Cute little puzzle game where the graphics revert over time. Had fun playing and finishing all of the levels!
Would like to see where this one ends up after the jam!

In what way does your game fit the theme?
It shows the evolution of game graphics, but backwards.
Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote the code, but my partner Wolfexx_Original drew the art

Very fun game! The audio was super creepy and fit the game style perfectly. It looks like you can't move diagonally by holding up and right at the same time which would be nice. Maybe the enemies could also take random paths to make it more challenging. Some background music would have been nice too. Nice work though! Check out my game when you have a chance. Thanks!
Interesting game, I like the audio a lot, it really gives of a creepy vibe. I'm not sure if the game fits the theme, but I like the idea of changing graphics.
I do have some feedback for you:
- Don't reset the whole game when the player touches an enemy. Give the player hp or reset the current level. It's way too punishing at the moment.
- In level 7 I spawned and before I could process what was hapening I died, becuase an enemy walked into me.
- Make the enemy hitboxes smaller.
- The player can sometimes not move in a direction. I suspect that you can only move while centered on a tile.
- I think a top down perspective would work better for this game.
I hope this feedback will help you with improving the game, good luck!
As many here, I had to read the description to understand how it fitted the theme.
It's a good idea but it wasn't visually striking so I personally didn't notice it. But I think the main problem is that you didn't choose between grid movement and free movement. It looks like grid movement because of floor tiles and not being able to move diagonally but actually it is not (I had to go back and check when writing this because I actually thought it was...). Because of this, the collision boxes are really weird and you end getting stuck somewhere instants before a monster gets you.
I'm really sorry, but having to start over every time I get hit by something is just what makes me not wanting to play the game at all. I really had to force my self not to quit after 2 deaths, got to around I think level 5 or 6, and just quit after getting KO'd twice by unforgiving hitbox of the red monster with wings. If you're going for the grid-based look, maybe make the hitboxes of everything grid-like too, even if you want some characters to be larger, make them larger by the grid not like 1,5 of a block or something like that. I personally didin't like that my Character was 2 blocks or maybe even a little more, but that can be attributed to just preference.
And one more pretty brutal hit from me, so I'm really sorry, don't want to attack or discourage anyone but... If you want to go with graphics changing back to how they used to be, maybe it would be better to start with more up to date graphics. I didn't notice any change in my playthroughs until I checked it in the "in what way does your game fit the theme?".
I really liked the music, together with the visuals of the monsters it gave a pretty creepy vibe, so if you would make a horror game with those assets, that would probably work wonders.
Consider making the game much, much more forgiving next time, especially for a Game Jam, people are going to stop playing really fast when you punish them so hard.
Anyways, good luck in both this and any future projects.
I pretty much agree with everyone else: The collision is weird and the game just start you maybe 3 level back or something like that.
I really liked the art though and I think the idea that the graphics slowly devolve is cool.
Yo’ Templar here,
There some issues about the game that makes it very difficult to play, but the idea of the graphics downgrading can be interesting if done correctly and if it affects gameplay in some way, otherwise there’s no much to it.
What I can point out would be:
Nice idea and interesting art. Though the movement and having to restart from the beginning when ever you die gets frustrating. Other than that, good game!
Its a little bit frustrating that you can't move diagonally. Got me killed many times. Cool art and interpretation of the theme though. It was also pretty difficult, especially because you have to restart every time you die. Overall, pretty cool game!
Game is fun to play, I would love if the character could move diagonally and also if after dying i can go back to the level i was instead of starting over, but other than those two I really like the idea. I like the simplicity of the level and enemies. Love getting keys and absolutely love the character going back in time haha. Thanks for making it.
Amazing Idea! I kinda hate how i can't walk north-east or north-west etc.. sometimes i would go to the ending spot with the key collected and it wouldn't register, easy bug to fix, also, u made the game in levels, so it should save what level u r on, not go back to level 1, and menu needs some other buttons and be more visually appealing
The idea here is cool, but there a couple of small things you might want to rethink. The bigget thing is that the game is super punishing- getting hit once means you have to restart the whole thing, which gets super frustrating. It's especially frustrating in one level- the first one where it gets all green- because right after you spawn in an enemy will immediately touch you and kill you if you didn't know he was already there. Having something that's pretty unreasonable to react to end all your progress immediately can be a bit much. I'd also recommend you make the collider and hit detection for the player a little smaller, since it's a bit wide at the moment. Still, cool idea.
Hi, the ideas is nice, you can give more lives.. if you are hit ones you have to restart all over..
My game is a casual game if you wanna rate is https://misterm.itch.io/mixtape-match , Thanks
Interesting idea. Kinda got the vibes of an old school NES game called the Soloman's Key.
Nice game, I like that kind of puzzles, I also chosen mechanics in my game.
The only suggestion, as soon as you have dying feature, it would be great to add the ability to restart the game from the level where you've lost.
