpoints, or shorter levels ^^'. There is a lot of "walking for nothing", which is a bit frustrating.
So overall, that's a really nice entry ^^. It's a little bit rough around the edges, which is normal for a 7-days jam game, but I enjoyed paying it, so congratulations =)!
The door mechanic was really innovative and I loved the theme. It was hard to see the spikes though.
Yup I'm a terrible artist I'll never draw spikes again, thanks for playing :)
The lack of sound effects really hurt this game imo. Even bad ones would be better none at all
Yeah, I was mainly focusing on the main soundtrack that I had no time to make SFX, there are a few but definitely not enough, sorry for that!
Well Done! I enjoyed it !
Thanks!
Spikes are very hard to see! But otherwise, art style is very good. Also loved the sound. Puzzles are a fun addition. The game has a lot of further potential.
Thanks a lot!
I enjoyed the mechanics and the puzzles, also really like the background pixel art! Nice work.
I mastered the 4 elements of the doors :)
Hey, well done! thanks for playing :)
I'll be honest, It's not that good, but has some potential.
Art and Sound: The description says "temple", but it's all just some rocks and bamboo in the distance. The spikes are almost impossible to see, I died way to many times to that. Character animations are limited, but I like the "opening doors" one. The music gets repeatable after a while, also door sounds where? Overall lacks "juice". But credit where credit is due, the background artwork looks stunning!
Mechanics: Not very original, but they work well with each other. The only bug I found was the ability to duplicate player infinitly with the soul-splitting green door. Also explaining them through text on the screen is well made tho.
Level design: They're too big. Add on top of that restarting from the beginning on death and you get a massive waste of time. You should add more checkpoints and decreaes the distance you have to walk. Also you introduced platforming in the first level and then it's barely present, only spikes and cameras, it lack variety.
Story: Not much visual storytelling, only single logo of the syndicate,t least as far as I got, that being level with controlling two characters and hiding in blue doors. The writing on the game page is long as a novel and is not very good place to put you game story, it should be in the game.
I'm not hating mind you, just giving some good advice from heart. Good luck on your future endeavours!
Sorry you felt this way, the game could definitely be better but you have to remember the time constraint that we had to work with (which for us was barely 2 days, not 7)
There were a few SFX, although did get overshadowed by music, which is why I thought to not worry about that too much, that and the juice that you mentioned, I guess more animations and effects would help
It's not that we forgot, just wanted to get the soundtrack, basic mechanics and the background artwork right before the rest, which in itself was not perfect either with the camera not following and the spikes problem
Storytelling was not really the main of our focus so it's probably not the best
Checkpoints I regret not spending more time on since this and the spikes would probably make the game a lot more enjoyable, it was a last second thing that I could not finish (because duplication made it 10x more difficult)
Thanks for your feedback, I really hope that after the jam ends you'll play the game after it gets updated, with all of the problems you and many other mentioned getting fixed!
BEFORE YOU PLAY THIS GAME: There are spikes! so if you die, remember that I told you so (don't worry it's the only asset I've drawn, the rest are drawn by a professional and not me)
Also as for the camera not following the player, from what I've played both players need to be in range of the camera to progress, if not, you did something wrong :)
Sorry for these inconveniences and thanks for reading this
I love the puzzle elements and the setting is very cool! The camera can be a bit painful and the spikes are kinda hard to see but I am sure given more time those issues could have been resolved. The part where the camera zooms out to show the two dudes was very cool.
Yeah sorry about the spikes, hopefully adding this comment at the top will maybe help other players with this, we'll be fixing this first thing after the jam
Thanks for the comment!
Really nice puzzles, and nice visual. I really liked when you combined the different door mechanisms. Only thing i would've put in is at least 1 checkpoint in the levels.
Checkpoints was the next thing we were going to add if not the time constraint, thanks for the feedback!
The parts where you control two of you were really cool, I was blown away when I saw it happen for the first time. I really liked the use of doors in this game and how there were multiple kinds, and I especially liked that they were shoji doors! I wish I could have seen a bit farther ahead with the camera because I died a few times to spikes that were just at the edge of the screen, but I can see how balancing the camera was really tough for a project like this. Really well done!
Oh this part took a while to implement, so happy it worked out for you!
And yeah the camera was a headache, but you don't need to see further than what the camera shows to complete the levels, from all playtesting I've done it all is in the viewing area
When you die to the edge remember the ledges you can reset the other player to
Thanks a lot for the feedback! and sorry again about the spikes
I love the pixel arts of this game, the gameplay is interesting and very innovative.
Thanks!
I enjoy this game, it has a cozy feel to it. The platforming adds a bit of challenge to the puzzles. I thought the parts where you control multiple characters at once was neat, I haven't seen that before in a game. I felt like the hints at the bottom of the screen were a nice touch, it helped make things feel more puzzle-like, and made me realize I needed to put more thought into things than just running and jumping. I admit I had trouble with the spikes too! I died several times before realizing there were spikes there. The art and music are top notch. Great work overall!
That part of controlling multiple characters was a rough one to get right, glad you enjoyed it! sorry with the spikes and thanks for the feedback :)
The puzzle platforming was super cool. I did have a few problems with the camera though. It was too high up most of the time and you could see what was below you. There were also sometimes in the section where you were controlling multiple versions of yourself where I couldn't see far enough ahead. But minor problems with an overall great game.
Yeah camera was REALLY difficult to manage, it keeps track of one player at a time and it might cause your issue
This is why the world is pretty compact, but doesn't fully solve the problem ig
Thanks for playing and for your feedback :)
I like how everything fit so well with each other, one thing that was painful was that it was hard for me to see the spikes. It looked to much like everything else. Otherwise it was lovely !
Thanks! and sorry for the spikes :)
Overall a very good game. The graphics are amazing! Especially the backdrop looks very good!
I feel like the spikes are a bit too blended into the environment, I thought I had just beaten the level the first time.
A very enjoyable experience overall! Well done!
Sorry for the spikes! hope you got past them and got to see the door mechanic :(
Thanks for the feedback!
Overall great look and feel and it matches the theme well.
Few feedback elements : Make the spikes more noticeable somehow, I died 3 times before I even noticed them , I thought I was just being teleported somewhere else ( or add some death sound or something ) .
Maybe make the character disappear when it goes " through " a door, so we understand the changes, as sometimes it stays on the same place, sometimes it moves but that's minor.
Well done !
The character has an animation when it opens the door so it kinda overlapped with the "disappearing" animation we thought of doing
The spikes are the only asset I've drawn and not the artist, I better stick to programming and music lol
Thanks a lot for the feedback and for playing the game!
The spikes design was ok :) it's just that they are the same color as the ground and quite " low" so it was " hard " to notice them ^^ no worries. Well done :)
Nice game!
I like the design of your levels, once I had all the mechanics I really got into it. And loving the audio!
One amelioration could be to make the spikes more visible.
Was going to say the same, I died 3 times before I noticed the spikes lol.
Sorry for the poorly drawn spikes!
Thanks for playing :)
