Prepare for disaster! You have 5 minutes to safeguard your homes, livestock, and cattle from the impending hurricane!

This is a simulation, time management, strategy game.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
YES! Very happy this time with all of the assets. I did not get time for music, sorry about that.

Great game! but I did find it quite hard to make money.

Good work!

Super nice concept, I enjoyed the strategy side, althought I did not manage to make money and the hurricane never left

Reminded me of Rimworld in some way. A nice game, but I found it hard to tell what exactly was I doing with the game. Not to mention that those cows are quite hard to herd indeed! I had to constantly click them to their position for a very frequent time.

I love making money in games and this was no exception, can tell lots of work was put into this one, great work !

This is pretty fun! I wasn't making any profit though for some reason... I like the cow sprites and it feels very cozy, but it could definitely use some music and sfx

Developer(+1)

I tried replying but it did not go through - I shall try again.

Thank you for playing! In order to get paid, you have to make it to the end of the hurricane round, then you see a printout. It helps to change the speed to 10x!

Fun game

Nice game. Maybe knowing beforehand the path of the huricane would make the game more fun. For example there would be some area with better soil so plants and cows would make more profit there. But it would be in the path of the huricane, so there would be a choice for the player to risk or not.

But I liked building phase and economy in this game.

Nice game. I used Godot too (^U^)

  • Having the barriers cycle back to the beginning would have been good.
  • Once the hurricane arrived, just used money to rebuild damaged barriers.

Nice game.

  • I liked the overall concept of building barriers, herding the cattle into those and defending.
  • Getting the barriers to scroll into the right orientation, particularly along the diagonal was pretty hard. Maybe it’s some mouse scroll sensitivity thing. You could consider having a keyboard shortcut or scroll click to change orientation.
  • Survived one cycle of hurricane.
  • There’s nothing much to do when the hurricane hits, except wait for the next cycle of funds. The speedup helps though.
  • Wasn’t sure what the goal or win condition is.
  • The cows are cute! That they can get distracted along the way is nice :)

Well done overall!

Ahh, a keyboard shortcut to flip through the barrier rotations is a good idea (I think Q/E are pretty common in builder type games). I wish I had thought of that a couple of days ago :)

Thank you for the feedback!

This is very well made for what it's supposed to be! Nice assets and theme implementation. No audio though, but I understand given the time constraints. I had to rush sound effects for my submission as well. Good job on your game!

Very mechanically complex game given the Jam's timeframe. I certainly didn't expect to be playing an RTS submission. I also loved the crunchiness of the sprites, gave me MS paint vibes (I mean that in a very good way. It's cozy) but felt the blurry background took a little away from the cohesion of the aesthetic.

Also my cows were depressed as hell. lol

Well done.

Good game! You managed to get a lot done in the 7 days which you should be proud of. This game would've killed with some sick audio though!

Submitted(+2)

Interesting. I really loved the gameplay. It's super original and on point with the theme.

Tutorial was a bit confusing but eventually after seeing the description I figured it out

I think the idea is good and the graphics work pretty well for a simulation game like this. Strategy games are not really my thing but I still think the concept is cool. Would be nice with some audio though but good work regardless.

Developer

I would have loved to do audio, just ran out of time. Thanks for playing :)

I am a sucker when it comes to strategy game, but I kinda suck lol. I really like the gameplay, the various mechanics really forces you to play strategicvally. Its impressive how you made this whole rts mechanics within week by yourself, superb work!

Submitted(+1)

Cool concept and building mechanic. I think if you added music and sound effects, it would make the game better.

i loved the concept and the builder mechanic, but i didn't really get what was i suposed to do once the hurricane comes and i have no money left, just watching it bounce around. Would love to play again with a more developed tutorial tho!

Developer

I ran out of time, but I wish I could put in some tooltips to explain. Basically if you build barriers in the proper way around your houses and crops, you can protect them when the hurricane comes. Then after the round is over, you can get more money to rebuild, feed your cows, plant crops, etc.

Thanks for playing!

Yeah, i think i protected my houses and crops, but when the hurricane came it just bounce of the barriers for a while... how long should it take for the next round to start?

Developer

It usually lasts a few minutes, but putting it on 10x speed really helps. Then it's like 30 seconds or so.

great idea and good execution, but i think it would benefit from having a textBox appear when you hover over certain things (to label them), and i also had some trouble figuring out how to place different types of wall. other than that i really liked it tho

Developer

Yeah I wish I had more time to implement that! A couple people have mentioned that tooltips would be a big helper. Thanks for playing!

Good Idea, and a very interesting approach to the mechanics of the storm. Just wish there was a little bit more feedback especially when guiding the cows.

Would love to have your feedback on my game https://todryn.itch.io/battleground-commander
