Fun little puzzle platformer, the art style is pretty interesting, and the calm world ambience was really nice. My only critique would be that the platforming and puzzle levels felt a bit separate from each other.

Developer(+1)

Actually, they are connected (in level 4), but because of the jump problems and wall frustrations, a lot of people didnā€™t make it there. Iā€™ll definitely update the game with more interconnected levels, improved player controls, and more unique puzzles.
thanks for the reply

Submitted(+1)

Some bugs I found include sometimes instantly using your double jump when just leaving the ground ruining some jumps and sticking to the wall the whole time was also kind of annoying.

You get massive points for the movable blocks though, if timed correctly you could fly with them which was a lot of fun haha.

Good game just needs some polish.

Developer(+2)

Thanks for the review. I apologize for the wall issue—that happened due to the physics met of wall. Iā€™ve already fixed it and am just waiting for the jam to end so I can release the patch.

The glitch with flying using movable blocks is new to me. Iā€™ve played the game many times and tested the rigid body of blocks, but I havenā€™t encountered this issue before. If you could provide a screenshot of the glitch, it would be really helpful for me to resolve it.

Submitted(+1)

It's more like you can boost yourself up with the blocks but if you get the timing right you can keep doing this mid air. Tbh I would see it more like a fun feature I found while fucking around than a bug because it isn't that useful. Just something fun :)

Developer(+1)

šŸ˜‚ your comment made me rolling on floor

Thanks for fu*king around and giving us new unexpected things.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

well if say so then we wouldn't touch it ...
its not a bug .. its a feature XD

Submitted

That's how cool new features are sometimes formed. If it doesn't ruin the experience completely why take it out šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø x

Played for a bit, good puzzles, just a few things

The levels seem a bit wide/long, zooming out and/or squeezing the levels sides in a bit would be nice.

When you jump against walls you seem to stick a bit, was a bit of a pain trying to jump up ledges.

Other than that, great little submission for the jam!

Developer

Yeah camera size is a bit short .

We thought that the player should have less visibility so that he can explore the calm.

And sticking to wall may be due to physics material. We will take care of that next time .

And also jumping problem yeah.

Thanks for your great feedback.

Cool game, i think it could really use some quality of life for platforming (coyote time for example) also the player feels awfully slow. But on bright side thr graphics and audio are pretty good and its fairly original.

7.5/10 :)

Cool game! interesting conscept with the dual worlds :)

Heya! Really loved the contrast in the colour palette and the way your screenshots and thumbnail accentuate that, very nice presentation! Here's my feedback from playing your game:

Game Design:

  • In level 1, it wasn't clear that I was supposed to move left first - I think the juxtaposition of the starting area made it the most intuitive for the player to move right (empty inviting space on right, and most platformers traditionally operate left to right), so for the solution to the level to be on the left made it a little confusing to start and admittedly I had to read the webpage instructions to figure it out as I thought there had to be some keyboard shortcut I missed initially
  • I wish when time ran out on the purple level, it doesn't send me back to the nature level. I would just want to restart the purple level without having to grind through the nature level again as I had already cleared it and figured the puzzle out. Having to do the puzzle repeatedly turns it more into a chore.
  • The character is a cube, and it seems the ground check to perform jumps is at the cube's center. During the timed challenge, there were times when the cube is clearly on the ground, and I'm on the edge of a platform ready to make the jump, but I can't jump because the code thinks I'm not on the ground, due to me being on the edge. This led to a lot of falls and frustration because I should clearly be able to jump, but the game does not let me jump. This happens extremely often because it is intuitive to want to rush to the edge of a platform before jumping, to maximize your jump distance to land on a faraway platform. However it's not intuitive if the cube can't jump from the edge. I tried the timed level multiple times but I had to walk away because I couldn't make the final jump, which is a bit of a shame.

Technical feedback:

  • When you hug the wall, you can't seem to jump to the normal maximum height. I believe this is due to friction or sliding from contact with the wall. For example, if I hold right while I'm against the wall and then double jump, I can't leap to the next floor. However that's how most players would control their character - holding down the movement key, and then using another key to jump. So having to release the directional key and make the jumps separately, and then go back to using the directional key to make sure I land, is a bit awkward. I think for a platformer it is important that the character control feels sleek and intuitive, as otherwise it can lead to frustration or confusion for the player, especially when the jump height is inconsistent.

Graphical feedback:

  • Nice polishing touches like subtle leaves dropping in the nature levels. Adds a lot to the feel and immersion you were going for with the calm levels.

What I loved:

As mentioned, I really loved the aesthetics and colour palette chosen. The use of purple is gorgeous and contrasts the yellows and greens of the nature levels. The character being a white glowing cube also makes it stand out regardless of the level. Loved the intro animation as well and the music that adds so much "feel" to the game!

