I love the ridiculous concept of a stealth tsunami! xD The art and music is really nice. It's pretty difficult with the short timer and kinda short reaction time for the lifeguard to look back. I beat it in 6-8 tries I think.

Cute game, loved the gameplay and visuals great job :D

Gorgeous looking art!! The transition between the music and storm is so well done. Almost had completed the game but I think I encountered a bug at the end..

As you see, the lifeguard is looking the other side but still got blown away.. almost had completed the game but well luck doesn't have it that way i guess :(

Really good design with good replay value.

Kudos!!

Cute little game! Art is beautiful, sound is design is on point, and the gameplay loop is addicting. Really enjoyed playing this, felt very polished!

Nice art! Did you make the music yourselves? I have not slept enough recently; my reaction times are not up to snuff with this game, haha. Good work.

I really like the art style In this game.  also the audio is great. I also thought the game was very funny. Great Job

laughed maniacly the whole way through, my brain stem is tingling! 10/10

Great game! The theme fits perfectly! It was quite a difficult challenge, which is made difficult by the limits of game time. Mostly I was literally missing 2-3 seconds. The art is amazing and the change of weather is very cool

The game feels great. Best of luck!

Hey, great art and sound! At first, I thought that I am the bigger boat up front, that was confusing. Well done anyway!

I've been seeing your game around here and I figured it was finally time to take a look myself!

Not gonna lie, I didn't pay attention to the screenshots or anything and didn't know what to expect, so when I went in-game and clicked and saw the change for the first time I burst into laugher! The abrupt transition to the hurricane state is just so good (as is all the art in this game) and the mechanics are simple.

The other comments have already covered any of the possible areas of improvement, so I won't really go into that, other than agreeing that the intent focus on the lifeguard takes away from the appreciation of the rest of the scene.

Great job!

Hey if you want to play and rate my silly game, that would be cool!

The main elements - the boat, the lighthouse, and the lifeguard - need to be communicated better.

It's also an unfortunate design flaw that we have to focus so closely on the lifeguard and cannot appreciate the great art of the game

Nice submission otherwise

Total Squid Games vibes! Well done!

I really like the colorful and humorous aesthetic. The premise of lively but unsuspecting vacationers on the beach being encroached by a large tsunami that swiftly hides itself when needed all because a small pink bad-omen boat across the sea is trying to reach to a lighthouse is well executed with the sudden shifts in soundtracks, saturation and value. The solid paint art style also lends itself well to both phases of the game that it's a bit of a shame that there's not enough room for attention on it when playing.

The real criticisms, however, aren't due tot he aesthetic, though, yet they unfortunately dampen the humorous tone of the game significantly. The floating objects in the sea are cute details when engulfed by the tsunami, but the sailing ship does confuse players by being closer and holding a stronger silhouette compared to the pink ship off to the horizon. Perhaps changing it into something else would prevent such confusion. As for the gameplay itself, it is quite unforgiving on either its time constraints or length of the lifeguard watching the sea. Both factors often robbed me from my rounds, and many did not feel like my fault. One or the other could be adjusted to be slightly forgiving, though the increased frequency of the lifeguard checking the sea in the end should be kept for amping up the tension and eventual catharsis.

For the first 5 minutes of playing I thought I was the boat in the foreground LOL I'm such an idiot. Anyway, I enjoyed playing! That lifeguard is a jerk. It was pretty sinister destroying the whole beach lol, I had fun >:)

Took me a couple of trys to understand how to play but after it's kind fun :) Well done, love the visuals

Really liked this game, very nice job! Very clean and simple. Everything looks, sounds and feels great! You made all the visuals and sound of this? That's really awesome! A couple things to improve it (both which are not game breaking and probably should be considered only after the jam) might be:

  • I think it's not clear that you lost because the lifeguard on the right looked at you, something about it maybe doesn't stand out enough for it to be obvious on its own. It looks great by the way, but something about the way the lifeguard moves, doesn't really stand out so much from the rest of the background, which also looks awesome but I guess somehow this combination makes it confusing or something.
    • The instruction in the beginning to "make them meet" might not be enough for it to be obvious. The lifeguard doesn't animate very prominently or do something in particular, instead just some wave shows animating. It looks great, but it might not be clear enough, so it may be hard to notice it without taking a closer look.
      • I also liked the minimal game over screen that had just a restart icon and an exit icon, but because of the lack of the other clarifying indicators, this screen was actually kind of confusing too at first without a closer look.
  • Some runs are just impossible I think, even if timing the start and stop of the storm when trying and even guessing correctly when the transition animations are starting to gain a few more milliseconds, even then I think some runs are actually literally impossible.
    • Maybe to improve it, there shouldn't be impossible runs. I don't consider this in my opinion to be game breaking, so I don't think you should attempt to change it during the jam, or anything else brought up here, I didn't find any game breaking bugs.

I notice the itch.io page doesn't have anything on it in terms of a description. Everyone in jams (even ones where they strictly lock the submission file) can change the contents of the itch.io page whenever they want, and there's no rule against it for this jam, as long as you don't try to change anything in the actual game itself that you uploaded you should be fine.

If you have ideas how to clarify some of these things in the itch.io page description without changing the game itself in any way, it may be helpful to put something there, even now. This may help just in case any players may be similarly confused, but instead of trying to figure it out, simply quit the game. They might even base their rating on their initial impression of the game, such as even that they were not able to figure out how to play it instead of looking closer to see how to do it, but may or may not say so straight out in the comments, or might rate without commenting.

Overall, really nice job on this game!

Really funny game. Though it's super tough and almost made me question whether it's even possible. Loved the audio and graphics.

Visually stunning and the quick shift between calm and storm is hilarious. The game is tough, but super fun once you get the hang of it just needs a better tutorial to explain the goal upfront!

Also try our card game! thx in advance