Edit: Also using the mouse to move the cubes is pretty nice, and the physics interactions is also cool. While I didn't make it far, I think that's an idea that I would've loved to see explored more of in later levels!

Developer

Thanks for this detailed feedback! I honestly didnā€™t think too much about the difficulty while developing the game, but after submission, I received plenty of complaints about how the jumping and repeating the calm world became frustrating for players. So, Iā€™m really considering adding checkpoints and increasing the jump force a bit. However, Iā€™m not sure if the mods will allow me to do that since Iā€™ve already updated the game once (for a patch fix). What do you think? This is my first Brackeys Game Jam, so Iā€™m not too familiar with the rules. If it's allowed, Iā€™d definitely make those changes.

By the way, thanks for the technical feedback—it was really informative and will definitely help me polish the game. Iā€™m also planning to expand the game, add more levels, and eventually release it on mobile devices.

Thanks again for your valuable time. I hope your game makes it to the top 5—it was absolutely crazy Sh*t!

Submitted

Hey! Sorry this is actually my first time participating in this Brackey's jam as well so I can't really comment on what can or can't be allowed as I'm also unsure.

I too, want to update my game's description and also put out a new build to change two lines of code that adjusts the game's difficulty, but I notice that doing that will update the game page and am unsure if that constitutes as making a change. I think you can ask the mods to be absolutely sure if it's allowed (and if you do that, I'd also like to know too haha).

I see you've played Stormbridge, thanks for trying it out and please feel free to let me know your thoughts or critiques on it if you have any, as I am also trying to learn and improve on it! :)

Developer(+1)

I spoke with the mod named "Just Old Now," and they said you're fully allowed to update the itch.io page whenever you want. However, if you want to make changes to the game files, you need to get permission from one of the admins or mods first.

I also asked about what changes are allowed. There was a glitch in the first level related to the portal and instructions, and he mentioned that if a bug or problem is breaking the game experience—like in my case, where players don't have instructions on where to go and what to do—you can make those changes. Small tweaks to your existing code are also allowed, as long as youā€™re not creating something entirely new.

For your case, since you only want to change a couple of lines of code, you might get permission for that. Just ask in the help section of their Discord server: Discord Help Section.

Best of luck with your stream game also!

Submitted

thanks so much for the info! This is good to know! I saw that bit about how you can make a change if it's game breaking, but I wasn't sure what constitutes as "game breaking" as technically the game does function without the changes, but the changes are also minor enough that I'm not creating something new šŸ˜…

Submitted(+1)

nice game, i love puzzle platformer games because they always surprise me with a game mechanic i did not think of :D also in your game i was pleasantly surprised! 1 thing i did not like was the player getting stuck on walls but overall good job :)

Submitted(+1)

Great game, I liked the idea. Using mouse to help player to navigate

Developer

šŸ˜thanks

Submitted (1 edit)

This game could have been fun, but there are two major issues that don't make it fun:

  • Player character feels hard to control
  • Every time I die in the storm world, I'm sent back to the calm world; that gets annoying very quickly

Good effort though

Submitted

Actually had some time left before work. Hi, much clearer after you extra information, very nice game. I also broke it again haha, if you keep holding something when changing the level, and then in the black release it then it reswitches and to the current level which it already did goes back to black and then you can't do anything haha. Also it might be my gaming skillz here but I actually think the levels are quite hard :( But very lovely game well done!

hyper casual design in monochromatic art looks cool

Developer

Thanks for your great feedback

Submitted (1 edit)

Nice! Some suggestion to improve are:

  • In the beginning it says to press the plate, but nothing says to go to the left first, so this could be confusing. The itch.io page says how to pick up stones, but nothing in the very beginning says to go to the left. Since it's supposed to be guiding you with instructions, it's confusing that actually you should ignore the instruction and move to the left first right away and pick up the stone. It's necessary to move to the left first to show the right instruction, which could be confusing.
  • I think you should have a "Reset" functionality which puts you back to the beginning of that part of the level. It's possible to get stuck in the ground if you lift a block and place it on top of yourself by mistake in a certain way.

Other than that I think you did a great job on this game, it's very unique and fun and the mix between the puzzle and platformer really works well.

A very nice little game! I loved the VFX. Your shader work is really good.

Please rate Hurricane Watch!

Developer(+2)

Hi everyone, this is Zeno. I apologize to those who faced issues with the early build. I couldn't do much earlier because I was concerned about the possibility of disqualification.

A big thank you to the Discord mods for helping me and guiding me through the "post-submission process." I also want to thank everyone who reported the bugs and errors they encountered. I know I'm a bit late due to the local time here, but I did my best to fix everything.

Now, hereā€™s the patch fix. I hope you'll have fun with this updated version!

Submitted(+1)

Visuals are splendid but I had some issue with the controls. Overall decent experience, pretty chill platformer

Developer(+1)

Thanks, hyqk! I really appreciate that.

By the way, I also tried your game, and it was kinda fun! Strategy games have never really been my type, but I still loved the concept and the way it was executed. I don't have much to say because the game was a bit hard for me šŸ˜…, but as a fellow game dev, I can definitely say it was very, very polished.

By the way, I fixed my game, so you can give it another shot—you might change your mind!

Submitted(+2)

A pretty simple game. I like the graphics, though — it really creates the atmosphere of calmness.

Developer(+2)

thanks max for compliment . i just chack out your game also .. and it was a solid fun !
the representation of storm was crazy XD
and the fact that in india we called work as a (kam) and in your game we do work (kam) before the Storm
just made me chuckle

btw i fix the game so you can give it one more shot .. you might change your view

Submitted

Thanks! It is really funny about kam:D
Also, I liked your idea of adding double controls using WASD and the mouse. That's cool!

Submitted(+1)

I love the game concept and the art style. I got a little bit confused at first and didn't think I have to avoid the red button haha, very cool and cute menu you made, keep it up!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks, Shinbudukai!

I tried your game too, and it was really cool and cute! Itā€™s short and simple, but it definitely tested my patience XD.
Also, the soundtrack really stood out—itā€™s so good! It would be great if you could drop a link to it in the description.

By the way, Iā€™ve fixed my game, so you should give it another shot—you might change your mind! And yeah, this time you canā€™t skip the red button, haha (evil laugh šŸ˜ˆ).

Submitted(+2)

Hi, hope you had a blast during the jam. I don't think I had the controls figured out but I cheeked my way through level one and got stuck in level 2 in a hole. Retried and got to the end of level 2. Love the box, basic but it was shiny! haha I like shiny haha

Try Tornad.io aswell and leave a comment about what you think about it! :)

Developer

hey ..sorry for that ... but also want to know that can i write  this description  even now ( after the deadline ) ? coz i think its not allowed in jams .

i want to write the controls and some more things but i am afraid of getting issue

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

You can patch the submission. And you should! If the basic of the game doesn't work you can fix that. You shouldn't add features but fixing is ok :)

Developer(+2)

Hey Zmadness,

Thanks for all your help throughout the process!

I just tried out your game, and it was a fun experience. The art style was really unique, the music was groovy, and the starting voice line was scary XD. I didnā€™t find any bugs while playing, but I felt there was a missing objective. I think it would help if you at least mentioned that in the description. Anyway, very nice game!

By the way, I fixed my game, so you can give it another shot—you might change your mind!

Submitted

Added it to the 'To play list' at the top so from this message in 12 to 13 hours you'll see my new comment :D

Submitted (1 edit) (+2)

could use some basic instructions, like main gimmick/controls/objective etc. really nice looking visuals though! thanks for entering!

Edit:

played again after fixes, first time through i didnt realize you could pick up blocks with left click lol, not sure if i missed that in the description or if it was changed later lol. anyways i played it again.

nice visuals/ atmosphere, all of the gameplay was functional, didnt find any bugs. actually really well done physics, thought it would be more buggy given the player clipping in and out of cubes and such. just having movement and being able to click on the screen at the same time was a nice combination since you could kind of change the environment as you went through it.

couple quirks:

-gap between puzzle "solution" and "execution" was quite large, and the execution was sort of uninteresting

-finnicky jump mechanic, not high enough/inputs dont read on ledges occasionally(might be skill issue lol)

- long gap between retry points

-platforming pitfalls/drop downs

The combination of these things made for a somewhat frustrating experience since there was a long execution, then youd reset after the jump mechanic wouldnt work quite right and have to do it all again, or after walking into a pit thinking that was the direction you were supposed to go. especially in the frame of a game jam where theres a lot of things that i want to try. the calm levels seem to have an execution time of at least 30-40 seconds, meaning that if you have to do that and the storm levels 3-4 times, it can take a good 5 minutes just to clear a level.

Nicely made thing overall, its just those little quirks holding it back. The changes id recommend would be to shrink the calm levels by 70%, make the jump go a little higher, and mark the pits a little more clearly, like having spikes instead of bottomless, or a little camera script for the arrow keys to move the camera to look under you. tiny little changes but theyd make a huge difference. thanks for entering, really nice overall!

Developer(+2)

Hey Paper_mint,

I was going to try your game, but I saw that you're having some issues with HTML. You might want to reach out to the Discord mods—theyā€™re usually pretty quick and should be able to help you out. Good luck!

Also, Iā€™ve patched my game after getting permission from the Discord devs, so now all the basic instructions and objectives are in place. Give it another shot—Iā€™m sure youā€™ll change your mind!

Submitted(+1)

awesome, thanks! ill try it again in a sec
